COMICS: DC Planning Supervillain Switcheroo Event?

The latest rumor on DC Comics' behind-the-scenes machinations says that the comic book publisher is planning a major event which will see heroes like Superman, Batman and others swapping villains. Read on and pick your battles in the comments section.

The rumor is that we'll have DC heroes encountering villains most readers would identify with another superhero; think Superman taking on Joker and Batman taking on Lex Luthor for example. The event will supposedly occur sometime in 2013 but the next and first title-wide event of the New 52 era is the Trinity War. Throne of Atlantis is currently unfolding across Justice League and Aquaman and concludes in February, the same month Justice League of America (an important title in Trinity War) debuts. Based on these known quantities, I'd have to guess that this villain-switch event will occur in the summer.

While this is a concept that we've seen before from DC and Marvel it's still an interesting idea this hasn't been explored to such a wide-scale degree by DC in modern comic book times. Heroes like Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, and Hawkman will do nothing but benefit from exposure to a rogue or two from Batman, Superman or the Flash.

Stay tuned to CBM for more details as the story develops.

i think hawkman vs. gorilla grodd would be pretty brutal
Almight - 12/1/2012, 3:15 PM
I have not read any of the new 52's, and this already done idea makes me want to pick up any of them even less.
ATrueHero1987 - 12/1/2012, 3:17 PM
Another Acts Of Vengeance?
BANEofExistence - 12/1/2012, 3:22 PM
Should be intresting! I could see Black Adam against Superman! Flash should seem intreating, Batman vs Dearhstroke :)
RedandBlue - 12/1/2012, 3:22 PM
That's actually pretty cool. Instead of traditional villians and heroes going at it, other heroes get to see what the other villians are like.

I'd like to see Flash take on Joker, or Batman fight Grodd.

Joker would take a toll on anyone who isn't Batman, lol.
jimpinto24 - 12/1/2012, 3:24 PM
I like he idea of having Batman vs Lex Luthor or Superman vs Th Joker. Even Flash vs Bane. Can't wait!
RSDhillon - 12/1/2012, 3:27 PM
Wayne vs. Luthor was done in Batman: Rules of Engagement. Brilliant idea, still!!

OriginalGuardiansPlease - 12/1/2012, 3:27 PM
Acts of Vengeance was awesome...if i remember correctly (hey its been 20 years since i read them lol) I think that was where the cosmic spider-man run was and that was one of my favorite spider-man runs of the time

Lex Luthor v. Batman is something I've always wanted.
Wildaniel - 12/1/2012, 3:48 PM
I rather see a huge crossover event Marvel, DC, IDW! Imagine Spiderman, Captain America, Batman, Superman, Optimus Prime, and SnakeEyes VS Green Goblin, Red Skull, Joker, Lex Luthor, Megatron, and Cobra Commander!!!

