COMICS: DC Announces New Creative Team For WONDER WOMAN Series

Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang's critically acclaimed Wonder Woman run will come to an end this October with issue #35, and after over three years of a heavy focus on Greek mythology, the new creative team will be taking things in a very different direction. Read on for details!

Meredith Finch and her husband/Forever Evil artist David Finch are set to take over Wonder Woman from Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang. Their run will begin with Wonder Woman #36 this November, and the focus will apparently now be on Wonder Woman's, "interpersonal relationships and her responsibilities to the Amazons and her fellow heroes in the Justice League." That sounds like a far more traditional take on the character than the current creative team's exploration of Diana's ties to Greek mythology, and Meredith (who has so far written short stories for Zenescope Entertainment) is quoted as saying, "It makes sense if you're going to try to attract that female market that you appeal to them on every level -- your writing demographic reflects the demographic of your readership." What do you guys think about the new creative team?

Isn't she hitched to Superman now?
MrBlackjack - 6/30/2014, 4:22 PM
I've really been enjoying Chiang/Azzarello's run, but I love Finch's art. I okay with this.
Forthas - 6/30/2014, 4:31 PM
Thank God! Hopefully they bring wonder Woman in Line with the world of the other Justice League members.
Shamo - 6/30/2014, 4:31 PM
Finch is one of the best. Not sure about the writer though, never read her work. Can't stand Azarello's run though so hopefully she'll at least make this title readable.

Finch is really hit and miss for me, but that is a great image.

Thats one of the best pictures of WW ive seen. Thats what I want in the bvs movie!
Klone - 6/30/2014, 4:36 PM
Nice. Interesting to see where it goes.
Klone - 6/30/2014, 4:37 PM
WW looks like a teenager/girl in her face in that artwork though.
Buu - 6/30/2014, 4:37 PM
Azzarello's run has been [frick]ing amazing! His run is easily the best solo Wonder Woman series to date!

This news saddens me...

I do hope they focus more on crafting excellent stories and characters than "how best to attract the female market!!" and using shallow techniques. Great excellent stories and character with the protagonist being a female is what I hope they have their minds on.
JordanKing - 6/30/2014, 4:40 PM
She has the face of a little girl! The hell?
Buu - 6/30/2014, 4:42 PM
[frick] all this making it more about the Justice League shit! Azzarello's run was so great because it distanced itself from Justice League and focused on Wonder Woman and the Greek mythology.
Mike89 - 6/30/2014, 4:42 PM
ughh!
Klone - 6/30/2014, 4:43 PM
I'd rather them make her mythos more independent. There is a ton of unexplored aspects of the mythology or forgotten stuff... like what about Greed, Deception and Conquest? They could be made epic, scary characters... like the harbinger of another a villain like Ares. Or what about the Erinyes? Or Pandora? So much untapped stuff. What about Alkyone?

Amarillo's run was the pits. But I guess it's all set in stone now, so there's no fixing it.
rabid - 6/30/2014, 4:44 PM
Azarello I mean. Stupid autocorrect
Klone - 6/30/2014, 4:44 PM
Comics 101: A big bad always becomes 10x more awesome when he/she has several monstrous, threatening and badass harbingers :P

Let's see where they take this. I liked the previous run but this could be good. I like Finch's art but wasn't a huge fan of his Batman.

Interesting creative team dynamic as well.
Buu - 6/30/2014, 4:50 PM
Azzarello DID make her mythos independent. Strife, Apollo and The First Born, all great & fresh Wonder Woman villains from Azzarello's run.
rogmel - 6/30/2014, 4:51 PM
Love the current run, but I'm ready for a change.

One of my favorite New 52 comics, but glad a new team is coming in.

"how best to attract the female market"

So it'll be Wonder Woman: Twilight?
DrunkenNukem - 6/30/2014, 4:57 PM
So...no Goyer?
ThePowerCosmic - 6/30/2014, 5:04 PM
Looks like they're pulling a Marvel reboot to get ready for the film.

Love it or hate it folks this is part of marketing a cinematic universe.
Buu - 6/30/2014, 5:11 PM
Well, it was great while it lasted. I'll probably drop this title after #35.
fanDomX - 6/30/2014, 5:11 PM
@ Super12 yes i agree.
Klone - 6/30/2014, 5:12 PM
I'm aware of that. I mean for other writers who take over.
Klone - 6/30/2014, 5:12 PM
Strife, or Eris, has already appeared in Wonder Woman before Azz.
MichaelPMZ - 6/30/2014, 5:12 PM
This is like following up Neil Gaiman's run on Sandman with Jeph Loeb and Rob Liefeld. Finch is the worst artist at DC today. Dropped with #35.
Prime - 6/30/2014, 5:16 PM
Now Superman can show up in this damn title. And now she can interact with other League members.
Klone - 6/30/2014, 5:17 PM
@Prime

I think it's best if they expand on the goldmine of Greek mythology.
typicalfanboy - 6/30/2014, 5:25 PM
i hope they change her costume to be more like batman v superman: dawn of justice. rumor is, she's actually playing a character named dawn justice, which is just an alias for diana, and she's also a wonderFUL woman. i'm not going to make sense because i'm a fan and ...oh no i've gone cross-eyed.
batcheeks8 - 6/30/2014, 5:25 PM
God I hate how Finch draws women. Chiang's Diana was BEAUTIFUL.
batcheeks8 - 6/30/2014, 5:27 PM
Just look at how her waist is the same size as her thighs. It's so bad.
Buu - 6/30/2014, 5:28 PM
Yes, but Eris/Strife wasn't even remotely interesting pre-Azzarello. Azzarello's Strife is practically a new character.
justinmk - 6/30/2014, 5:30 PM
Also, bring back the iconic red boots.
MightyZeus - 6/30/2014, 5:40 PM
If you want to appeal to the female demographic then WB's should be quickly using there time to do a Wonder Woman film.
