New York Comic-Con 2018: Here Are All The Biggest Reveals And Newsworthy Moments From The Event

Another New York Comic-Con is in the books, so we're recapping all the biggest stories from the past few days, including many which haven't been covered on the site revolving around both Marvel and DC...

While many studios choose to give the San Diego Comic-Con a miss these days, it's still the most must-see show of the year for comic book fans. However, the profile of the New York Comic-Con continues to rise and this year actually delivered some of its best surprises and huge pieces of breaking news to date regarding everything from comic books to movies, TV shows, and a whole lot more besides.

We covered as much as possible here on CBM over the past few days but many big stories inevitably flew under the radar and others were no doubt lost in the shuffle. That's why we've now brought them all together for an epic recap covering the new trailers which were revealed along with comic books being launched by Marvel and DC Comics over the coming months which are sure to get you excited.

The Full DC Universe Original Programming Schedule

There's a lot of excitement surrounding the DC Universe app and during Comic-Con, Warner Bros. released a full schedule for the original programming which is coming to the service. As you can see, the plan is to keep updating it every few months with new shows and we won't have long to wait between each of them. A New Black Widow Comic Book Series

During the Women of Marvel panel, it was revealed that writers Jen and Sylvia Soska and artist Flaviano are launching a new Black Widow series which is set to launch next year (presumably in time for an official announcement about the movie starring Scarlett Johansson). The Soska sisters are best known for directing horror movies but they have some comic book writing experience as well.

Bullseye Is Coming To Daredevil Season 3

We suspected that this would be the case but a very cool teaser released by Marvel and Netflix that the Man Without Fear is indeed going to clash with Bullseye during Daredevil season three. It appears as if the show will put the spotlight on the villain's origin story as an FBI agent who uses lethal methods and is later recruited by The Kingpin. An Epic Five-Minute Preview Of Aquaman

Warner Bros. surprised everyone by stealing the show at this year's New York Comic-Con with the release of a blistering five-minute preview for Aquaman. Originally released during this year's San Diego Comic-Con, fans have been raving about this trailer/sneak peek and that final shot of Jason Momoa in the classic comic costume is frankly amazing. Batman Is Finally Coming To Gotham

Season five of Gotham will be its last and a number of huge reveals were dropped at Comic-Con along with the trailer you see above. Bane is indeed coming to the show, while pretty much every rogue from previous seasons will be making an appearance. The finale, meanwhile, is set to take place ten years into the future and will feature an older Bruce Wayne finally suited up as Batman to fight crime.

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Is Returning

Marvel Comics announced during the event that a new Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man series is in the works from writer Tom Taylor and artist Juann Cabal. Apparently, the plan is for the comic to focus on a more personal aspect of the wall-crawler's adventures, something J. Michael Straczynski's Amazing Spider-Man series did a number of years ago. It will launch next January so stay tuned.

A Major New Addition To Runaways Season 2

There weren't a lot of Marvel TV reveals at this year's New York Comic-Con but we did learn that newcomer Jan Luis Castellanos will be taking on the role of Topher in Runaways season two. In the comic books, he's actually a [SPOILER WARNING] villain who infiltrates the team and reveals himself to be a vampire. That might be a tad far-fetched for this grounded series but time will obviously tell.

A First Look At DC Universe's Harley Quinn

At the New York Comic-Con, it was confirmed that The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco will be voicing Harley Quinn in the DC Universe animated series. Aimed at an adult audience, the sneak peek above points to this basically being DC's version of that Deadpool show which was supposed to launch on FX and it definitely has some potential. It is, however, a shame Margot Robbie won't voice the villain.

