BOX OFFICE: Latest SUICIDE SQUAD Tracking Points To A Lower, But Still Huge, $115 Million Debut

While previous opening weekend estimates pointed to Suicide Squad debuting with a massive $125 million, the latest tracking data indicates that it will have a lower, but still record breaking, haul.

You might think that Suicide Squad opening to $115 million instead of $125 million is bad news, but tracking in notoriously unreliable, and the movie could go considerably higher or lower depending on how things play out over the next couple of weeks. Some analysts believe a debut of $120+ million is doable, but either way, the DC Comics adaptation should easily beat the August record currently held by James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. That made an impressive $94.3 million back in 2014.

Suicide Squad also looks set to become the first August release to top $100 million at the North American box office, and that's an impressive feat for a movie featuring mostly unknown and obscure characters. The big screen debut of Task Force X won't top the likes of Captain America: Civil War ($179 million), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ($166 million), or even Deadpool ($132.4 million), but should the reviews prove to be positive enough, chances are it could easily exceed expectations.

How much do you think Suicide Squad will make during its opening weekend? Sound off below.
