BOX OFFICE: TDKR Beats TDK's Overseas Cume; Will Hit $900M Worldwide Tomorrow

The Dark Knight Rises has now passed The Dark Knight's overseas cume and looks set to become the first Batman film to earn more there than in North America. Even more exciting is the news that it's worldwide total will hit $900 million tomorrow.

The Wrap reports that The Dark Knight Rises has topped the foreign box office for the fifth consecutive week with a haul of $20.6 million. That takes its overseas total to an impressive $487 million, topping The Dark Knight's $469.7 million from all the way back in 2008. This also means that Christopher Nolan's third and final Batman movie will be the first big screen adaptation starring the Caped Crusader to earn more abroad than in North America. Despite facing stiff competition in international markets from the likes of Brave, The Bourne Legacy, The Expendables 2 and Total Recall, the threequel is now expected to hit the $900 million mark by tomorrow. It has yet to open in China, although it is expected by most to have no problem eventually hitting the $1 billion mark by the end of its run.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ "The Dark Knight Rises" is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster "The Dark Knight." The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

STARRING:

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman

Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon
Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox
Tom Hardy as Bane

proof that aurora really did hit this movie bad in the states. I read somewhere that if aurora didnt happen and this movie had opened with the additional $40-45 mil on the opening weekend and it had diminished with exactly the same ratios in the states that it would have hit 500 mil domestically by now.

The great thing is that batman is a global phenomenon that his appeal stretches from the US all the way to asia, africa and of course europe. Same with superman. And thanks to Nolan he is respected above all other franchises. And the actions and opinions of a few vocal die hard marvelites will not prevent it achieving its success.

This movie shows not even Christopher nolan knows the formula to a trilogy.

I'm getting really REALLY tired of these endless pointless articles giving a running commentary on how much the film has made week by week. Seriously, (apart from DC) who gives a toss?.

*shrugs*

Haters to TDKR are funny. First of all, there are no "plotholes" in the film, name one please and I'll explain it to you in terms you can understand...MAYBE understand I should say, lol. Secondly, to say Nolan's Batman films aren't how Batman is supposed to be is either one of two things: You don't understand that it's OK to have deviations from the comics, even though the comic deviate from THEMSELVES ALL THE TIME...or you're just a closed-minded "purist" who just looks for differences and can't enjoy supreme entertainment (awesome story, acting, AND visuals) for what it is. I feel sorry for you guys, but hey, most of the Batman fans are MORE than satisfied, so no skin off my grayson.
