IRON MAN 3 Scribe Drew Pearce To Rewrite GODZILLA Reboot

With Legendary Pictures' reboot of the Godzilla film franchise now set for a summer 2014 release, Iron Man 3 screenwriter Drew Pearce has been brought on board to give the script a final polish before the casting process begins. Read on for more details.

Recently, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures announced that their much anticipated Godzilla reboot will be hitting theaters May 16th, 2014 (expectedly in 3D). The film, which will be directed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters), debuted a test reel at San Diego Comic-Con this summer, which led to anticipation reaching a new high. Now, Variety reports that screenwriter Drew Pearce - who recently co-wrote Iron Man 3 for Marvel Studios - has been hired to pen a final rewrite of the script. The casting process is expected to begin in four weeks, and sources say that the last minute rewrite is to age the characters to match the actors that are being targeted (there are reportedly no problems with the script). David Callaham (The Expendables), David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight) and Max Borenstein (The Seventh Son) previously worked on the script. Pearce is also working on the script for Warner Bros.' third Sherlock Holmes movie.

Destroyer will be glad to hear this. :) Hope this movie will be good. Really can't wait. Thinking of seeing it at the theater... just depends on how good it looks.

Oh man, this movie has got me so excited. To know that they have a solid script makes me even more happy. It's finally time for Godzilla to be done justice in a North American theater.

I seem to recall this movie announced as a 2012 release back in 2010. I hope this means they're crossing the finish line on this rewrite. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have it right than have it fast, but I'm getting antsy here.

That said, as good as 2012 was for movies, 2014 looks like it's gonna be HUGERER with Dawn of the Apes, X Men, Godzilla, Spiderman, Transformers 4 (I know, it's still Michael Bay, but it will still make a ton), Hobbit 3, Ninja Turtles (I know, I know), Cap 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, Robopocalypse. I'm excited for most of those (provided no one backs out).

They haven't officially begun filming yet. The SDCC footage was just a test reel.

To be honest, the article's title is misleading. The script is written; Pearce is essentially being brought on as a script doctor, to make changes and revisions, not to write the whole thing from scratch.

Hmmm, Drew Pierce worked on Iron Man 3 and Sherlock Holmes 3, both of which star Robert Downey Jr,. Perhaps RDJ will will be in Godzilla as well

This movie is going to be very grounded in reality, which I believe translates in this case to a very dark and serious film. RDJ wouldn't belong in this. He would steal the show from Godzilla for the general audience.

what was the footage they showed at comicon then? BTW love Avengers.....no way in hell could they beat Godzilla...If he was just a giant lizard sure....but that dudes a character!!! If I could smoke a bowl with a giant monster it would be Godzilla...and it would be glorius"Hrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaoooooonk!"

This should easily be one of the best Godzilla films since 1989's Godzilla vs Biollante.

At-least i hope GMK 2001 was pretty good too. I have high hopes for this.

godzilla vs biollante was awesome, i loved that one as a kid, and im glad to say, it's finally getting a dvd and blu-ray release on december 4th of this year, i can't wait to add that to my collection

People really need to get over the whole american godzilla. Some people will even flame if you don't just call it 'zilla'.

Anyway I just hope they make a realistic godzilla or this movie is going to severly short since people always make out like godzilla is unstoppable, if that was true then well the movie couldn't end.

Releasing their film so close to the Spidey sequel (free of reboot baggage) is box office suicide.

Good luck WB trying to make back the money you lose with a probably shitty and rushed Justice League adaptation, that nobody will watch, but I will torrent.

i really hope this is good. i love me some godzilla. makes me very nervous that anyone that had anything to do with the dork knight has something to do with this. one of the writers? that is scary. 'zilla better breathe some darn radioactive breath this time and better be able to take a hit from a torpedo. and he better not be a she that hatches a buncha jurassic park wannabe babies either.
