A few months ago, J.K. Simmons expressed his wish on exploring the character again in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Obviously, his amazing portrayal of the character in Raimi's Spider-Man was one of the trilogy's highlights. Apparently, Marc Webb enjoyed J.K.'s screen presence as much as fans did. In a recent interview with The Huffington Post, Webb refused to rule out bringing back J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson. While asked if there's any possibility on bringing back Simmons back as J.J, he said:
That's an interesting idea. My mom is from Montana ... I used to see him on stage [there]. I've never met him, but I think ... it's tricky, because it's a different universe. But, you never know.
Webb also shared his thoughts on directing Star Wars sequel:
Spider-Man is my big movie. You know? "Star Wars," I'm actually pretty interested in how they'll invent that. But, what it is, it's an interesting cultural comment. Because I think people are interested in this universe and they are interested in these different versions of it. There are ways that you can re-inflect iconic characters and re-attribute them like they have done in comics and like they've done in movies. I mean, how many versions of "Les Miserables" are there? They are always doing different and interesting adaptations of preexisting material. And I find that it can be appealing, if it's done well.
Actors playing the same characters in different versions of various Hollywood flicks happened before. Judi Dench portrayed "M" in various James Bond incarnations, being Pierce Brosnan's and Daniel Craig's headmaster in various films. So, could we see J.K. Simmons once again in a Spider-Man movie?
The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Directed by Marc Webb, with Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield, Shailene Woodley, Jamie Foxx, hits the screen on May 2 2014.