15 Minutes Of Footage From Dark Phoenix

Fox brought Dark Phoenix to the New York Comic-Con and treated fans to a whopping 15 minutes of footage (those reshoots clearly aren't going to have an impact on the movie's opening). Featuring an exciting rescue sequence as the X-Men head into space, the moment Jean "meets" the Phoenix Force was revealed and it sounds like Simon Kinberg is sticking to the comics. Deathstroke Is Coming To Titans Season 2

During the DC Universe panel at the New York Comic-Con, Geoff Johns confirmed that we'll see both Deathstroke and his son Jericho in the second season of Titans. He mentioned that we'll be getting a new take on Slade Wilson in the series and that means neither Manu Bennett nor Joe Manganiello will be taking on the role of the fan-favourite assassin. Chances are it will adapt "The Judas Contract."

Spock Gets A Beard For Star Trek: Discovery Season 2

A first look at Star Trek: Discovery was revealed at the event and as well as providing a first look at Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and Number One (Rebecca Romijn), we get to see Ethan Peck's take on the iconic Mr. Spock. However, fans were shocked to see him rocking a beard and speculation is going into overdrive that this could be a Mirror Universe version of the character. So, evil Spock then!

An Amazing New Look At Hellboy

Despite speculation that we would get the first trailer for Hellboy during the event, the panel only delivered your typical Q&A and some footage which has been praised by those who got to check it out (you can read a description by clicking here). On the plus side, though, we did get this stunning new banner providing a look at both several characters and even some of the monstrous creatures.

The Flash: Year One Is Set For Release In 2019

Now that DC Comics is once again embracing the past, a new series is set to launch next year which will delve into Barry Allen's first year as The Flash. Written by Joshua Williamson and artist Howard Porter, the series will delve into how the Scarlet Speedster worked through the tragedy of his mother's death and father's arrest all while becoming a superhero in Central City. The series sounds fun, right?

The First Trailer For American Gods Season 2

There's been a lot of behind the scenes turmoil with American Gods but the first teaser trailer for season two certainly doesn't point to that having had a significant impact on the Starz series. The action picks up hours after Mr. Wednesday revealed himself as Odin to Shadow Moon and it appears as if this adaptation will definitely follow Neil Gaiman's beloved novel if this first look is any indication.

Titans' Version Of Batman Is A Murderer

In news which is bound to upset comic book fans, Titans star Brenton Thwaites confirmed that the reason Robin decides to no longer fight by Batman's side in that universe is because he's become a ruthless killer who started training Dick Grayson to also dole out lethal justice. It's like Warner Bros. learned nothing from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Find his comments in full by clicking here.

Batman: Three Jokers Revealed

It was revealed during the event that the three Jokers we'll see in this series from Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok will focus on the Joker from 1940, the classic Silver Age version, and a Joker inspired by Brian Bolland's Killing Joke villain. As a result, the plan is for the comic to focus on Batman, Red Hood, and Batgirl, the three characters who have arguably had their lives most impacted by the villain.

Titans Renewed For A Second Season

We haven't even seen the first season of Titans yet but Warner Bros. is clearly confident in the chances of this DC Universe series finding success on the new app because it's already been renewed. That big overseas Netflix deal has probably helped matters and while we don't know when production will begin, common sense says that it will probably end up being released at some point in 2019.

Krypton Unveils A First Look At Lobo

Krypton probably isn't the best series that DC produces but it certainly has its fans and those have only increased after this first look at Emmett J. Scanlan as Lobo was revealed. You can see the full photo by clicking here but as with Brainiac, the show certainly appears to be sticking to the source material for inspiration and it should be a lot of fun seeing what the show does with this beloved character.

Cloak & Dagger Returning To Comic Books

A fairly minor news item but one which is bound to make fans of these two happy. Marvel has confirmed that a second volume of the Cloak & Dagger Marvel Digital Originals series is coming in November with Dennis Hopeless returning write the series. He'll be joined by Francesco Mann and this new volume will be titled Cloak & Dagger: Negative Exposure (the lead villain will be Mr. Negative).

