THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Was The Most Popular Movie Trailer On YouTube In 2012

There are many Top 10 lists released at this time of year, and now YouTube have unveiled their "Top Trailers on YouTube for 2012" list. While Call of Duty: Black Ops II dominates, The Dark Knight Rises is the most popular trailer of 2012 with Skyfall not too far behind.

This isn't your typical Top 10 list in the respect that it features someone's favourite trailers; the data was instead compiled with the use of actual statistics. According to Collider, YouTube have looked at the view count, view rate (how much of the trailer people actually sit through) and organic views of each of the videos below in order to compile this list. As you can see, the latest instalment in the Call of Duty franchise dominates, but Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises is seemingly the most watched (or at least popular) movie trailer of 2012. Surprisingly, Sam Mendes' Skyfall also features heavily in this list, although shockingly there's no sign of such big releases as Marvel's The Avengers and The Amazing Spider-Man! What are your thoughts on these results?

1. CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS II – Surprise Trailer

2. CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS II – Reveal Trailer

3. THE DARK KNIGHT RISES – Official Trailer #3

4. SKYFALL – Official Trailer

5. TED – Official Trailer

6. THE HUNGER GAMES – Theatrical Trailer #2

7. REVOLUTION – Official Trailer

8. CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS II – Multiplayer Reveal Trailer

9. SKYFALL – Official Teaser Trailer

10. CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS II – Launch Trailer

prototype87 - 12/20/2012, 3:55 AM
you know why there's no sign about the Avengers trailer being the most watched trailer? because it's the most reuploaded trailer in youtube of 2012 baby!

SageMode - 12/20/2012, 3:58 AM
Josh, c'mon man. Really? Smh.........
Darth258 - 12/20/2012, 3:58 AM

marvel72 - 12/20/2012, 4:01 AM
it would be a totally different trailer list if you removed video games & just did movies.

youtube the avengers had 38,582,802 views so why ain't it on the list,i think someone is telling porky pies.

prototype87 - 12/20/2012, 4:02 AM
(Avengers trailers) - it spread-ed like wildfire.

JoshWilding - 12/20/2012, 4:05 AM
I noticed the same thing IronFan93! I can only assume that YouTube have combined every single view of each version of the video, although I'm not entirely sure! All it says is, "The 2012 YouTube Top Trailers Leaderboard celebrates the movie, TV, and gaming trailers that most moved audiences through a winning combination of promotion (paid ads) and popularity (organic views)." I mean, some of the trailers in this list have less than 10M views!
TheOneWhoKnocks - 12/20/2012, 4:05 AM
"YouTube have looked at the view count, view rate (how much of the trailer people actually sit through) and organic views of each of the videos below in order to compile this list"
Spideyguy94 - 12/20/2012, 4:05 AM
Someone's lying because ted has 18 million while TASM has 20 million and the avengers 38 million.
Darth258 - 12/20/2012, 4:06 AM
@prototype87: It might even be the most reuploaded trailer, yet that should've splitted the views on all those, but still the official one managed to have the greater number, as IronFan said.
Darth258 - 12/20/2012, 4:10 AM
Yeah, Youtube had some weird math going on making that list.
Asari - 12/20/2012, 4:12 AM
Didnt think much of TDKR... Think the hype was misplaced... Bring on Phase 2 and MoS!!
marvel72 - 12/20/2012, 4:15 AM
as much as i hate the twilight movies, why ain't that trailer on the list.

teenage girls love flicking the bean to that shit.
avengersleagueofjusticeforamerica - 12/20/2012, 4:30 AM
Hmmmmm false journalism. Great way to ruin your rep josh. Lol not that you're not all over any tdkr news no matter how stupid or trivial.
JoshWilding - 12/20/2012, 4:33 AM
Not false at all. This is the OFFICIAL YouTube list which has also been posted by several other site (such as Collider who we link to in the main body of the article).
Spideyguy94 - 12/20/2012, 4:43 AM
Josh you are incredibly hypocritical. You put on your Xmas wish list no more flame wars, yet in the last few days I've seen you put that same picture up with flame war on while saying things like let's do this at least 2 or 3 times.
GiantNerd0720 - 12/20/2012, 5:04 AM
Seriously. This is even starting to annoy me now.

