EXCLUSIVE: Alternate Rhino Designs For THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

Conceptual illustrator, Robert Simons ("Ender's Game"), has updated his website with designs for the Rhino costume that Paul Giamatti's character Aleksei Sytsevich is seen wearing in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Come check them out!

Conceptual illustrator, Robert Simons ("The Thing"), has given us the first look at early Rhino concept designs for Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He sketched out various designs, that included four-legged and two-legged designs, as well as various helmet designs. The final look of Rhino is a combination of the various designs that you will see below. You can view more of Robert's artwork at his official website, robertdraws.com.

I also encourage you to check out the teaser trailer for Momentum (view below), which is another project that Robert Simons is working on. Momentum is a short film that was successfully funded by a Kickstarter campaign. It is currently in post-production. Robert Simons and his partner Peggy Chung at Gadget-Bot, along with Mark Yang developed a hover racing film set in the future. To round out their team they brought in Michael Chance to direct and Anna Halberg to develop the production team. For more information visit MOMENTUMRALLY.com.

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead. It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp...

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be directed by Marc Webb from a script written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner and James Vanderbilt. The film will star Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Sally Field as Aunt May, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, Jamie Foxx is Electro and Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn. The Amazing Spider-Man sequel will swing into theaters May 2, 2014.

Some of these designs look like something out of Iron Man and Transformers.
Klone - 5/3/2014, 11:08 AM
I prefer this:

Awesome, awesome find nail!

But honestly, there's just no way to make a mechanized Rhino suit look cool or even good. It didn't help that the trailers gave away all of Rhino's scenes...even the ending shot of the entire freaking movie! Sony did the same thing with the first one...they have no idea how to market a movie.
KarolosPrime - 5/3/2014, 11:30 AM
Weird designs!!?
Null - 5/3/2014, 11:33 AM
Rhino's design used in the movie was crap!
grif - 5/3/2014, 11:33 AM
the whole problem with the design is that they tried to make him look like an actual rhino with 4 legs.
charlie2094 - 5/3/2014, 11:33 AM
Great find!

Those top standing designs look almost exactly like the Ultimate Rhino , those would've been perfect! Hopefully he gets a redesign for his Sinister Six appearane, even though I did honestly like what they went with.
SuperCat - 5/3/2014, 11:34 AM
"Rhinobot, transform!!!"
Zickafoose - 5/3/2014, 11:34 AM
I hope if they bring him back for ASM3 they change it up a bit. I mean the one they chose looks like a prototype doesn't it?
charlie2094 - 5/3/2014, 11:35 AM

Exactly what I was thinking, same with the Goblins suit, neither one looked finished. Reckon they'll both get updated for TASM3/Sinister Six
ThrotTheUnclean - 5/3/2014, 11:36 AM
Some of these are at least an improvement... I just don't get why they felt they had to go the "mech" route. They have a dude shooting electricity from his body and two dudes with a goblin disease. Why the felt a dude with super human strength would not work is beyond me. I was happy this movie was introducing us to some villains we have not seen before, but the finished products made me wish that hadn't.

They finally figured out people wanted a version of Spider-Man as close to the comics as possible. I just don't know why they didn't have that same understanding when making the villains.
Platinum - 5/3/2014, 11:37 AM
They finally brought Rhinox to the big screen!

Abary - 5/3/2014, 11:37 AM
Looks like they never did have the right design in mind at any point...
charlie2094 - 5/3/2014, 11:40 AM
The top designs are a lot like the Ultimate Rhino, sure he'll get an upgrade for sure, suit looked unfinished.