A Big Change To The DC Universe's History

Seeing as Doomsday Clock is shrouded in such a great deal of secrecy, it's no great surprise that details were few and far between at the New York Comic-Con. We were, however, treated to some new covers and the one above points to Dr. Manhattan's influence on the DC Universe mostly revolving around the Justice Society of America. The question is, why would he want to remove the team from history?

I'm late on the series, seeing as they're not available here and I have to wait for TPBs, but it was my theory that the Superman of Rebirth was actually Dr. Manhattan. We saw that picture of him looking at Earth from orbit, and I figured he looked at Superman's life, the perfect wife, the normal job, everyone chanting his name, and he started wondering what it would be like to feel love, to have a family, and so he made it happen by orchestrating Rebirth, created himself a son, a wife, a life, and probably also made himself forget who he was.

If that theory has been shared a million times online, I genuinely never saw it. I just felt it could be a great story when I saw him in space looking down on Earth.

The fact that they tried to retcon it, (when it was a story about Superman learning the true value of hope by finding it in absolute despair, and Batman learning that his rules against killing matter, even in a world of super powered people, as well as Wonder Woman finding hope for humanity's future after walking away from world affairs 100 years ago) makes that abundantly clear.

@ThePeterCipher - No. Seriously. I don't understand why its been two years and most of you STILL think "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is this nihilistic cautionary tale against heroism. It's the exact opposite. "Avengers: Infinity War" is far darker and nihilistic than "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice".

Why do you think #ReleasetheSnyderCut exists and the film made an additional 200 million dollars after one half of all audiences rage quit on it. It's a literal deconstruction of the Trinity (who is Superman if he believes he can't save everyone, who is Batman if he believes his rules don't matter and who is Wonder Woman when she believes humanity is doomed to destroy each other, and how do they overcome these obstacles to be better versions of themselves?) that shows why they are the heroes we know and love in the comics. This is why so many people were disgusted with Frankenstein's monster "Justice League". It retconned something that didn't need retconning.

On the upside, "Aquaman" looks even better than I thought it would, and I was already excited for it. All of you, here know how much I love Zack Snyder, as if the above comment wasn't enough. Lol. To me James Wan is an even better visual storyteller than Zack Snyder, mostly because he has a balance between show and tell. When I saw the comments a while ago that said "Aquaman" is like nothing we've ever seen before in Comic Book Movies, I thought it was something like "These critics and such just haven't been paying attention to these Comic Book Movies."

Then I saw the trailer, and it doesn't even remotely remind me of a Marvel movie, and it doesn't remind me of previous DC Films either (possibly because the other DC Films have largely taken place on the surface world/Man's World, and not Theymiscira or Atlantis) and we have never had anything like a treasure hunting film in Comic Book Movies, or at least not in a long time.

I still think it should move. Dec. 21st is the very definition of Mutually Assured Destruction. Nothing will survive it, but it is even more my most anticipated Comic Book Movie. Now if we can just get some news on Henry Cavill Superman and Ben Affleck Batman so I can use my previous avatar again.

It's funny seeing you have to justify a reason for this article to be in the news section. Seems like the only new/previously unreported stuff is the comic related stuff. All the CBM and CBTV stuff were previously reported on the site. Comic stuff goes in the comics section, but CBM and CBTV stuff go in news. You found an admittedly clever but still bullshit way of sneaking one of these articles in the news section.

So not much then,Daredevil Season 3 trailer,Aquaman 5 minute trailer and the American Gods Season 2 trailer were the best highlights of NYCCC.

Super psyched for Aquaman and DD S 3. I think Momoa and Heard have some chemistry, especially the humorous banter. The visuals look great, but if that is all the DCEU needs we could bring Snyder back. 😜 A little scared for DD. I hope Matt finds some of his light again by the end of the season. His no kill rule is what separates him from Castle and Elektra. I hope he goes to the edge, believes killing those like Fisk and Bullseye is what is necessary, but pulls back before taking that leap. No Karen death, please.
