...and you might just be disappointed! Co-writers Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato have revealed the identity of 'Daniel West' and it appears as if his introduction has nothing to do with any secret plans to bring back fan favourite Flash, Wally West. Read on for details!

In a lengthy interview with Newsarama, The Flash creative team Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato have revealed exactly how Daniel West (introduced in last month's #0 issue) is connected to the West family. As you should already know, the significance of that name has a lot (everything?) to do with fan favourite Flash, Wally West; a character who is sadly missing from "The New 52" continuity. Unfortunately, the introduction of Daniel doesn't mean that DC are opening the door for Wally's eventual return...at least not yet! Check out the excerpt below and make sure to click on the link at the bottom of the page to read the Q&A in full.

Francis and Brian, DC called out the fact that Daniel West appeared in The Flash #0. Why was his appearance significant, and why was he specifically called a member of the "West family?"

Francis Manapul: Well, you only need two people to make a family. He's Iris' brother. I think we'll stop at that.

Brian Buccellato: Obviously, we get asked questions about the West family from time to time, and unfortunately, we always have the same answer. Daniel West and Iris are siblings. And that's the West family that's in the New 52 currently.

Currently. But it seems to open the door for more West family members, doesn't it?

Manapul: I guess that's open to interpretation.

OK, we'll leave it at that. But I know you guys are all about themes. How does Daniel West play into the themes of the story?

Manapul: With Daniel West, as you see in issue #0, he was arrested all those years ago, and now we've seen him resurface in Central City after he's finishing up his sentence. And he's trying to create a home for himself and trying to go back to his own life. And that's part of the running theme in the story. Coming home.

the first flash i knew was Wally West(through the Justice league tv series), i had no idea who Barry Allen was until i started reading the new 52, and even though i like Barry Allen still Wally West is my favorite flash,...... and i think Daniel west could be the father of wally west.... may be this is how they are going to introduce wally i guess....

dcjohnny, agreed. I grew up with Wally West, although once I started actually studying BARRY ALLEN'S origin, I kind of started liking him, but Wally is by far my favorite FLASH!

New 52 is DC's chance to uncomplicate things.

They should only have 1 Flash.

Barry Allen is the true Flash for me. He kicked off the silver age of comics and was the first to wear the red and yellow tights.

I primarily became a Flash fan with the 90's tv series, so I'm on the Barry Allen fan-train. Then again, I'm not enough of a DC reader to really have an opinion about any of the others. So I guess I'm just biased.

I am totally on board with Daniel being Wally's father. It makes so much sense. It would also be cool to see a brotherly relationship between Daniel and Barry so that if Daniel dies, it would make sense for Barry to be Wally's mentor. Either way, I hope Wally comes back, especially with what's going on with him on Young Justice right now!!!

I love Wally but let Barry have his time.Besides we've watched Wally grow from child to sidekick to hero to having a family and children...would u really wanna sour that by simply reducing him to a sidekick again? I don't wanna see Wally for at least 10 yrs.

Why not give Wally (were he to return) a new name/costume? So there's still only 1 Flash, but we have Wally!

I love Barry Allen, but he should still be dead. To write out Wally completely like they have - just heart breaking really.

Meh, I wish Barry had a personality. But he doesn't.

Wally had years of development. He was a bit of a douchy kid. But when it came time to take on the mantle of his hero, he matured and took responsibility. He was funny even a lot of times. I remember he looked up to Hal Jordan and had a bit of a problem with Kyle Rayner. Eventually they grew to trust each other and... blah blah blah. I could go on.

Point is, Wally is a much more fleshed out, well-developed and interesting character than Barry.

Arrrrgh I hate the no Wally thing. I tried reading the new 52, then I stopped, I'll consider buying it if Wally comes back. I can't stand Bart Allen at all...
