BOX OFFICE: TDKR Beats TDK's Overseas Cume; Will Hit $900M Worldwide Tomorrow

The Dark Knight Rises has now passed The Dark Knight's overseas cume and looks set to become the first Batman film to earn more there than in North America. Even more exciting is the news that it's worldwide total will hit $900 million tomorrow.

The Wrap reports that The Dark Knight Rises has topped the foreign box office for the fifth consecutive week with a haul of $20.6 million. That takes its overseas total to an impressive $487 million, topping The Dark Knight's $469.7 million from all the way back in 2008. This also means that Christopher Nolan's third and final Batman movie will be the first big screen adaptation starring the Caped Crusader to earn more abroad than in North America. Despite facing stiff competition in international markets from the likes of Brave, The Bourne Legacy, The Expendables 2 and Total Recall, the threequel is now expected to hit the $900 million mark by tomorrow. It has yet to open in China, although it is expected by most to have no problem eventually hitting the $1 billion mark by the end of its run.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ "The Dark Knight Rises" is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster "The Dark Knight." The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

STARRING:

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman
Michael Caine as Alfred
Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon
Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox
Tom Hardy as Bane
Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake
Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate

usa isn't the center of the world you know. of course it will make more outside of the usa because the rest of the world is bigger than usa
MisterJay - 8/19/2012, 1:20 PM
how!!?? this movie sucked ... it was boring as hell... and stupid... bring the reboot... frck.. nolanites bring the real batman fans
GoILL - 8/19/2012, 1:24 PM
@darkgod how can this shitty movie is, lol wtf is that.

@MisterJay a lot of real batman fans love this movie.
Bobevanz - 8/19/2012, 1:25 PM
This movie did suck, well up to bane breaking the bat was epic, everything after was just one big ass facepalm!!
BattlinMurdock - 8/19/2012, 1:27 PM
USA is not the center of the world, no.

But we have more theaters than any other country in the world.

That's why, sometimes, the foreign box office and the domestic one can round off to about the same.
jazzman - 8/19/2012, 1:28 PM
u people are a fricking joke.

the movie is good yes it has flaws just like The Avengers that movie also had flaws. buy guess what i happy both TDKR and The Avengers has done great.

aral - 8/19/2012, 1:29 PM
I can't believe how retarded you guys can be. The film was good. Not Batman Begins good, but GOOD.
95 - 8/19/2012, 1:29 PM
I'm so happy. Great movie.
tonytony - 8/19/2012, 1:30 PM
proof that aurora really did hit this movie bad in the states. I read somewhere that if aurora didnt happen and this movie had opened with the additional $40-45 mil on the opening weekend and it had diminished with exactly the same ratios in the states that it would have hit 500 mil domestically by now.

The great thing is that batman is a global phenomenon that his appeal stretches from the US all the way to asia, africa and of course europe. Same with superman. And thanks to Nolan he is respected above all other franchises. And the actions and opinions of a few vocal die hard marvelites will not prevent it achieving its success.
Bobevanz - 8/19/2012, 1:30 PM
This movie shows not even Christopher nolan knows the formula to a trilogy.

MisterJay - 8/19/2012, 1:30 PM
@RR10 becouse this movie doesn't deserve it... at least the avengers is a movie for the fans... im a dc fanboy... but at least im honest... this movie sucked...
Bobevanz - 8/19/2012, 1:32 PM
So were haters because it's going to make a billion and since nolan can do no wrong were jelly? How about because it wasn't a good movie. Derp
Robert - 8/19/2012, 1:32 PM
All you haters are so hilarious, b/c we ALL know you'll be buying the blu-ray and buying the collector's edition when it's available.
TankD - 8/19/2012, 1:33 PM

Bobevanz - 8/19/2012, 1:34 PM
Not me robert, not me. Nice name btw haha
Bobevanz - 8/19/2012, 1:36 PM
This is the purchase everyone should be making instead, a quite good one at that.. :)

SimyJo - 8/19/2012, 1:38 PM
I'm getting really REALLY tired of these endless pointless articles giving a running commentary on how much the film has made week by week. Seriously, (apart from DC) who gives a toss?.

*shrugs*
MisterJay - 8/19/2012, 1:39 PM
Batman the lost years
jazzman - 8/19/2012, 1:39 PM
this is great news cause TDKR is not a fricking 3D movie.
Angelus - 8/19/2012, 1:39 PM
Great news! I really enjoyed the movie more than The Dark Knight but Begins is still the best Batman film to date, in my opinion.
CCR - 8/19/2012, 1:40 PM
Haters to TDKR are funny. First of all, there are no "plotholes" in the film, name one please and I'll explain it to you in terms you can understand...MAYBE understand I should say, lol. Secondly, to say Nolan's Batman films aren't how Batman is supposed to be is either one of two things: You don't understand that it's OK to have deviations from the comics, even though the comic deviate from THEMSELVES ALL THE TIME...or you're just a closed-minded "purist" who just looks for differences and can't enjoy supreme entertainment (awesome story, acting, AND visuals) for what it is. I feel sorry for you guys, but hey, most of the Batman fans are MORE than satisfied, so no skin off my grayson.
Bobevanz - 8/19/2012, 1:40 PM

ironkidd - 8/19/2012, 1:41 PM
Everyone should know that Nolan kinda [frick]ed up this movie it was sooo slow and stupid just think about it the bomb was still ticking for 3 months and then when batman came back it was half way gone and then in like 30 to 40 minutes of battle then the bomb finally wanted to give out WTF but it was entertaining but not as fun and AWESOME as the AVENGERS
PeterDarker121 - 8/19/2012, 1:41 PM
Whatever. I'm just happy I was right when I predicted that the 'Ward' reference in the first trailer was a hint that a 'Robin' would be in the movie, and I was nearly laughed off the boards by my supposedly open-minded comic-book movie lovers.

