COMICS: Has Marvel Revealed The Identity Of THE SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN On New Variant?

While it's more than likely just ANOTHER red herring, two Dynamic Forces variant covers for Dan Slott and Ryan Stegman's The Superior Spider-Man #1 may just (again) reveal the identity of the character who will be behind the iconic mask next year.

Not too long ago, a Tweet from Dan Slott - which was supposed to be a "Direct Message" to artist Ryan Stegman - seemingly revealed that Miguel O'Hara (Spider-Man 2099) would be The Superior Spider-Man in the Marvel NOW! series. Since then, it has been theorised that the accidental Tweet was in fact just a red herring from the writer in an attempt to throw fans off the scent. If the events of Amazing Spider-Man #698 were anything to go by, it worked! However, a couple of Dynamic Forces variant covers for the first issues of the news series features Miguel in a couple of images which definitely seem to hint at him being the new Spidey. So, is this a big reveal or are Marvel and artist Ken Haeser just having fun with us? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

there it is...so is doc a different spidey then?
TrueRedBlue - 11/24/2012, 9:29 AM
I really hope it's just another one of his plots. I don't think Miguel's a good choice. Give me somebody new.
Spideyguy94 - 11/24/2012, 9:29 AM
This is just getting ridiculous. Miguels a great character and I'd love to see a new spider-man 2099 series written by Peter David, but not as the main spidey In the main spidey title.
JohnWilbanks - 11/24/2012, 9:30 AM
This is just a sketch cover variant. So basically the artist could have drawn Wolverine on the cover. I wouldn't read too much into this...
beane2099 - 11/24/2012, 9:42 AM
I want it to be Miggy. But this tells me it won't be.
Spidey31 - 11/24/2012, 9:48 AM
I think they should make someone new
Scabsallover - 11/24/2012, 9:50 AM
Fake. Who would authorize that cover?
BIGGGHEADTJ - 11/24/2012, 9:56 AM
I really think they should just make spiderman some one completely new like the did in the ultimate universe
jimpinto24 - 11/24/2012, 9:59 AM
I think it may be Miguel O'Hara. But at the same time Marvel could be having fun with us fans again.
Spideyguy94 - 11/24/2012, 10:17 AM
@LEVITIKUZ miles hasn't appeared in 616 yet. The closest miles has come to appearing in 616 is at the end of spider-men Peter googles his name and has a shocked expression on his face then the issue ends. And if anything he'll be older because most ultimate characters are younger than there 616 counterparts
spider1489 - 11/24/2012, 10:19 AM
YES YES !! F*CK YES PLEASE BE TRUE! :) , 200% better then doc oct being spider
StuckInPanels - 11/24/2012, 10:22 AM
@Levit and Spidey.....then that would mean that 616 Miles is white. Nothing wrong with that. I think that its a perfect set-up for Miguel to come back. He goes back in time and has to keep history from being destroyed by keeping the Spider-man legacy. January can't come soon enough
thefirstavenger97 - 11/24/2012, 10:23 AM
I'm done with this it's to annoying.
0ptimusCrime - 11/24/2012, 10:24 AM
[frick] this shit
MarkV - 11/24/2012, 10:32 AM
There should just be one spiderman
spider1489 - 11/24/2012, 10:32 AM
if it is miguel it will be interesting to see the reason why he comes back in time, how he adjusts to the old world, how he interacts with the avengers and other heroes , and how he gets involved with mj! im back on board for the superior spiderman! come guys you know pete will come back eventually just enjoy the ride
darkmetal - 11/24/2012, 10:33 AM
Marvel Comics sucks and theyre pretty stupid (Brand New Day, The Sentry, The Forgettable Death And Return Of The Torch, Avengers Disassembled, Spider-Man-The Other) but theyre not dumb enough to make that kind of mistake.
That art looks like a quick artist alley sketch. Even with Marvels low art standards, with a few exceptions,I would think a legit cover would get a full body pose.
Quesada has made them such as mess with all the retconning its going to be almost impossible to fix.
And they can put whomever in the suit and its just another gimmick.
fanboy03191 - 11/24/2012, 10:42 AM
I think it should be someone new; Not Doc Ock or Miguel O'Hara. Both great characters, but like someone else said, not as the main Spider-Man.
White - 11/24/2012, 10:43 AM
What is this shit?! Peter Parker is Spider-man... Thank god I quit reading this after Civil War event. All those reboots and shit is just not good. Not even ok or meh. Just shit. I was thinking that now they can make it right (Marvel NOW) after all those "Mephisto" and "Days" shit, but no.
Equivocal - 11/24/2012, 10:46 AM
so not only the story is crap...

so is the 'art' ...!!!

FAIL
SuperSomething616 - 11/24/2012, 11:00 AM
Hahaha how many people are going to fall for this!!!!
KarlKingNerd - 11/24/2012, 11:10 AM
Peter... Im not ready to let go of Pete...
KarlKingNerd - 11/24/2012, 11:12 AM
@Equivocal show off your marvel cover art before you trash someone elses, then we can rag on yours.
Parkerluckpersonified - 11/24/2012, 11:12 AM
I really wish it was Miguel but i doubt it. I don't understand why they won't just reveal it, everyone will know within 2 seconds of it either being announced or the comic being released. It's like they're just screwing with we fans for the heck of it.

