Marvel reveals that Thanos has returned in Avengers Assemble #3 following his live action introduction during the mid-credits scene of Marvel's The Avengers. The cosmic villain revealed himself as the mastermind behind the new Zodiac and Tom Brevoort had this to say about his return. "Since we designed AVENGERS ASSEMBLE to be a nice, easy entry point for people coming out of the film, for all that it still exists within our current Marvel Universe, it was a bit of a no-brainer to have Thanos be the villains behind our first storyline. More than simply bringing him back, this storyline will be setting him up for bigger things that are just off on the horizon—it’s the first step towards something we’ve been working on behind the scenes for a while now."

"He’s a villain of such power and stature that he can give the Avengers a fight all by himself," he adds. "There’s no such thing as a small Thanos story—he operates on an intergalactic scale. And he’s a fascinating, nuanced character, with passions and neuroses all his own that make him stand apart as an individual, and not just a cookie-cutter moustache-twirler." This doesn't come as too much of a surprise, especially as the series (met with a mostly negative reaction from critics) is basically only in existence to to tie-in with the film. While Marvel claim that it is set in current continuity, many fans have found fault with how some of the characters are portrayed.

marvel72 - 5/9/2012, 2:45 PM
thanos is gonna be everywhere now, marvel should either do a live action or animated adaption of "thanos quest" its a classic comic.
JordanKing - 5/9/2012, 2:47 PM
Sweet, just a shame that series sucks like no tomorrow.
RAZE - 5/9/2012, 2:58 PM

MrAgamotto - 5/9/2012, 3:00 PM

WHY GOD? WHY?!! AH! F*CK YOU BENDIS! Thanos was dead, why you had to bring him back?! How do he escape from the collapsing Cancerverse? And where's Starlord and Nova?! Why would Thanos create a Zodiac super villain team?! He´s a Cosmic dude! But more importantly, When will Bendis are going to stop raping characters?! WHEN?!
Spidey91 - 5/9/2012, 3:07 PM
LOL,Thanos' face reminds me of:

put on a pair of sunglasses and it becomes "dat ass" face :P
Sparrowsabre7 - 5/9/2012, 3:15 PM
I agree with red hood, the throwaway spoiler in the description is needless. I know the movie has already been out a grand totaly of 4 days in the US but still...
Himura - 5/9/2012, 3:16 PM
Uhhhh wtf is wrong with this website. Lately there have been spoilers in the headlines, descriptions, etc.

I've seen the Avengers so I dont mind as much but this shit keeps happening on this site. I'd be SUPER pissed off if I hadn't seen the film yet.

CBM, get your act together and stop posting spoilers in the headlines. If not, less and less people will stop supporting this site because guess what? Some people DON'T WANT TO READ SPOILERS.
thingrock4 - 5/9/2012, 3:20 PM
@NorrinRadical-Don't worry dude you'll F'N LOVE IT!!! AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!!!!
Himura - 5/9/2012, 3:26 PM
@PatientZero

I am inconvenienced by it. Why? Because the season ending of the Walking Dead WAS spoiled for me. I'm trying to defend those who haven't seen the film yet. And I would say this is a pretty big spoiler. A spoiler is a spoiler regardless.
kingmonkeyman - 5/9/2012, 3:31 PM
Wow. This thread has been hijacked by the me generation. Go bitch about something worthwhile other than spoilers on a site known for spoilers after the biggest movie of this century has come out.
Wildaniel - 5/9/2012, 3:47 PM
In other news I just found that I have 3 issues of Iron Man 55, first appearance of Thanos. I wonder how much they are worth?
Seven23 - 5/9/2012, 4:01 PM
I cant wait to see him on avengers 2
kingmonkeyman - 5/9/2012, 4:07 PM
I'm not trying to start anything except get people to use common sense. If you're a comic book fan and you don't already know what happens at the end of the movie then why are you here. That news is on all types of social media not just comic book sites; it's everywhere. Some people are just being ridiculous or out of touch with reality if they think they can go to a site about comic book movies and not risk the chance of being spoiled, regardless of spoiler tags. And if a 20 second long clip ruins an entire movie then you should just relax and eat a Shawarma.
ibravosp5 - 5/9/2012, 4:28 PM
PUNY GOD
Mechagino - 5/9/2012, 4:28 PM
God, his face looks TERRIBLE on that cover.
YoungThanos - 5/9/2012, 4:36 PM
wasn't all that impressed with "Thanos Imperative" so I'm quite sure them throwing him into this book will be pretty lame as well since only a select few writers can do Thanos Justice. That being said I hope the next movie projects him right. Oh and he must have Gamora with him as well. (original sexy outfit included.)
FEJ - 5/9/2012, 4:49 PM
In the mid credit scene he puts his hand down to get up, why was it not purple?
ThePowerCosmic - 5/9/2012, 5:08 PM
I think they kind of just wanted to imply that Thanos is coming. I guarantee they will put more time into the "look" of him when he get's his full debut on the big screen. Everything has looked so great in the Marvel cinematic universe so far (The Destroyer, Loki, The Chitauri, Red Skull) They will do a Character like Thanos right!