Goji54 - 5/3/2014, 11:42 AM
Funny how when you're afraid to admit you don't like a design, you can just say "oh I'm sure it'll evolve later on" and get away with it.
Bearjew - 5/3/2014, 11:43 AM
[frick] this movie! Any Marvel movie outside of the MCU is bullshit now! Except X-Men cause those movies have usually been great. [foo foo]s
UlisesMX - 5/3/2014, 11:44 AM
I love the liquid metal concepts
charlie2094 - 5/3/2014, 11:46 AM

Or because you don't mind either way? I really liked the Rhino design, but if it changes then ever better, definitely looked unfinished
typicalfanboy - 5/3/2014, 11:48 AM
Trolling ain't easy
UltimateHunt - 5/3/2014, 11:48 AM
eh? all are the same for me.
not good, not bad
HAILHYDRA - 5/3/2014, 11:50 AM
Any of these would've been better.
EnSabahNurD - 5/3/2014, 11:51 AM
OMG almost any of these designs look infinitely better than what they went with for Rhino! What the hell are they thinking when it comes to the villain designs? They finally got Spider-man's costume near perfect and dropped the ball on absolutely everything else it seems.
MarvelWeiner - 5/3/2014, 11:52 AM
Why the [frick] does he need to transform into an actual rhino? lol this is what happens when people take thing so literally.
KINGPEN266 - 5/3/2014, 11:52 AM
TheRationalNerd - 5/3/2014, 11:53 AM

I totally agree! I actually dig that look.
TheRationalNerd - 5/3/2014, 11:54 AM

I hope they use that as an upgrade for TASM3 or Sinister6
HelloAlien - 5/3/2014, 11:55 AM
Could have just showed his suit in the movie but his scene were good some of these look awesome
MarvelWeiner - 5/3/2014, 11:56 AM
Wouldn't his head look tiny as hell if he had the same design in the movie as in the first pic?

Indy - 5/3/2014, 12:00 PM
I didn't like rhino in movie or care for these designs do something like this pic I be ok but not transform in to a rhino.
breakUbatman - 5/3/2014, 12:02 PM
Alternate designs, why not have him just in a suit and have him plow through things like Blonsky or Igor /Mark 38?

You have the fancy Vulture wings which make sense for flight, the Ock tentacles which make sense for increased dexterity then you have that crappy Rhino suit which looks like it was made in a cave by Justin Hammer.

All this dumb suff, Stan and the boys knew what they were doing back in the day. There's no need to not make Peter a wrestler or turn Rhino into War Machine.

Oscorp where stupidity runs rampant
Bodwulf - 5/3/2014, 12:03 PM
"A bike messenger knocked me down."
AlexanderLykins - 5/3/2014, 12:04 PM
Not suprised. There were better designs but they weren't used.
sjoerdo0 - 5/3/2014, 12:05 PM
ComicsBornAndBred - 5/3/2014, 12:08 PM
I like the mech suit when he's standing. Why didn't they use that? I'm sure hell get an upgrade for the next film and sinister six
Platinum - 5/3/2014, 12:10 PM
In the comics and basically any other spider media it makes sense why they would want Aleksei as an ally, his hulkish strength and his enhanced abilities make up for his lack of intelligence but in this movie he's just a bumbling moron who "fought" spider-man once. His inclusion to the Sinister Six is beyond stupid.

It's strange how he's barely in the movie and they still [frick]ed him up.
MarvelWeiner - 5/3/2014, 12:13 PM
Am I the only one who doesn't care about rhino as character?
LTR - 5/3/2014, 12:20 PM
I like a lot of these, particularly the earlier ones. I didn't mind te design used, though I'd of preferred the Rhino design to be more clear. I like the concept of him being a war machine while standing, but transformed into a rhino for transport protection.
Jhuntdaprodigy - 5/3/2014, 12:25 PM
I didn't like Rhino in this film at all. Giamatti was way over-the-top with the character, his russian accent was terrible and his dialogue literally sounded as if Marc Webb just told him to blurt out random taunts at Spider-Man and act like he was retarded. As for the suit, it was a clunky hideous mess honestly. If they had went something more along the lines of Ultimate Rhino or how Rhino looked in the first film's game, then he would've looked alright. I hope they drastically update his appearance and make his character way less over-the-top cartoonish and idiotic in the next film.
AsgardianHobo - 5/3/2014, 12:26 PM
Beast Wars! Forgot about that show