How AWESOME would that be?
Funsize - 12/1/2012, 3:54 PM
Loving the twists going on here!!!
beane2099 - 12/1/2012, 3:59 PM
I mean, it's not a bad idea per say, but given what's been coming out of DC lately, I ain't that enthused. I can't think of too many hero/villain pairings that stand out as a "must see". I always wanted to see Bruce Wayne vs Lex Luthor (note I didn't say Batman) as they were in the old DCU (Morrison's Rock of Ages was a great taste). But in the DCnU Luthor hasn't really been established. I dunnow. I'll wait and see I suppose.
marvel72 - 12/1/2012, 4:00 PM
hawkman vs black adam looks great.
ckal - 12/1/2012, 4:05 PM
What comes with swapping rogues is probably a lot of jobbing.
lanternstorm - 12/1/2012, 4:05 PM
As I've said before, I would like to see Sinestro, Black Adam, General Zod and Eclipso team up and become the new 4 Horsemen of Apokalipse, or even something similar. I'd also like to see the Cyborg Superman (Henshaw) become a more powerful villain... DC has always kept Henshaw on the B List of Super villains only bringing him to the A list during the destruction of Coast city. a Great way to do both, would be to have Henshaw conquer Apokalipse with his Marnhunter robots and Doomsday. Then take his place on the thrown of Apokalipse and release the 4 horsemen into the captured vessels of General Zod (War), Eclipso (Death), Black Adam (Pestilence), and Sinestro (Famine). It would be a universe shaking event that would move Henshaw back up the ladder to the A List where he began in Reign of the Supermen and Green Lantern.
hush - 12/1/2012, 4:18 PM
Nice to have heroes v villains instead of the constant heroes v heroes stories over the past few years.
Pharaoh - 12/1/2012, 4:44 PM
gotta move The Joker and The Riddler to Metropolis, Lex Luther to Gotham would be good & throwing Zod into war against Wonder Woman could be epic, Zod vs Shazam could be pretty cool too
kenjim152 - 12/1/2012, 5:20 PM
Lex is amartele than Dr. Doom, the guy has even faced Darkseid.
kenjim152 - 12/1/2012, 5:21 PM
*Lex is smarter than..... Stupid iPhone
mctrinket - 12/1/2012, 5:26 PM
Always thought Hawkman was a really really dumb super hero.
DatScarletPimPerNeLL - 12/1/2012, 5:56 PM
So would any fans be partial either way to not only "villain swapping"but a more brutal consequence in doing so? Let's say Superman or Shazam(cpt.Marvel) accidentally kills Ras al ghul or 'permanently' maims the Joker or even have a villain kill a top tier hero/supporting character etc...really making the storyline count this time..minus the "Dr.Light" effect with a 2nd or 3rd string hero/supporting character..
Fearless - 12/1/2012, 6:00 PM
Been DONE already. Don't they (DC/WB) watch their own cartoons?
storyteller - 12/1/2012, 6:09 PM
Black Adam vs Superman has been done before(they even made a movie). Deadshot and Green Arrow have gone toe to to on Arrow.
unknownfacts - 12/1/2012, 6:51 PM
It's not the concept that is interesting but how the writer creates the story concept.
Durango95 - 12/1/2012, 7:05 PM
Really...who gives a shit?
RSDhillon - 12/1/2012, 7:29 PM
@Durango95
The people who give a shit are the fans of DC and everyone above who commented.
Bread - 12/1/2012, 8:19 PM
I always wanted to see something like this happen in the movies. I'm glad that Arrow is having Firefly, who is mainly a batman villain, on the show soon.
2Challa - 12/1/2012, 8:27 PM
Lex Luthor is still second to Reed Richards
Shadowelfz - 12/1/2012, 8:35 PM
Hahaha... Hawkman vs. Adam? Shortest battle ever.
Battabing - 12/1/2012, 9:29 PM
I remember when Wonder Woman went up against the Joker back in the 90's. She channeled the mad god Pan to make herself as crazy as the Joker. That shit was insane!
angus666 - 12/1/2012, 9:35 PM
Because Superman vs. Joker makes so much sense. Lex Luthor vs. Batman could be interesting though. Two geniuses against each other.
mgeoff88 - 12/1/2012, 9:42 PM
That's really interesting. I hope we see some original match-ups.
kenjim152 - 12/1/2012, 9:51 PM
@Hush2010 Reed Richards could not defeat gala tus without the watcher's help, so how could he possibly be more intelligent than Luthor???? :s
kenjim152 - 12/1/2012, 9:53 PM
Besides Sue Richards has cheated on Reed with Namor for ages without him noticing, so how can he be possibly smarter than Luthor :)
NubaX - 12/1/2012, 9:57 PM
I think other than somebody like Darkside and Doomsday, Batman would be able most of those villains.

LEX would push Batman to his limits with all the machines he can build.

That would be the most interesting matchup.

The Joker vs. Superman is the second most interesting matchup because the Joker could actually pull of getting under Superman's skin.
2Challa - 12/1/2012, 10:00 PM
Well has Luthor had to defeat the world eater?
Everyone knows Reed isn't the most attentive husband.

When has lex ever held a relationship?
2Challa - 12/1/2012, 10:01 PM
Thats the problem with marvel characters, they actually have flaws.
Reed Richards is the smartest man in comics
kenjim152 - 12/1/2012, 10:12 PM
Hush2010 LEx has had lots of relationships, but he does not caer about them, Lex has defeated Darkseid, Darkseid has defeated Galactus, so Lex can defeat Galactus no problem at all
manofmidgard - 12/1/2012, 11:00 PM
lol do i see booster gold versus marvel's jack of hearts?
tonytony - 12/1/2012, 11:15 PM
terrific idea, I hope that we see some original matchups and they dont simply swap superman and batman villains. Either way, I cant wait.

marvel fan boys in hear hating.
Pharaoh - 12/2/2012, 9:40 AM
I don't think Reed Richards is more intelligent than either Bruce Banner or Tony Stark & Lex who is prob my favourite villain isn't as intelligent as some are claiming in here...
redlion - 12/2/2012, 10:14 AM
@kenjim maybe I'm not famliar with the sources you're referencing but according to the John Byrne created Marvel/DC crossover featuring Galactus vs. Darkseid, Darkseid didn't technically defeat Galactus. As a matter of fact, whenever Darkseid directly attacked the Big G with the Omega Effect and tried to erase Big G from his plane of existence, it had no effect. Galactus then blasted Darkseid with his own eye beams and put Darkseid on his ass, smoking and with a tattered costume. The only reason Galactus left was because Apokolips had no life energy left to be taken. All this mind you when Galactus was already severely weakened from hunger.

In the DC/Marvel Spider-man/Superman crossover of 1981, Dr.Doom basically punked Superman out and arrogantly turned his back on Superman and told him to get the hell off Latverian soil, and this was his first encounter against the Kryptonian so I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss Doom as Lex' intellectual inferior.
