Once again, with a huge Spoiler Warning placed in the following, read only if you're into spoilers. Hit Fix is reporting that Liam Neeson - who played Ra's al Ghul in 2005's Batman Begins - has been spotted on the set of The Dark Knight Rises (despite his claims that he won't be back as Ghul unless he was asked). Below is what they have to say...

According to sources, none other than Liam Neeson was on the set of The Dark Knight Rises on Monday, shooting a scene as Ra's al Ghul. Right now, I can't confirm if the scene was meant to be a flashback or if it takes place in the current timeline of the films, but Neeson was there, and he was in front of the cameras. By Tuesday night, he was already in New York where he showed up for the premiere of the revamped Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark. I have no idea if he's going to return to London for more The Dark Knight Rises shooting or not, but at the very least, we know he's stepped in front of the camera.

Elmayimbe over at LatinoReview seems to back up the claim that Neeson will appear in The Dark Knight Rises

What do you think? Is Ra's al Ghul returning or not? Anyway, The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20th, 2012!

Not surprised if its not a flash back of some sort then I guess that means Nolans going to do some thing supernatural or out there in his Batman movie. I remember Hiddlestone flat out denying that he was going to be in the Avengers in the end he was so wouldn't be surprised if this is true and Neeson is in it. He was pretty good as Ra's.
superotherside - 6/15/2011, 2:37 PM
cool stuff buddy! ;) probably a flashback though...
jazzman - 6/15/2011, 2:42 PM
most likely a flash back scene
Hellsing - 6/15/2011, 2:43 PM
@Ariminies I don't see how that theory works with this rumour which if its true the crazy fanboys out there already know who he's playing.
SHHH - 6/15/2011, 2:45 PM
flash back scene is okay with me!! bring it!

HelaGood - 6/15/2011, 2:47 PM
flashback
MoumentheBatman - 6/15/2011, 2:51 PM
Although unlikely I dont want it to be a flashback! Ra's Al Ghul is my number 1 Bat-villain. And although I know Nolan's take wouldnt include a Lazarus pit but..why not? One can dream, right?

And Neeson is always welcomed!
Rodimus9 - 6/15/2011, 2:57 PM
Blah blah blah.

Let's be real, spoiler warning or not, that gave it away. It's not like they were bringing back Rachel Dawes or Two-Face.
Bandrews1 - 6/15/2011, 3:05 PM
Not sure in between.
OdinsMissingEye - 6/15/2011, 3:08 PM
Im going to bet this movie will be over 2 hours long.
Hellscythe - 6/15/2011, 3:10 PM
@pitchblack: It just as easily could've been Cillian Murphy - in fact, that's who I was hoping (and expecting) it was. This came as much more of a shock - and a pleasant one.

This is fantastic news. Neeson was great as Ra's in Batman Begins and I'm looking forward to seeing him return to the role.
Rodimus9 - 6/15/2011, 3:11 PM
@evileye- wow, that was deep bro.
DukeAcureds - 6/15/2011, 3:12 PM
Okay, here's the thing. There's a young guy playing Ra's and Neeson playing Ra's. Lets say Ra's does not return. Why all the flashbacks? Extensive flashbacks, too. With a younger version that Batman never encountered. Maybe Bane encountered him and these are the reasons for all the flashbacks, but I really hope all those rumours aren't true.
Please keep Bane's origin as it should be, with him being born in prison, etc.
TheDetectiveComicRises - 6/15/2011, 3:13 PM
I would be nice to hear those famous words from Ras to Bats..."Hello Detective or We meet again Detective :)"
NotU - 6/15/2011, 3:14 PM
how about we only allow 'update' posts that are concrete w/ info.

Awesome!:)

tea@ MIND[frick]! In the end of the film Marion Cotillard´s character who turns out to be Talia takes of her mask and turns out to be non other than Ra´s Al Ghul. ;)

Nolan´s gotta end this movie with a big bang and what is better way to do that than bring Batman´s master back with a new apprentice Bane!
ThePuzzler - 6/15/2011, 3:25 PM
when i read the bit on the home page i thought it was gonna be an Adam West cameo...

this is much better news
ckal - 6/15/2011, 3:35 PM
Uhhh flashback. Or he's alive. Shit mine as well bring back Two Face too.
batmanrises - 6/15/2011, 3:41 PM
I called this.
pitchblack - 6/15/2011, 3:43 PM
Are you sure about that teabag? This is marvel72's reaction to the first Dark Knight teaser with Batman, Alfred talking and the Joker laughing:

"the dark knight teaser was shit, just hearing talking is not what i want to be seeing."

