I like this concept especially with Russel Crowe as the devil.
Could’ve trolled the Mephisto crowd real good with this one.

I really like the prospect of Blade, Moon Knight, Jack the werewolf, Black Knight, etc... confronting a devious Mephisto initiated plot. Introduce ghost rider in that movie

Aren't Hel and Hell two different things?
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 7/20/2022, 11:30 AM
@AC1 - Yes. I mean...kinda? My understanding is they are two different versions of the same thing.

Hel being the Nordic place bad people go when they die. Hell being the Christian place people go when they die?

So, in real life, I guess it depends on what religion you believe that determines which place is the real place.

In a world like comics and the MCU, where multiple realms exist, I would imagine Hel and Hell are two different places.

I mean, even Mephisto isn't considered the actual devil anymore in the comics, even though that was the original idea. But now he's just a ruler of another hellish-like realm, and not actually Satan himself.

Something similar to Belasco being a demonic looking being that rules over Limbo.
AC1
AC1 - 7/20/2022, 12:12 PM
@CorndogBurglar - I thought Nordic Hel was more of a neutral place akin to purgatory or just a generic realm of the dead (whereas Valhalla is reserved specifically for warriors who died in battle while fighting in Odin's name) but there do seem to be a lot of contradictory interpretations online so it's kinda hard to get a definitive answer.

I did however find out while trying to research it earlier that early European Christians may have co-opted the name Hel when translating the Bible (in older languages Hell would've been known by other names) and that they may have done that to create a negative connotation towards the Norse Religion, basically telling them their afterlife is actually eternal damnation and that they should convert to save themselves.

Again, don't know if there's any truth to that but it's a fascinating theory.

bkmeijer1 - 7/20/2022, 2:51 PM
@AC1 - if Tawaret's claims in Moon Knight are anything to go by, they are different places I guess.

And (in the eyes of the Christians) paganistic stuff was often rolled into some Catholic stuff to get them to convert. Guess you could be right by the Hel/Hell thing.

"...we also can't discount the fact that introducing a comedic take on the Biblical Satan (as it doesn't appear Crowe was going to play Mephisto) would not have gone down well in America."
- Is this suggesting that this would've gone down well in OTHER countries? If so, which ones and why?
Just a strange comment imo.

While religious beliefs tend to be somewhat regional historically, they do not start and end at imaginary territorial boundries. And to suggest that the concept of "Satan" is something unique to America or even Christianity is ridiculous also, as the concept of a devil ruling the underworld exists in many mainstream relgions spread out over the earth.

There are tons of people all over the world that believe in these concepts and it is in no way exclusive to "America". People will always whine and complain about everything, but the last I checked, we don't murder and stone people to death for apostasy or blasphemy in this country anymore, unlike many other areas in the world.

Oh so “terrifying” 🙄. More buzzwords in a Josh article… of course there is.

Also, what makes this bloke think that a comedic devil appearance “wouldn’t have gone down well in America”? Like we don’t have plenty of movies with a devils… man this dude is always theorizing with the weirdest logic

The fact that this was even considered makes me wonder what kind of plans they have for Mephisto, if they have any to begin with.

@Fares -
They have no plans, for anything.

Thor L&T killed Zeus. Post-credit scene was added by Marvel later without the directors having any clue about the post-credit scene and those who worked on the post-credits having no idea Zeus being dead.

The bolt goes through his chest leaving a hole that goes all the way through his chest. Zeus is shocked, tries to breathe and cannot proceeding to give a death rattle. He proceeds to fall forward and falls off his platform which is floating over 100ft in the air. As he falls his body shifts so he's falling head first.

• The writer of Thor 4, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, revealed the post-credit scene was not part of the script.
• The scene is treated as the death of Zeus narrative with characters in-movie discussing how it may result in them being chased across the galaxy
• Taika has confirmed he had no idea that a Thor 5 was being made, meaning anything teased is not confirmed to be followed up on in future.

It seems to me the movie killed him off, acknowledged his death and then was going to follow up on the aforementioned revenge of the gods by teasing Hercules - but whoever filmed the post-credit scene included Zeus for some dumb reason.

Zeus being alive actively limits the story because Zeus is in charge of the gods and keeps them in check, if he died then you could tell a lot of stories with the gods doing whatever they want and play with the concept of a few of them hunting down Thor... instead it's just Hercules for Thor 5 and Zeus for Thor 6 I guess.

Zeus was pathetic. He died and the only reason he's in the post-credits was that those who worked on the post-credits did not discuss anything with the people who made the movie.

@supermanrex -
The bolt went completely through his chest, he couldn't breathe and then proceeded to fall 100ft+ and land head first off-screen. The scene, via every character involved, is played as a death scene. Later the characters discuss how Zeus being dead means they'll be chased throughout the universe.

The post-credit scene seems to ignore this because they want to set-up Hercules for Thor 5 tease and Zeus presumably to return as the big bad of Thor 6 so they can have Thor fighting a mentor figure who also knew his father. You could also have Thor presumably become King of the Gods taking Zeus' place as opposed to just 'King Of Asgard'
