ABOUT
MTV Geek and Marvel Comics are pleased to present "Avengers VS X-Men: War Journals," an all-new video series going behind the scenes of the year's most anticipated comic book event. This documentary will give viewers an unprecedented look into the Marvel offices, creative retreats, key planning meetings and creator studios -- showing just how Avengers VS X-Men was developed by the most creative minds in comics!

"This is the biggest story Marvel's ever told and we're excited to partner with MTV for a special look at how Avengers VS X-Men came together," said Axel Alonso, Editor In Chief, Marvel Comics. "We've never shown just what goes on in our top secret meetings--from the development of our best ideas to heated debates--and this is the first time fans will see just how it all goes down, along with new insights into key moments of this series."

The series unites the top talent in the comic industry--including Brian Bendis, Jason Aaron, Matt Fraction, Jonathan Hickman, Ed Brubaker, John Romita JR, Olivier Coipel and Adam Kubert--for the biggest story of the year. This twelve-issue landmark series brings together the world's most powerful--and popular--super hero teams for a war like the Marvel Universe has never seen before!

Avengers Vs. X-Men or AvX is a limited series comic book crossover to be published by Marvel Comics beginning in April 2012, that involves the rebirth of the Phoenix Force, the subsequent war between the Avengers (consisting of the main team, the New Avengers, and the Secret Avengers) and the X-Men, and the emergence of a future Age of Ultron, as foreshadowed in Marvel Point One. It will be a 12-issue limited series following Avengers: X-Sanction and X-Men Regenesis story lines.

The event is preceded by Avengers Vs. X-Men #0, which will be published in March 2012. According to Marvel, Avengers Vs. X-Men is the end result of all the threads from the Fear Itself, X-Men: Schism and Avengers: The Children's Crusade stories coming together.

@ comix

its very outdated, boxy, everyone's faces look the same, and he has weird lines going across his characters that I assume is supposed to be his attempt at shading, but it looks horrible.

other than that, nothing. lol

Hope plus The Phoenix Force will DESTROY The Avengers, lol.

Cap and the Avengers are kind of acting like dicks in this story.

Its kind of like in House of M when Cyke and the X-Men were talking about whether they should kill Scarlet Witch so that she doesn't screw up reality anymore, and the Avengers were like, "uh, no. She's an Avenger you guys don't get to decide what happens to her."

Now the roles are reversed. Cap and the Avengers want to take Hope because they're afraid she MIGHT destroy the universe if she bonds with the Phoenix Force. Bunch of hipocrites.

The X-Men will win though, and rightfully so. They have too many powerhouse characters that can counter almost all of the Avengers' characters in some way or another.

The X-men's telepaths alone would be able to take out over half of the Avengers. Add to that people like Magneto, Namor and Colossonaut, and I really don't see how the Avengers would stand a chance.

Granted they have Thor, Rulk, and THing, but aside from their brute strength, which the X-Men can evenly match, The rest of the Avengers roster is no contest for the X-Men.

Gotta keep in mind that the X-Men have the most powerful team they've ever had in history right now.

The Avengers definately do not.

@ Marvel87

I have a feeling Jean Grey is coming back.

They've been hinting at it for the past few years, and Hope has even been referred to as her by other characters.

I have a feeling once the Phoenix Force merges with Hope, she will turn out to be Jean Grey reborn.

Lets not forget that when Hope was born during Messiah Complex, she clutched onto Scott's necklace and opened the locket to reveal a picture of him and Jean, then she smiled.

I'll definately be surprised if that isn't what happens.

@ Gaston

This event is supposed to shape the next few years of Marvel. Much like House of M shaped the future of the mutants in the MU, which is still prevalent today, years later.

I'll agree though, Siege and Secret Invasion both had next to no longterm effect on anything.

@ Gaston

I don't know, I liked Civil War, and it actually took a while afterward to get back to the status quo.

But you're right. other than that, the big events have been crap that just set up the next 6 months or so...which in turn set up the next big event...which in turn were just reasons to kill people off. (Sentry, Wasp)

Siege was just a reason to have Thor, Iron Man, and (steve rogers) Cap reunite. No real lasting effects.

@ Gaston

But you're right, House of M is exactly what every big event should try to be. It was a good story, and it actually changed things for many years.

i don't mind the Avengers being regarded as the underdog (IMO an understatement, but i wouldn't mind playing along with that perception) because that's where true heroes are always tested. rising up against all odds and coming out the real victor after the dust settled.

i just hope Wolvie turn against the Avengers and stay true to his own people and not be used as the deciding factor for whoever side's final victor because to me that would be lame and very predictable.

i'm in this with the Avengers all the way!

I think that is definately what will happen, I just don't think Cyke will die.

And everyone complaining about the artwork...This event is being played out in 3 acts. A different artist is working on each act. 12 issues, so each artist is only working on 4 issues a piece.

Don't let the art turn you off because it isn't going to be one person that entire time.

MadTitan - 4/9/2012, 9:51 AM
@SteveRogersSon - you are right, i also see that but if it comes to picking sides since i am first and foremost an Avenger fan and not ever had been a fan of the X people, therefore it just felt natural to be with the group i would prefer. but on the deeper sense of it it really is hard to judge who's threading the better or right approach to solve that crisis because there's always this thin line separating the personal reason against which would be good for the majority..

