The Wrap reports that The Dark Knight Rises has topped the foreign box office for the fifth consecutive week with a haul of $20.6 million. That takes its overseas total to an impressive $487 million, topping The Dark Knight's $469.7 million from all the way back in 2008. This also means that Christopher Nolan's third and final Batman movie will be the first big screen adaptation starring the Caped Crusader to earn more abroad than in North America. Despite facing stiff competition in international markets from the likes of Brave, The Bourne Legacy, The Expendables 2 and Total Recall, the threequel is now expected to hit the $900 million mark by tomorrow. It has yet to open in China, although it is expected by most to have no problem eventually hitting the $1 billion mark by the end of its run.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ "The Dark Knight Rises" is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster "The Dark Knight." The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.