Again, as long as it's not Miles....
Temple - 11/24/2012, 11:14 AM
Slott's tryna [frick] with our minds, haha. Just gotta keep on reading I suppose..
Jer3miah - 11/24/2012, 11:22 AM
I thought O'Hara was from the future?
RedandBlue - 11/24/2012, 11:31 AM
@Equivocal
The art won't be bad. They've already shown inside artwork. These are just variants.

Wish it was Peter, but things change. I'd be okay with Kaine, not Miguel.
Kaedus - 11/24/2012, 11:43 AM
Watch Dan Slott create a new character called Miguel Morales.
That way his Tweet was actually real, but the red herring was that everyone assumes it's O'Hara.
It's exactly what Slott would do after Alpha...
Alpha's called Andy Maguire as a mix of the names of the Spidey actors. He would easily create a new Spidey using a mix of names from 2 Spideys from different universes.
Not saying it'll happen, just a crazy, yet kind of plausible possibility :P
RedandBlue - 11/24/2012, 11:45 AM
^Badass find.
Kaedus - 11/24/2012, 11:58 AM
Yeah, that kid's name in the pic above will be Miguel Morales...the Superior Spider-Man :P
Spideyguy94 - 11/24/2012, 12:30 PM
@LEVITIKUZ that's in spider-man season one which is out of continuity
FlashhGordon27 - 11/24/2012, 12:46 PM
Do I get superior Spider-Man?
RobLiefeldFan - 11/24/2012, 12:49 PM
wanted miles
ironpool007 - 11/24/2012, 2:16 PM
I really want Miguel to be the new Spidey not Doc Ock
CrashTest - 11/24/2012, 2:27 PM
Peter Parker doesn't deserve an end like that, he has done WAY to much for the universe to go out like that. At least allow him to go out with a bang, and big bag! I really hope some how its not the end for him like that. He has to flip it some how.
CrashTest - 11/24/2012, 2:29 PM
@ SpidermanUltimate

It dose look like a 9yr old did the art. And I'll pass on Miguel.
Kaedus - 11/24/2012, 2:39 PM
Doc Ock switching with Peter isn't that Earth shattering.

At the moment it isn't a reboot, or a retcon, or whatever yet. It's just a villain performing a body swap and seemingly killing him. We've seen it before (Kraven's Last Hunt). The reboot will happen after this story. There's 2 issues left.
Sure, Pete may die. But he will go out winning. Amazing Spider-Man will not end with Pete dying in Ock's body and Ock just being Spidey for 2 more issues.
People who are panicking at this are reacting way too over the top. Give it 'til #700. If Pete goes out like a bitch then, then fair enough. But right now we're 2 issues away so there's still some story left to tell.
Kaedus - 11/24/2012, 2:41 PM
And when I say reboot I just mean the next story. Who knows where it'll go. I'm not happy about Pete not being Spidey but I don't think it'll be forever. If it turns out shit...dropped. Could be good though.
Sora - 11/24/2012, 3:53 PM
@Kaedus
Well said
RedandBlue - 11/24/2012, 5:03 PM
Well said Kaedus, although, Pete ain't no bitch, lol.
Plus the last issue is gonna be a little over 100 pgs., so there's a lot of story and a lot of things to happen.
sameoldthing - 11/24/2012, 5:40 PM
Unbelievable, you whiners act like Spidey should face no challenges or adversity, that nothing should EVER change the status quo.

Spider-Man shows up,punches bad guy & swings away!..Is that what you fools want?
You losers could NEVER create comics!

Let Peter/Spidey encounter peril & threats & read the adventures of him overcoming the odds.
Even if its someone else wearing his suit or in his body or whatever..its a story & in the end it should be interesting & fun.

Peter will be back..quit crying.
MarvelEPIC - 11/24/2012, 6:55 PM
@ sameoldthing:
So true, most people don't think about things like that.
dailycomicsfix - 11/24/2012, 6:56 PM

gosh 616 has fallen off the band wagon. spidey hasnt been good since before civil war.
mgeoff88 - 11/24/2012, 8:21 PM
The cover art for that makes it look fake. It just looks very cartoonish.

I think this is just the artist having fun with us.
blackster - 11/24/2012, 8:57 PM
i can't believe they're actually getting rid of peter parker for a temporary boost in sales.

mother[frick]ing talentless hacks.

they don't come like they used to in the old days.
the1stavenger - 11/24/2012, 10:03 PM
Spider-Man is Peter Parker/Peter Parker is Spider-Man... his witty bantor and overall personality is 99% of the superhero character. I hope (and doubt) Marvel would throw all of this all away. With its movie franchise taking off, and with all of the other Marvel Now! comics seemingly being in line with their aligned movie franchises, I agree with most; relax and enjoy the storyline... its going to be stressful but in the end you'll love it (I frickin' hope so, anyways)
XavierLehnsherr - 11/24/2012, 11:05 PM
Seriously, the movies are succeeding right now. WORST TIME EVER to kill the characters in the comics. What if fans loved Andrew Garfield and James Macavoy in the new movies, and went to buy the comics and saw that Peter Parker and Xavier are both gone?

Good going, Marvel.
lokipop - 11/25/2012, 8:36 AM
Okay everyone please calm down on these covers. They are quick sketch remark covers for Dynamic Forces by Ken Haeser (artist/creator The Living Corpse), NOT any kind of official variant. It could have just as easily been Batman drawn on them. I think it's awesome that all these news sites have been all up in arms about them. Research folks, research.
