FEATURE: What Is Your Favourite Comic Book?

It's a more difficult question than you might think! Whether you have read hundreds of comic books or even thousands, which single one stands out as being your favourite?

A few months ago, I asked you all what your most valuable comic book was. At the time, mine was a recently purchased issue of Amazing Spider-Man #39 which I've since been lucky enough to get signed by Stan "The Man" Lee. However, you guys had an even more impressive selection with titles ranging from X-Men #1 to Amazing Fantasy #15. However, I now have a very different question for you. What is your favourite comic book? Personally, I find that an extremely difficult question to answer. Should I choose a classic like Amazing Spider-Man #9 (I'm a big fan of Electro) or a slightly more recent effort such as Civil War #2 (has any other comic book had an ending THAT shocking?!).

There are literally dozens more I could list, but Fantastic Four #509 by Mark Waid and the late Mike Wieringo stands out for me. It kicks off with the death of The Thing and a tearful Reed Richards' attempt to revive him. As the issue progresses, we discover that the Fantastic Four have since split up and we see each of their reactions to the loss of their friend. It culminates with the revelation that Reed has kept Ben's body because he detects a faint sign of life. In order to try and bring him back, he has built the same machine which scarred Doctor Doom's face when he attempted to use it to find his mother in Hell. As the issue comes to a close, Reed, Sue and Johnny come together for one more adventure - to bring The Thing back from Heaven; perhaps their most unique destination ever.

This is a fantastic comic book which is part of a truly wonderful run by Mark Waid and Mike Wieringo. I can't recommend it enough and this issue in particular was simply, well, fantastic. While it may not have been full of action, it packed a far more powerful punch than any thrown by a superhero - an emotional one. So, what is YOUR favourite comic book and why? KINGDOM COME!
RorMachine - 3/8/2012, 2:01 PM
Probably..Sandman number 8 "The Sound Of Her Wings". The first appearance of Morpheus's sister Death, and just a standalone issue as she brings him around while she nrings people over to the other side. Writing was amazing, and pretty much cemented my love for the character and the comic.

Even though I'm much more a marvel fan, one of my favorites is the same as Misterfan - KINGDOM COME. That rocked. The art was superb and the story just as good.

Thor: Secret Invasion 1-3. When Thor has Balder and Beta Ray Bill take control and goes and delivers the baby. The Godkiller then starts kicking BRB ass all over the place. At the end of the second issue, Don Blake (THOR) tells Bill to "Bill, stand down, brother. It's okay. I'm here." That leads to the next issue where we see how tough Thor is. "YOU WILL NOT PASS." After each hit, Thor is still offering peace. Excellent!!!!!!

Easy, X-Men #137 the Death of Phoenix. It has it all.
MassExecutions - 3/8/2012, 2:19 PM
Amazing Spider-Man #122 is a good one. I love it when the Goblin dies and the caption says "So the proud men die, not on crosses of gold, but on stakes of humble tin." Some might say corny, I say classic.
mrHJK - 3/8/2012, 2:20 PM
Ultimate Spider-man #122 "The Worst Day in Peter Parker's Life"
I've read this issue more than any other
mrHJK - 3/8/2012, 2:23 PM

Oh... tough one.

IDK.

Here's a list of some of my favorites:

If I thought about it some more there's probably plenty more I could add.

First off, if you're over 12 you shouldn't have a favorite movie...or single comic book.

That said, Amazing Spider Man 270, "Spider-Man vs. Fire Lord" was great.
superotherside - 3/8/2012, 2:27 PM
Also:

spiderman2020 - 3/8/2012, 2:29 PM
the Ultimate Spiderman series with Peter Parker
TheAmazingChrisReeve63 - 3/8/2012, 2:29 PM
Amazing Fantasy #15, hands down. If I hadn't read that, then I would have never known Marvel Comics. So, thanks a bunch, Stan and Steve. :)

Stay EPIC, my friends!
SmellofDuty - 3/8/2012, 2:29 PM

MJPETTY7 - 3/8/2012, 2:30 PM
Best comic I have ever read... Most recently I'd say the New 52's Detective Comics #1, but in general, Superman/Batman: Public Enemies. I don't know how many times I've read it!

AlexDeLarge87 - 3/8/2012, 2:31 PM

300, Arkham Asylum, Infinite crisis can make a case, but are not close.-
LAXtremest - 3/8/2012, 2:40 PM
Don't remember the issue, but the Savage Dragon where he finally kills Overlord is one that sticks out from my childhood.

Off the top of my head my favorite older comic would be Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD #1-5, but particularly #1, Who is and Whatever Happened to Scorpio.

Out of newer comics, I really liked the first Issue of Secret Warriors.

By no means do I have one singular favorite comic, so this is what i first thougtht of.
