James Gunn's wife, Jennifer Holland, plays Emilia Harcourt in the DCEU (and presumably the DCU as well), but it's now been made clear the filmmaker played no role in the character's comic book return...

Since first playing Emilia Harcourt in The Suicide Squad, Jennifer Holland has really made the character her own. We saw that in Peacemaker, while the actress also made a couple of memorable cameo appearances in Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods

Despite how impressive Harcourt's work has been, there are those who cry "nepotism" at her DCEU casting and some who believe Holland's husband, filmmaker James Gunn, is conspiring to replace Amanda Waller with her character in the new DCU.

Seriously.

Harcourt will soon make her return in the pages of DC Comics' Batman: The Brave and the Bold and, as you can see below, the DC Studios co-CEO has been forced to deny he had any involvement with that decision (something confirmed by the comic book's writer).

Gunn has also laughed off the suggestion he has some sort of Emilia Harcourt masterplan for the DCU, reminding fans that a Waller TV series is on the way long before Peacemaker season 2 - which is expected to co-star Holland - becomes a reality.

Now, there are fans who are disgruntled that many of the DCEU actors Gunn previously worked with are getting the chance to return. That's no doubt a result of Henry Cavill, Dwayne Johnson, and perhaps even Gal Gadot being ousted. In this instance, though, we don't think there's anything more to this than what we see here.

Check out Gunn's Tweets (and Threads) below.

Well, I see 2 reasons he has his wife in all his movies, (1) Happy wife, Happy Marriage. Especially if she can act. (2) That's how he knows where she is at all times, he don't have to worry about her cheating on him.

It’s probably the reverse, they probably brought her back bc she now has people who will recognize her from the show

@bobevanz - I hate Ron, and he's going to lose this lawsuit, but he hasn't formally asked Disney to drop the lawsuit, and he's not willing to make any concessions, he said he wants them to accept the changes he's made and drop the lawsuit.

I'm sure he's shitting bricks, but I thought he was fully backing off from the image you shared, and he isn't. I'm glad he's not because I want him to get buried in court.

Why wouldn’t DC capitalize on the character especially of her popularity has grown with the movies. Also, fantastic cover

@ShellHead - she’s a good actor. I’ve said it before, if I’m a leader, I’m going to build a team that I trust and who will deliver. If it’s family, friends, trusted colleagues, I want those who will bring success to the project and [frick] off to all of the haters.

If there’s one thing I can’t stand, synergy between these movies/shows and comics. I remember when they tried to make Felciity a thing in Green Arrow 🤢

@dracula - she had a few appearances in the comics.

She was an NSA agent sent to work with Waller to overlook the SS

Waller was temporarily Suspended during that run during which Harcourt took over the Squad

Was ultimately revealed to be a double agent and killed by Boomerang.

There's bad synergy and good synergy. I know nothing about comic book harcourt and have 0.01% interest in peacemaker in any media format, so it's all a wash to me lol

Wow! Being the wife of the CEO really gets you in the door. Comics are written about you and everything.

James Gunn's blatant nepotism AND cronyism is going to cost DC and Warner Brothers dearly. So much so, I am not sure we will even see a James Gunn Superman. His marketing efforts (or lack of) has led to two of the biggest flops in the DC studios less than a years history and among the biggest for the studio broadly. His own effort at a DC film made it clear no one wants his brand of comic book films.

Nah, it’s because those movies were shit and it’s tough polishing turds
Forthas

@WhatIfRickJames - To be honest...while they are not good films, I have seen worse films than the Flash and Shazam 2 and they did not bomb this hard.
WhatIfRickJames
WhatIfRickJames - 8/15/2023, 12:46 PM
@Forthas - people didn’t want to see the movies. That’s not his fault. Indiana Jones is a huge tent pole event, nobody went and saw it. Is that James Gunns fault too? Or Spielberg? Nope, blame moviegoers
Forthas
Forthas - 8/15/2023, 12:55 PM
@WhatIfRickJames - I don't get your point. I could just as easily point to Barbie or Oppenhiwmer as the opposite of what you insist. The difference is how it is marketed in many cases. Aquaman was not a good film but it embraced the shared universe had a popular star and trusted director.