Then when the Avengers teaser with just Sam Jackson's voice over was released, he nutted himself and said:

"avengers assemble,i can't wait to see what they're gonna put in the thor & captain america movies to hype us even more before the avengers movie comes out."

When your reasoning is that inconsistent, there is obviously bias. Or just no reasoning ability at all.
TayDee - 6/15/2011, 3:44 PM
Its either a flashback scene with his daughter

or

A scene in the present with him somehow related to the Lazarus Pitts
soda9 - 6/15/2011, 3:58 PM
if he's coming back then i say Bane finds Ra's Al Ghul's body and he dumps him in the lazerus pit to make him immortal!
chaosman92 - 6/15/2011, 3:59 PM
My guess is that they are going to use the Lazerous pit to either bring him back from the dead OR have someone find his burned up body clinging to life and bring him to the pit.
Or on an easier note, have a flashback of him finding/braking Bane out of prison and training him.
But then again, how do you explain the younger Ra's???
killzonev2 - 6/15/2011, 4:01 PM
awesome news and great find!!
pitchblack - 6/15/2011, 4:02 PM
Yeah but that's not his reasoning behind it. He said he doesn't like teasers that have just voices and nothing visual from the movie. If it applies to one thing, but not the other, then there is an inconsistency and basically telling "I tried to give a reason for the sake of trying to show there is something wrong with it, but in reality I didn't like it just because I never wanted another Batman movie."
SdProphet - 6/15/2011, 4:09 PM
@pitchblack dude those must've been from articles months old if not years, do you have a saved archive of conversations hahaha
GothamKnight - 6/15/2011, 4:10 PM
Hopefully, it's just him training and/or mentoring Bane as he did with Wayne. Bane will be the League of Shadows member who is "willing to do what's necessary" unline Wayne. He will then not only attempt to destroy Gotham (finish Ra's work) but also to get revenge on the man who killed his mentor. Thoughts?
TheSoulEater - 6/15/2011, 4:11 PM
Called it
pitchblack - 6/15/2011, 4:14 PM
@Sdprophet, nah actually there was a recent article where the Dark Knight teaser was brought up and he gave his response. Knowing his tendencies, I used the search engine to find the Avengers article. Didn't take more than 30 seconds. Lol.

I did the same thing to see how many tards changed their tune after saying Chris Evans was going to doom the Captain America movie the day he was cast. (Not that he will or won't, but it's pretty amazing how many premature opinions form and how many of those premature opinions change prematurely in response to out-of-context trailers or stills.)
95 - 6/15/2011, 4:15 PM
Maybe Bane was discovered and trained by Ra's in the flashbacks. Then in the present day Bane has come to Gotham to recover his body to bring back with him to the Lazarus Pits. In the end, Bane and Ra's return to Gotham to finally finish what the League of Shadows had started, but this time, Batman has Catwoman to help.

Or.....

Ra's is a "ghost-like conscious" following his apprentice Bane, guiding him to destroy Gotham.

?

But if so, I'm curious as to the methods Bane will use, it couldn't be fear again.

~rm
fayzon10 - 6/15/2011, 4:23 PM
We never actually saw Ra's die, we just saw the train crash and if he is as crafty as batman than most likely he got out somehow...
BrotherFromAnother - 6/15/2011, 4:36 PM
hey @Teabag,
Im sure some of your friends can help you take it up the bum bum if you ask nice. Jk, saw an oppertunity and took it.

I too am burnt on The Bats, or at least w/Christian Bale in the suit, I hope they kill him of and pick up the story or start a new one with someone else(not Bruce Wayne)as the Bat. Just like with Sups the whole Clark Kent angle is played out IMO. I don't think they need too stick with the stories as comics have written them. If they can do alterniate stories with the comics, why not with movies?, specialy if they keep tring to pull in people who know little to nada about the characters.
NeoBaggins - 6/15/2011, 4:39 PM
If he's in a flashback, cool. But this is not Raas Zombie and you don't survive having a train shoved up your ass. I doubt Nolan is going to make two films based on realism, then all of a sudden turn into Fantasia Mickey and start zapping shit into wonderland.