Think about it too, they aren't going to go through tons of character concept artwork, CGI studies, and build an elaborate costume for a 30 second side face shot. He will look better.

His appearance looked a bit rushed in the film.
OdinsBeard - 5/9/2012, 5:15 PM
Kingmonkeyman@ you're right dude. i wanted to complain that i was psoiled on a few things during the week in between the itl release and the us release but hey, what are ya gonna do when most of the world has seen it already? can't bitch.
marvel72 - 5/9/2012, 5:32 PM
@ ironman53

that image of thanos you posted,i've just saved to my lap top.

f*ckin brilliant nice one.
MartianSupermanhunter22 - 5/9/2012, 5:36 PM
Hopefully his comeback is longer and done better than darkseids in the newer justice leagues. Cause that was just too short, and their fight was weak.
MartianSupermanhunter22 - 5/9/2012, 5:38 PM
*league
theomegasanction - 5/9/2012, 5:55 PM
agree odinsbeard. i have been tip toeing around this site to avoid spoilers. i still was spoiled about thanos but that was my bad. shit happens and the only way to avoid being spoiled 100 percent is to avoid this site until you have seen it, so thats on the individual. but i just got back from seeing it and it was my favorite marvel movie yet! Joss Whedon is king, i wasn't sure he could manage so many characters and plot devices in what really isn't a lot of time, one lord of the rings movies is longer! the end credit scene caught me off guard, but i won't spoil it for you, Ha!
DukeAcureds - 5/9/2012, 7:01 PM
Woopwoopwoopwoopwoop...So happy...Avengers movie rules...woopwoop...
DukeAcureds - 5/9/2012, 7:04 PM
Dirty Kebabs in Avengers Assemble #4!!! Isn't it ironic that the Kebabs were left out of the UK version of the movie, but they don't know what the Hell they even are in the states?
Zell9 - 5/9/2012, 7:35 PM
oh really bmb then explain how Thanos got out of the Cancer Universe
GLprime2814 - 5/9/2012, 8:15 PM
OMG I NEVER SAW THIS COMING, sigh!
Mechagino - 5/9/2012, 8:44 PM
@Zell9
Joe: Magic, that's how.
JorEl85 - 5/9/2012, 9:55 PM
Wow way to give that away in the description. Haven't seen the movie yet. Good job dude.
Macksimus - 5/9/2012, 10:14 PM
Yeah, this makes sense to me. I'm sure Marvel is going to expose the hell out of Thanos from now until his next appearance in a marvel movie. He'll play bigger roles in the comics, cartoons, and video games. Then, when the next Marvel movie comes out that is featuring him, everybody will know who he is.

...people at the theater were all looking around asking who he was in the mid-credits scene LOL.
LAXtremest - 5/9/2012, 10:15 PM
Does anyone remember the dick head who was posting spoilers all over the place on here? He did it for Walking Dead and this movie. I just can't recall who it was.
leftcoastpunk - 5/9/2012, 10:36 PM
Im a huge proponent for personal responsibility, but it would be a decent move to give someone the chance to look away. There's a lot of other cbm news other than the avengers that people come here for, and to see a spoiler for a movie in a headline about a comic is pretty messed up. Kinda expected more from a regular.
EarOne - 5/10/2012, 3:08 AM
i thought translating the silly-looking KANG the Conqueror to the live-action big screen version would be tought..so, honestly [SPOILER for those extra sensitive whiny gurl posters out there]..when i see they went ahead with THANOS, i was impressed AND concerned at the challenge marvel's taking on for their future endeavors. then again..they already made THOR and his asgard world work and accepted by the general, as well as fanboy, audience.

but, personally, i would go with Ultron as the next villain for Avengers 2. then again..no one's saying Thanos's meant for Avengers 2, either. he could be in Thor 2, or Avengers 3..we shall see where the bonus scene would lead to...

NorrinRaddical - 5/10/2012, 6:16 AM
ThingRock4 : no worries brother, and thank you! I know that nothing is going to lessen how awesome the experience will be

PatientZero: i know i know, that's why i joked it was my fault. this is the only place in the world i could admit this...but there was something of a personal tragedy opening week (what else could keep us away?), and the worst part of me kept wondering if i could convince folks that the Avengers might cheer us all up (what a jerk!).

but tomorrow Imax 3D, i'm ready to have my head explode with joy

NorrinRaddical - 5/10/2012, 6:19 AM
EarOne: cut me/us some slack for "whining", it's only been out less than a week here in the states, some of us couldn't make it opening weekend, and nobody spoiled anything for you yet
