Great news! At the "Cup O' Joe" panel in San Diego, Marvel's former Editor-in-Chief revealed that the studio have regained the rights to both The Punisher (which we found out at last years Comic-Con) AND Blade. He also commented on future Marvel Studios movies, and played a brief scene from The Consultant, one of the upcoming Agent Coulson short films. Thanks to Comic Book Resources for the following.

Speaking of things that will have to wait, Quesada said now that Marvel has regained the rights on film to the Punisher and Blade, some kind of movement on bigger media projects with them can be expected but not any time soon. In a related "wait and see" moment, the CCO said that there are more plans for the heroes of Cosmic Marvel.

Asked whether Marvel will add more characters of color to its film slate. "One of the things we have to deal with first are the icons. If we don't do those first, other characters regardless of race or ethnicity, will fail," Quesada said while Alonso added, "I dream of the day that there will be a Luke Cage movie."

On the movie front, Quesada soon showed a film clip that he claimed to have stolen from Marvel Studios. The short clip of Agent Phil Coulson conspiring with a fellow SHIELD agent over how to trick General Thunderbolt Ross into denying a deal they were offering him. The clip ended in static as actor Clark Gregg rushed the stage with several folks dressed as SHIELD agents to mock-arrest Quesada. The actor spoke to his developing role as one he was given initially by his neighbor John Favreau and then with each successive Marvel film his part grew (when offered a "Thor" role, his response was "By Odin's [frick]ing hammer, yes!")

The actor then said the clip – titled "The Consultant" – is one of two short films that will be included in the "Thor" BluRay to flesh out the background of SHIELD. The second clip will be showing later this weekend at Marvel events.

A woman asked if they'd ever considered making a "Great Lakes Avengers" movie. When told no, she said, "It'd be cute!" to which Quesada responded, "It WOULD be cute...and no one would see it."

BooYah - 7/23/2011, 3:52 PM
@P862010 I'm pretty sure Wesley isn't playing him anymore.
I think the clip will be about bringing Hulk in. Now I'm for sure buying the Thor DVD.
MikeHawk - 7/23/2011, 3:53 PM

StuckInPanels - 7/23/2011, 3:56 PM
WHOA!!! this changes everything.....this might mean they can get back the others....now granted there has been a Blade movie in quite some time so I bet the licensing ownership hit its deadline
jazzman - 7/23/2011, 3:57 PM
F**K YEAH

everyone needs to remember that BLADE started everything of the for Marvel and gritty and hardcore comic book movie.
Spidey91 - 7/23/2011, 3:58 PM
@Kes
I totally agreed,just one year after Joel Schumacher destroyed the Batman franchise and almost the CBM credibility,"Blade" give us a badass character doing badass things and fighting a badass villain with badass movements and weapons
BooYah - 7/23/2011, 4:07 PM
Question doesn't marvel have to reboot these or can't they really continue them? Because if they reboot I don't think Wesley will be Blade again even though he was really good as Blade.
BooYah - 7/23/2011, 4:07 PM
*can not can't
CaptainAmerica - 7/23/2011, 4:08 PM
Lmao everyone also seems to forget that Blade was not advertised as a comic book film and it didn't even have the Marvel logo in the opening credits. X-Men was the first to do that.
RoadDogXXIV - 7/23/2011, 4:08 PM
Too bad I can't find the dancing monkeys GIF on SternFanNetwork right now, because this is perfect news! We've got Blade and Punisher, now we need Cloak and Dagger, Daredevil, Ghost Rider, and Spider-Man, and maybe we can see a Marvel Knights movie!
safecrash - 7/23/2011, 4:10 PM
Next targets, Daredevil and Fantastic 4!
jazzman - 7/23/2011, 4:15 PM
@RoadDogXXIV

Marvel already got Cloak and Dagger

@CaptainAmerica

thewolfx - 7/23/2011, 4:17 PM

becaUse hopefulLy now they will get x-men and spidey back so i dont have see anymore ugly ass costumes XD
superotherside - 7/23/2011, 4:22 PM

jazzman - 7/23/2011, 4:22 PM
@BaneKill77

it was not a simple vampire movie it was a kick ass vampire movie with a character whos a superhero. yes Balde is still consider as a superhero even tho his half vampire.

how would u know if an unknown actor was in the role it wouldnt be successful. right now alot of these unknown actors making a success of cbm and sci-fi films. the X-Men movies had unknown actors i.e. Hugh Jackman at the time and it was success.
spidey1994 - 7/23/2011, 4:23 PM
Awesome!!! Get Wesley Snipes out of jail so we can do this!!!!
GUNSMITH - 7/23/2011, 4:23 PM

THABATMAN - 7/23/2011, 4:25 PM

Sithsidious66 - 7/23/2011, 4:29 PM
BRAVO!!!!!! Marvel *tears of joy*
Zombie137 - 7/23/2011, 4:30 PM
Spider-Man X-men Fantastic-Four keep 'em comin.
Zombie137 - 7/23/2011, 4:32 PM
Also, they need to make more Shorts, releasing on the Captain America DVD.
InSpace - 7/23/2011, 4:32 PM
He'd be better off as a supporting character anyways, like the punisher (in films). Blade shouldn't get another chance on film or tv but he could be a supporting character in a Tomb of Dracula TV series or FIlm

X-MEN MARVEL...BUY X-MEN BACK. TIRED OF THE CONSTANT RAPE OF CONTINUITY AND LIBERTIES THEY TAKE.
BooYah - 7/23/2011, 4:32 PM
Wesley Snipes will not be Blade again. Marvel would have to reboot and they probably will take someone younger.
the17thrunaway - 7/23/2011, 4:32 PM
@teabag. lol that's gonna be my desktop background.