That admittedly prickish 'I told you so' being said, I think 'TDKR' was an overblown, self-important mess, and I've seen it three times. I'm not a Nolan-hater by ANY means, I just think it will stand as the weakest of the trilogy and his weakest film overall as a director.
thamorse - 8/19/2012, 1:42 PM
This may be a bit off topic, but I'm constantly surprised that people who spend so much time reading can have such bad grammar.
Bobevanz - 8/19/2012, 1:43 PM
I could say the same to all of you who trash anything else on any thread. People can have opinions, most people i think are misconstrued when it comes to this movie because they cant tell themselves its bad. Think real hard, prometheus had fewer plot holes than this ish. Derp. Why do you get offended? Its not your movie ^_^
TheSkywalkingKnight - 8/19/2012, 1:44 PM
Here we go again!
CCR - 8/19/2012, 1:45 PM
@SimyJo

Everybody that's read this article "gives a toss", more so the people that feel the need to post a comment. Like you.
tonytony - 8/19/2012, 1:45 PM
TDKR is definitely not as good TDK. But its still a fitting end to the trilogy.
timotey - 8/19/2012, 1:46 PM
For me, it was the best movie in the trilogy. Happy that it's doing so well!
MisterJay - 8/19/2012, 1:46 PM
the whole talia's thing was stupid and meaningless... this movie sucked... bb and tdk where epics but this thing? .. cant be compared with the avengers ... or bb, tdk .... nolanites are blind people with big mouth
CCR - 8/19/2012, 1:48 PM
@Herald
Like I said in my post, name a plothole and I'll figure it out FOR YOU.
SageMode - 8/19/2012, 1:49 PM
Actually, BATMAN AND ROBIN is the first Batman movie to do more overseas than domestic.......

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic:  $107,325,195    45.1%
+ Foreign:  $130,881,927    54.9%
= Worldwide:  $238,207,122

CCR - 8/19/2012, 1:50 PM
@Bobebanz

"Why do you get offended? Its(sic) not your movie"

EXACTLY. Take your own advice dipsh*t.
AmericanPsychoWolf - 8/19/2012, 1:50 PM
Damn straight it deserves a billion!

Best movie for me!

AmericanPsychoWolf - 8/19/2012, 1:51 PM
If Avengers is ripoff of Transformers then what is TDKR a ripoff from?
BVBArmy666 - 8/19/2012, 1:51 PM
This movie was good ! I liked the avengers and TDKR Both but if I had to choose one by force then I'll choose the dark knight rises , but I thought the avengers was too funny to be taking seriously by that I mean too much laughs . But yet I still loved the movie .
AmericanPsychoWolf - 8/19/2012, 1:52 PM
Just wait til it hits a billion...
Kingdork - 8/19/2012, 1:52 PM
Movie's was alright. Enjoyed it a lot better the second time around. The thing that bugged me a little it's that the movie is downright stupid and silly with the pretense of being deep and profound. It worked with the TDK because it actually had something interesting to say, but with Rises... Not so much. On opening day some plots points and reveals (including the pathetic death of a certain someone) had my theater laughing, and I was quit shocked. But it's not bad IMO. But people saying this is a masterpiece of a film should really need to have their head checked... IMO.
Maximus101 - 8/19/2012, 1:52 PM
You marvelites are pathetic (herald- bobevanz) grow the fck up! You marvelites are the worst, third comment no this thread is a marvelite starting shit it's pathetic. If the move is that shitty why are you commenting thn? It's clearly an amazing movie if it makes a billion and gets 5 star reviews lol
CPBuff22 - 8/19/2012, 1:53 PM
A couple of my friends who live over seas (UK, Japan, Australia) have said that after the shooting in the US is when people got interested. Everyone was wondering what could cause that so they went to see the movie. Meanwhile in the US... People avoid the movie or carry guns to it out of fear.

Funny how the world works.
AmericanPsychoWolf - 8/19/2012, 1:53 PM
All you ites suck.
Luminescent - 8/19/2012, 1:54 PM
Why are people hating? [frick] sake, get a life. I'm a marvel fan but TDKR was way better then The Avengers...Aliens coming to take over earth? *gasp* Where have I seen that before!?
AmericanPsychoWolf - 8/19/2012, 1:54 PM
Hey TotalDumbAs wanna make a bet on it?
CPBuff22 - 8/19/2012, 1:54 PM
@Maximus101 - You do realize Grif also said Amazing Spider-Man was Shit right? So how does that make him a Marvelite?
SUPERBATSPIDERMAN - 8/19/2012, 1:54 PM
@MicheaIBay - Do you ever shut the hell up? I don't remember Transformers having super heroes in it nor do I remember Avengers having transforming robots in it. Transformers is not the first movie to have aliens in it.
TheSkywalkingKnight - 8/19/2012, 1:55 PM
TeamDarkAvenger: You will be banned soon!
SimyJo - 8/19/2012, 1:56 PM
@CCR.

You are wrong. I REALLY couldn't care less.
I couldn't care less if TDKR makes less, an equal amount or more than any other superhero film. It makes absolutely ZERO difference to how I enjoy the film.

Opening weekend and closing figures are fine for news or editorials, but a goddamn running commentary on how much the film has made, week by week, by week by week, by nauseating week, is just fuel for the fire for the ridiculous Marvelites Vs Nolanites behaviour.
CPBuff22 - 8/19/2012, 1:56 PM
@MichealBay, the movie your thinking of wasn't Avengers it was Battle Ship. And your welcome to sue them for royalties but it didn't make that much.
AmericanPsychoWolf - 8/19/2012, 1:56 PM
Okay TotalDumbAss if this reaches a billion, you will be gone forever!
