Wolverine Appreciation Month Produces "Classic" X-Artwork

In honor of Wolverine's 35th anniversary, Marvel is announcing that April will be "Wolverine Art Appreciation Month." As part of the celebration, Marvel says it's giving Comic Riffs exclusive "first look" at the character images, and so we pass along this sneak-peek to you.
Various Marvel titles will debut the new art, which includes images "invoking" Picasso, Dali and Van Gogh, among other all-timers. Says Quesada in a statement: Wolverine is "not just popular with fans but also with artists. ... This got us thinking: What if Wolverine had been around for hundreds, if not thousands, of years? What great, classic artists would want a crack at drawing a Wolverine cover?"

Wolverine, as inspired by Vincent van Gogh.

In the style of Edward Gorey.

And of course, the film "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," starring Jackman, is due out in May...

I have to say a little about Salvador Dali's picture look off to the far right at the mountians how it almost looks like admantium being poured. Or how the ice is covering the land it could be the metal covering his bones, and then to top it all off with the maple leaf, I would buy this. And hang it in my house
bodykount80 - 3/18/2009, 9:12 PM
its a tossup between Rene Magritte and Salvador Dali for me. But great job to all of them. they're great.

These are incredible. The C.M. Coolidge tribute is my favorite. It is very well done. And Dali's surealism is always entertaining. On a side note I did a report on violence in the media for a psych class and one of the examples I cited was a serial killer in Europe who mutilated hisvictims in tribute to Salvador Dali's artistic style.
TheMyth - 3/19/2009, 8:38 AM

dogchasingcars - 3/20/2009, 11:27 AM
These are really awesome. I did something similar for the Watchmen fanart contest before realising the submissions had to be drawings: http://s646.photobucket.com/albums/uu186/sniffy_hilltop/?action=view¤t=ror1.png

(sorry for the complete lack of photoshop quality -- as I lack photoshop and gimp had stopped working pretty much all I could do was copy, paste, and resize...)