"We all have double standards that fit our particular likes and dislikes"-Teabag

Most profound statement ever made on this site.
profamagoole - 6/15/2011, 4:46 PM
Awesome. Bring this thing full circle Nolan. Then take over Supes from Snyder before he kills it.
BrotherFromAnother - 6/15/2011, 4:49 PM
YIKES!
ISleepNow - 6/15/2011, 4:56 PM
@PonyOfChaos

I'm thinking they might still have him show up if Bane does the Arkham breakout.

ps: nice avatar, but make her hide Purple
Batman5 - 6/15/2011, 5:45 PM
i called this if indeed its not a flashback.
SuperPickle - 6/15/2011, 5:46 PM
At what point in time did Nolan or anyone connected with these films say they were supposed to be "realistic?"

So, a guy dressed up in a high-tech Bat-suit who can glide with the aid of an electro-reactive cape, drives a car that has an escape motorcycle folded up in it, uses a grappling gun which exerts an impossible amount of torque, and goes out at night beating up bad guys without evoking the interest of federal authorities... is realistic.

Yeah.

That makes sense.
007440 - 6/15/2011, 6:10 PM
I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keeping the source materia rules xD

I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keeping the source materia rules xD
BrotherFromAnother - 6/15/2011, 6:13 PM
@tommyMonaghan,
I would say the only thing unrealistic
about all you listed is that it never gets federal attention, the rest seems like a plausable reality to me, as long as You can get away with it that is. I mean I know some of the tech is far fetched too say the least, but unrealistic I don't agree. Now, a ring that can not only make you fly, but fly through space and can conjure up anything you can imagine and give it virtually unlimited amounts of force untill it runs out of power but then you can recharge it from a lantern with undying power, requires a little more stretch of the imagination, I think that would be the difference between realistic and unrealistic.
fangz - 6/15/2011, 6:15 PM
ok, another poster earlier said, Liam plays Ras in a flashback and the younger Ras is the one alive now, post Lazarus Pit?

but what if it happens where Bane tosses Bruce out the window and practically kills him, thats Act 1.

Act 2---, so now Bruce Wayne is in recovery, in a wheelchair, on mad pills all the time. this recovery part is totally a horror film, he's hallucinating and having these nightmares of fighting Bane again and getting slaughtered, butchered and ripped apart by mobs of citizens. and he starts seeing clues that someone is trying to contact him. they have access to his mansion, and they are masters of stealth, he doesn't know what's real and what's not. but he follows the clues and they lead to a young man who reveals himself as the young Ras Al Ghul, healed by the Lazarus Pit. he offers to show him the way there, but in return for something....(i don't know what?) Bruce doesn't believe him, but Ras is telling him in detail things that no other person could possibly know. so Bruce actually starts to buy into this, he's desperate to be Batman again and he goes there with Ras.
then i don't know what, but somehow it becomes revealed that Cotillard is Talia and the young Ras is just an actor working for her the whole time, and probably Bane too. so the Lazarus Pit was a scam, Ras dies in the first movie.

Act 3????. Batman wins but a semi-ambiguous ending that is open enough for whoever does the next film to do what they want without any baggage.

i could see Nolan going for the scam and misdirection
but i don't see it leading to a resolution of the series, really, just a fun thing to think about. and doesn't leave room for Catwoman except as a side character, a vigilante type of hero to give us a break from all the recovery stuff.
RunDTC - 6/15/2011, 6:26 PM
any movie with Liam Neeson is awesome. he absolutely killed it as Ra's and even if it's just one scene, it will be epic.

Otisburg - 6/15/2011, 6:31 PM
its got to be a flashback scene or scenes, maybe in the back story of BANE.

it would be really stupid if Raas Al Ghul is still alive after being blown up.

but then again this is WB/DC the morons that made Green Lantern.
OdinsBeard - 6/15/2011, 6:56 PM
batman escaped. why not the man who trained the bat?

imjusayin

fayzon10 knows the score
NeoBaggins - 6/15/2011, 7:08 PM
