Manu Bennett Talks Playing Deathstroke On The CW's ARROW

Access Hollywood caught up with New Zealand actor at the premiere for Spartacus: War of the Damned and asked him if they should call him Slade Wilson, as he's just signed on for a guest spot on the CW's Arrow. "You can call me Azog from The Hobbit, there's a few names I'm going by these days, I'm going from one thing to another," said Bennett.

Continuing on with a comparison between Spartacus and Arrow, Bennett stated, "There's a very different style to Arrow than what there was to Spartacus. I had a discussion with the writer, Andrew Kreisberg about what they wanted and they didn't want Crixus, that's for sure. They wanted something original for the show and Arrow is reality-based, it's here in the now. It's very fast moving action, it's a whole new [fighting] technique that I'm learning with them. There's some similarities [between Crixus and Wilson] in that I come onto the show against another strong character."

MANU BENNETT (“SPARTACUS”) GUEST STARS AS SLADE WILSON — After Oliver (Stephen Amell) is shot, he turns to a surprising person for help – Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards). Diggle (David Ramsey) is stunned when he sees Felicity walk through the front door of the lair dragging a dying Oliver behind her, and the two team up to save Oliver’s life. As Oliver (Stephen Amell) hovers between life and death, he flashes back to a seminal event on the island – a daring escape attempt with his new friend Slade Wilson (guest star Manu Bennett). Katie Cassidy, Willa Holland, Paul Blackthorne and Susanna Thompson also star. John Behring directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim (#114).

Wait. "New Friend Slade Wilson"?
Does that mean that Oliver will NOT know that Slade is Deathstroke?
It's very stupid to set up something like "he was deathstroke all along!" as a reveal, with a character like this. It's like saying "Clark Kent was Superman the whole time!"
MisterJay - 1/27/2013, 8:20 AM

Who know how things will go down. The bad guys on the island must know by that point that Oliver isn't some spy or anything. So there has to be a point to all this.

Nothing against Bennett but damn Stephen Lang would have been [frick]ing awesome Deathstroke. Cause you know Slade is old and shit in the comics.

I can't wait till they stop calling him the hood and start calling him either arrow or the green arrow
skidz - 1/27/2013, 12:38 PM
@AlexDeLarge: I think Lang would make a great Bruce Wayne, too.
shahrazstate - 1/27/2013, 12:38 PM

alamborn19 - 1/27/2013, 12:42 PM
this is starting to get boring i mean really they are not even going to introduce black canary even though the show may not last until season 2
Nomis1800 - 1/27/2013, 12:45 PM
Deathstroke would be nice as a villain in a DC movie once!
AlexDeLarge87 - 1/27/2013, 1:59 PM

Ceejay - 1/27/2013, 3:52 PM
Comic Deathstroke = 6ft 4inch tall.
Arrow Deathstroke-lite = 5ft 11inch tall.
mgeoff88 - 1/27/2013, 10:34 PM
I'm really looking forward to this episode!
sameoldthing - 1/28/2013, 6:41 AM
@Ceejay
Who gives a shit about his height?
Bennett is a badass dude..fits 'Stroke nicely.
It's near impossible to get actors that are exact height / weight as comic version.

Comics are great, read those for original characters & just be glad there are tv / movie versions as well..we could be left with only more boring cop & medical dramas.
StrangerX - 1/28/2013, 7:14 AM
Is it weird that I know what this guys wang looks like
Dedpool - 1/28/2013, 8:39 AM

Rambaldi47 - 1/28/2013, 12:39 PM
Why is Deathstroke's mask yellow in all the flashbacks but the mask they showed in the pilot was orange?