@zombie137. don't forget Daredevil and Ghost Rider.

Does anyone know where Man-Thing is at. I want a proper Man-Thing movie.
marvel72 - 7/23/2011, 4:35 PM
after batman & robin ruined the comic book movie genre it was blade that kicked started it & the x-men & more so spider-man made it what it is today.

-punisher
-blade

i think they've got more chance getting the fantastic four back than anything else.
headlopper - 7/23/2011, 4:35 PM
"Frost, your nuthin to me but just another dead vampire".
Love that quote.
Marvel/Disney, good job!Go get the others!
The first Blade was bad a**,no complaints.
But Quesada said 'cosmic Marvel', and I'm hoping it's not too premature to anticipate a Nova or Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
'I am Groot' anyone?
jazzman - 7/23/2011, 4:39 PM
@marvel72

yeah, even Blade was the first successful R-Rated comic book movie at the time. every other comic book movie was a PG or PG-13 lol.
Jer3miah - 7/23/2011, 4:40 PM
^^ Sticky Fingaz sucked ass as Blade. The whole damn series was FAIL. I'd love to see Blade back, but I'd want Michael Jai White to play him. They better at least cast a Martial Artist in the role. I don't really care much for Punisher, though.. Not since the last two disgraceful films.
HBOMB83 - 7/23/2011, 4:47 PM
Wants to see blade v.s. deadpool. Would be epic especially if it was Reynolds v.s. Jai White.
Number1Wolverine - 7/23/2011, 4:49 PM
@teabag - LMAO.
CaptainTall - 7/23/2011, 4:51 PM
Gerard Butler for The Punisher.

For those that disagree, watch Law Abiding Citizen.
Cross - 7/23/2011, 4:51 PM
[frick] YEAH!!! YOU CAN'T THROW ANYTHING AT BLADE BECAUSE HE WAS THE ONE THAT SINGLE-HANDEDLY STARTED THIS JUGGERNAUT. BLADE SHOULD BE IN THE HOLY ZONE OF MARVEL STUDIOS AND ABOVE ALL OF THE PROPERTIES.

FREE WESLEY BECAUSE HE IS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN PLAY THE DAYWALKER.

WHERE THE [frick] IS DC?
Bodwulf - 7/23/2011, 4:52 PM
Are they fighting over who has the worst Marvel franchise? Cause it's Punisher hands down!
AskaniSon - 7/23/2011, 4:54 PM
@jazzman

X-Men is a VERY poor example to prove your point. Hugh Jackman was unknown, yes. But Patrick Stewart, Halle Berry, and Ian McKellan were definitely not and their presence was integral to the marketing of that film to audiences.
Bodwulf - 7/23/2011, 4:54 PM
Vin Diesel for Blade reboot!!!
Theo1Trooper - 7/23/2011, 4:56 PM
get spiderman back!!
HBOMB83 - 7/23/2011, 4:56 PM
Deadpool walks through the door of a bar as Blade is leaving. They lock eyes in an epic stare down as they keep walking towards each other. Meanwhile Deadpools inner monolouge is in full swing. They walk past each other then all of a sudden all hell breaks loose in an all out sword battle. Then they slowly back away from each other as neither has gained any ground in the battle. Blade backs out the door and Deadpool backs up to the bar. Door closes and then Deadpool sits to have a drink as if nothing ever happened. Cut, end scene, print!!!!
Christuffer - 7/23/2011, 4:57 PM
Wow cool beans. I was kinda missin' the ol Bladester. Haven't seen him since Marvel Ultimate Alliance
SUPERBATSPIDERMAN - 7/23/2011, 4:59 PM
I really don't think a blade movie would be very successful without Wesley Snipes. The TV show only had one season and I bet one of the reasons was that Wesley was not in it. Snipes was perfect as Blade and I can't see anyone doing better than him. Just bring him back and bring back Tom Jane as the Punisher.
TayDee - 7/23/2011, 5:02 PM
[frick] Yeah! Marvel slowly gaining their characters back!
jazzman - 7/23/2011, 5:06 PM
@Kes

well said, thats so true Blade helped in the funding of the X-Men Movie. alot of these guys forget Marvel was Bankrupt. Blade success helped them out to make more movies.
Bodwulf - 7/23/2011, 5:08 PM
@superbatspider Vin Diesel as Blade and the first movie they make outgrosses all 3 Snipes movies!
thedon786 - 7/23/2011, 5:10 PM
MICHAEL JAI WHITE = BLADE
nuclearpriest - 7/23/2011, 5:26 PM
Even though Isaiah Mustafa is one of seemingly hundreds of actors campaigning to play Luke Cage, Blade is the part that he should be striving for. He would be perfect.
