Marvel Studios is assembling an impressive cast for its upcoming X-Men reboot, though that's hardly surprising. After all, these actors will have to play these characters for a long time, especially as the MCU pivots to focus on mutants in its next Saga.
That means X-Men needs to be a box office success, as Marvel Studios can't afford for it to be another Eternals (had things gone to plan with that movie, those heroes could have been as important to the MCU as the Avengers).
One of the most exciting additions to the cast is Obsession star, Inde Navarrette. Coming off the success of that horror phenomenon, the Superman & Lois alum likely had her pick of projects, but Rogue sounds like something of a dream role for the rising star.
Talking about X-Men at the Newport Beach Film Festival, Navarrette said, "I am just so excited to be part of that world, and it's an honour to play Rogue. I'm a really big fan."
Asked if she's spoken with the original Rogue, Anna Paquin, the actress replied, "Oh, I feel like the correspondence started when I was younger, when I really fell in love with the X-Men movies in the first place. I just feel like she did such a good job, and I really loved those movies growing up. I'm really honoured to put forward this next moment."
"I've always wanted to take part in that sort of thing," Navarrette added, referring to the stunt training required for Anna Marie. "I think it's also a really good excuse to get in the gym. I'm the laziest person, and I am very excited to get up and moving and moving my body. It's a beautiful project."
As of now, we know nothing about what version of Rogue we'll see in X-Men. Like her comic book counterpart, she could start as an antagonist in this movie, especially as it looks like we're initially getting the original "first class" of five X-Men.
Directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), the untitled X-Men movie stars Kit Connor (Heartstopper) as Scott Summers, Sadie Sink (Spider-Man: Brand New Day) as Jean Grey, Inde Navarrette (Obsession) as Rogue, Asa Germann (Gen V) as Angel, Maya Boyd (& Juliet) as Storm, and Christopher Abbott (Catch-22) as Professor Charles Xavier.
Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) also stars as Emma Frost, alongside Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), who plays Nathaniel Milbury, an alias of Mister Sinister in the comics. There are also rumours that Marvel Studios will introduce Apocalypse as the next Saga's big bad.
X-Men will be released exclusively in theaters May 5, 2028.
