McG Looking To Direct R.I.P.D.

McG Looking To Direct R.I.P.D.

The latest comic book movie to star Ryan Reynolds may have found its' director. The bigger question is whether the movie's studio will wait for him.

Pajiba is reporting that director, McG (Terminator Salvation) is looking to direct the comic book adaptation R.I.P.D. (aka Rest in Peace Department) after he shoots the romantic comedy This Means War.

The Dark Horse graphic novel is about two cops, one recently dead and a gunslinger who’s been dead for hundreds of years who work on the Rest in Peace department - which is the police department of the dead. Nick Cruz was murdered by an unknown assailant, at the height of his personal and professional life. Now he's traded a hundred years of service to the R.I.P.D. in exchange for a shot at finding who killed him. Unfortunately his search will take him to Hell and back -- literally!

Ryan Reynolds is already confirmed for the recently deceased officer and Pajiba also states that Zach Galifianakis was as at one point on Universal’s wish list for the other lead. One of the comic book's strengths is the relationship between the two leads and strikes a balance between comedic and dark tones throughout.

The LA Times is reporting that Universal wants to fast track this movie and may not wait for McG's schedule to open up. Since Reynolds is looking to shoot the comedy The Change-Up and then Deadpool, the star and director's schedules might end up working toward the same timing.

@gambitfreak - Taken care of. Not sure what that was @poster but it was messing up the html of the site.

This is a pretty cool premise for a movie. Universal needs to get things dialed in as Reynolds schedule just seems to get tighter and tighter.

I can see Reynolds in that......he has the hair
starscream4president - 8/5/2010, 10:20 PM
@Poster. GTFO MOFO!!!!!!
This is one good concept for both a comic and a movie. let's see how it woks.
Ryguy88 - 8/5/2010, 10:28 PM
Does this mean that Terminator 5 will not be happening anytime soon?
Checkmate - 8/5/2010, 10:36 PM
Gee, Ryan's pretty busy; R.I.P.D., The Change-Up, Deadpool, and back to back Green Lanterns? He may have to drop something.
Magicfingers - 8/6/2010, 12:03 AM
@NegativeMan- Yeah, like ScarJo. HAHAHAHA
j/k You'd have to be gay or retarded to do something that stupid.
TheGambitFreak - 8/6/2010, 12:09 AM
DOW@ sorry but is their a way we can kick someone off the site? @poster is everywhere!!!!
DogsOfWar - 8/6/2010, 12:22 AM
@gambitfreak - The funny thing is he's not even doing it right! He hasn't properly set up a link to some blog that looks like word perfect document.

The best thing to do with the kid in the corner of the playground eating his own boogers is to just leave him alone.

@poster - I would recommend not trying to link to some place else on every comment. Its just bad form and won't be tolerated.
TheGambitFreak - 8/6/2010, 12:32 AM
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! @DOW!!!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On the movie, they should make it like the comic, like they did in Scott Pilgrim
The whole POW, Bang, thing and like for the characters show the dark inked lines on them you know, the shadowed splotches, always wanted to do that.
NERO - 8/6/2010, 12:49 AM
wow, yay... yeah, hearing the name McG attached to anything makes me about as excited as Ratner being attached to something. At least McG has a visual sense to his films beyond the Ratner, "Hey, you stand over there and look awesome!" approach. God, that man is the epitome of douche.
moonwaltz - 8/6/2010, 1:29 AM
mcg should just stay away from franchises and comic properties.
plan99fromouterspace - 8/6/2010, 1:41 AM
@moonwaltz @NERO agree 1000%. Can't believe there are people on this site that actually want him to make T5.
marvel72 - 8/6/2010, 2:04 AM
will we even see a deadpool movie ? not if ryan reynolds gonna film two more green lanterns back to back & now this r.i.p.d .
TheGambitFreak - 8/6/2010, 2:55 AM
@Deadpool72 yes but first he's gotta do the Change-Up, Then Deadpool, that is if Rodriguez is smart enough to direct!!!! R Rated please!
Deadpool says "Drugs are Bad."

deadpool watches heroes
And I want the little yellow boxes, big role in Deadpool, lol
Shaman - 8/6/2010, 5:05 AM
Nero- Actually, although i agree with you about Ratner, he's still ten times the director that Gavin Hood is! I feel McG and Ratner are close to be on the same level... somewhat.
LEEE777 - 8/6/2010, 6:09 AM
This is a JOKE right??????

RYAN [frick]ing REYNOLDS???????????????????????

HELL NO lol, he should keep to all the cbm's his got now, really want a R.I.P.D movie but [frick] no to him ever being in it!

[frick] you HOLLYWOOD lol, [frick] you Sirs! : D

ElBicho - 8/6/2010, 6:48 AM
That settles it... MATTHEW LILLARD for DEAPOOL!

Reynolds can play every cbm role he wants, I hear he's even slotted to play Jughead in the Archie movie. If he can't make time for The Merc, than frack him.
W4RDude87 - 8/6/2010, 9:09 AM
WTF? why is Ryan Reynolds after every freaking comic book character?, someone should really knock some sense into that dude, he wasn't even a good Deadpool IMO.Im so sick and tired of this Reynolds BS!, **** YOU! HOLLYWOOD! there are aplanty of other actors that are well suited to be a leading man.
Shaman - 8/6/2010, 9:49 AM
MATTHEW LILLARD is the epitome of horrible overactors the industry has to offer. If he's ever Deadpool, that's money staying in the bank for me.
UncleDrew - 8/6/2010, 5:26 PM
Yeah...hell no to Matt Lillard!!! Ryan Reynolds will do this movie.
droopy1317 - 8/6/2010, 5:53 PM
LMAO @leee. great poster man lol. man we havent seen an article on this in a long time
orod510 - 8/7/2010, 2:49 PM
This is a good comic, fast read pretty simple i don;t know about galifinakis for the role of the cowboy i would want someone older more serious/intimidating, maybe dennis quaid or kurt russell
orod510 - 8/7/2010, 2:52 PM
Also i'm sorry to say this but Ryan Reynolds will never play deadpool again. He's too freakin in demand right now. He has a crap load of movies plus Green Lantern might film their sequels back to back.

So he pretty much screwed over Deadpool fans by doing Green Lantern