Thor and Hulk back to back could wipe the floor with the rest of the rosters from BOTH sides, so why would anyone pick the X-Men????

I hope the Xmen win. Theey have been having the best books coming out of Marvel these past two years and have been better than the Avengers.

I'm with the X-Men. As a lifelong Marvel reader, Avengers would be overwhelmed by the sheer numbers. Magneto alone has posed a great challenge to the entire Avengers lineup in the past. Though they are badass, there just aren't enough Avengers to contend.

ShrakKnight, funny you say that since Marvel kicks the shit outta DC in comics sales nearly every month. If it weren't for DC's new 52(which is actually really cool and a good thing they did it) then they'd have rode second saddle all year AGAIN in 2011.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 4/9/2012, 11:08 AM
@ niknik

I usually agree with you, but not this time. Its too hard to say. The X-Men have telepaths, so its hard to say if Thor and Rulk would even be a problem against them. The Avengers have NO telepaths. Plus X-Men have Magneto. If you really want to get down to it, he could technically knock them all unconscious pretty easily by slowing the flow of iron to their brains, something he's done tons of times in the past.

It all comes down to circumstance. Marvel will make this a good fight, regardless. I just think the X-Men have too many people that could counter the Avengers.

Rulk = Colossonaut. Rulk is tough, but he's no green Hulk. Can he hang with the combined powers of Colossus and Juggernaut? Not likely.

Namor = Thing. That could go either way except for the fact that their on a small island. Namor could easily bring Ben under water where he can't breathe.

In my opinion Thor is the only breakout character that the Avengers have. The X-Men have some serious game changers on their team. I dont know, like I said, its all down to circumstance.
TheMyth
TheMyth - 4/9/2012, 11:11 AM
niknik, ummm, no they can't. And I have over 20 years of comic reading and collecting experience to dispute your statement. I agree that Thor is the best weapon in the Avenger arsenal here, but he isn't unbeatable. According to the fight cards I'm aware of thus far:

Gambit vs Spider Woman = Gambit clear winner
Spidey vs Iceman = tough one that Iceman would win but Spidey's popularity will likely win for him.
Storm vs Thor = Thor wins with a heavy heart.
White Queen v Hulk = Hulk all the way.
Beast vs Luke Cage = Beast easily, he's sway faster and infinitely smarter.
Rogue vs Ms. Marvel = Rogue now that she can control her powers.
Ironman vs Magneto = IM is totally at the mercy of Mags here.
Psylocke vs Black Widow = tough one, a draw!
Colossus vs Thing = Colossus any day of the week.
Daredevil vs Archangel = Archangel easily.
Hawkeye vs Cyclops = this must be a joke... Cyclops
Cap vs Wolvie = tough one again... draw!!!
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 4/9/2012, 11:56 AM
@ essexfactor

those are just teasers. More than likely most of those fights won't even happen. Especially since its shown that Namor is fighting Thing and Colossonaut is fighting Rulk.

all of those fight cards that you see as ads in other comics are just to get the hype up. You can't go by those.

I honestly don't see how, even with Thor, the Avengers stand a chance without the true Hulk on their side.

Rulk can't possibly beat Juggolossus; he would struggle against Colossus without Cytorrak powers, whose organic metal has proven to be pretty much invulnerable to heat.

Namor has beaten the entire Fantastic Four, and Ben Grimm on land, how can Thing stand a chance in or near water by himself? To me, this is the most rediculous battle of all of the one's they've presented or hinted at.

Cyclops's concussive beams move faster than bullets, so how can Captain America dodge any of them once he's thrown his sheild? I can see Cap standing a chance if he holds onto his sheild and moves in on Cyclops, but Cyclops is every bit a military strategist as Captain America - Captain America couldn't subdue the entire X-Men by himself, but Cyclops can and has.

Thor is the wildcard, but has proven on plenty of occasions to be weak against psychic attacks. X-Men have psychics.

I could see it playing out where Vision (who has been immune to psychic attacks in the past) is responsible for taking out the X-Men's psychics, which would give the Avengers a fighting chance.

Magneto vs Iron Man? What a joke. However, I foresee Magneto turnining his back on the X-Men and the Avengers. I think Hope will power Magneto up, but then DEpower Wanda (I don't think she'll ever become the Phoenix, and I've read she might be Jean Grey). Magneto will be furious at this and a now highly powered Magneto will be the X-Men's main villain for the next year or so, Marvel's version of a reboot.

Regardless of what happens, Hope has to cease to be in the Marvel world. She's far too powerful and they will have to start bringing in crazy powerful villains to face the X-Men if they don't. That presents a problem because it undermines the huge cadre of Marvel villains the rest of MU battles against. So either she dies, gets depowered, or returns as Jean Grey, with Jean's traditional powers.

Wow, it's sad to see the hate towards JRJR... He used to be one of my favorite artists.

I used to think he was one of those artists who could draw any character and make'em look cool.

And when I used to draw I had his work specially in daredevil as a guide for scenery / machinery / perspective.

Nice! Jean Grey the White Phoenix is coming back to lay a whoopin on Hope the Dark Phoenix. I think Hope is going to be like Anakin Skywalker; she's the troubled chosen one who will save all of mutant kind in a very unlikely way.