People please be smart and ignore bullshit articles like these. They don't even deserve to be relevant.
IgnurRant - 12/20/2012, 5:05 AM
Of coursh.
kadetra - 12/20/2012, 5:11 AM
the most popular movie trailer on youtube, yet it sold less tickets than the avengers.
avengersleagueofjusticeforamerica - 12/20/2012, 5:19 AM
This movie is the turd that just won't flush. Then you got the people who stare at the turd swirl in circles around the bowl. Josh my friend, you are one of those people. Bring on phase 2 and superman man of steel!
avengersleagueofjusticeforamerica - 12/20/2012, 5:20 AM
Hmmmmm, this so called "flamewar" has turned into more of a witch hunt lmao
silverdog - 12/20/2012, 5:24 AM
lol.. desperate much to find any excuse to revindicate Nolan's fiasco?

according to your "logic"; Gangnam Style was the best song of the year, and Here Comes Honey Boo Boo the best tv show....

nice try, but this is almost as pathetic as the thousand "for your consideration" posters begging for an award nomination.
didich - 12/20/2012, 5:29 AM
Oscar for the best trailer confirmed...

But, seriously, I donßt think anzone cares about this.
thespiderkat - 12/20/2012, 5:31 AM
so batman became as mainstream as justin beiber and "call me maybe".... hardly a reason to celebrate.
Darkknight23 - 12/20/2012, 5:33 AM
This is ridiculous...
Newbus - 12/20/2012, 5:36 AM
If the previous days fake polls aren't a clue as to whats happening I dont know what is.
GUNSMITH - 12/20/2012, 5:38 AM
ALSO ON YOUTUBE...

Happy11 - 12/20/2012, 5:38 AM
The 48 million views for ironman3 is just marvel channel upload so there are other channels which have uploaded certain trailers so read the article again it's totals and so all channels and who have watched a certain amount are yous honestly going to argue with YouTube because you preferred one movie over another grow up and lets stop this marvel vs dc crap.
mgeoff88 - 12/20/2012, 5:47 AM
The Avengers was the most popular movie in 2012.*drops mic*
Battabing - 12/20/2012, 5:52 AM
Will somebody please change all these Marvel fans' bloody tampons?
Sora - 12/20/2012, 5:54 AM
A real waste of an article
just a poor excuse to add fuel to the "Avengers vs TDKR" fire
avengersleagueofjusticeforamerica - 12/20/2012, 5:56 AM
happy11
no marvel vs dc stuff going on. You're a lame ass for chalking it up to that. Get bent. We are saying quit posting the most rediculous news for this abortion of a film. If its news worthy fine. But this is just nuthugging, obnoxious canon fodder.
marvel72 - 12/20/2012, 5:56 AM
@ Battabing

only if you remove the nolan endorsed butt plug from your arse. :D
avengersleagueofjusticeforamerica - 12/20/2012, 5:58 AM
Nomis, you are a troll, and a cowboys fan( a testiment of your stupidity ). Your weak ass celebration has fallen on deaf ears.
gleetana - 12/20/2012, 5:59 AM
yeah, the trailer was good. the movie not so much. another Prometheus.

still, cant wait for Wilding's editorial on TDKR merchandise selling more keychains and mousepads than any other movie this year... and why it should get an oscar for that.
TheShape727 - 12/20/2012, 6:10 AM
Regardless of what trailer had more views, TDKR takes the cake for top CBM film with Avengers following it.
mgeoff88 - 12/20/2012, 6:10 AM
@Nomis I really enjoyed TDKR, but it felt very rushed and convoluted in some spots. I was expecting a bit more with the last movie tbh.

The Avengers was a huge risk that payed off. No other CBM has ever done a team-up ensemble film like that. And it was greatly executed IMO. That's why The Avenger is my #1 CBM to date.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. :)
lucio7lopez - 12/20/2012, 6:11 AM
Too much haters here. Is only youtube, not big deal anyway.
Spideyguy94 - 12/20/2012, 6:18 AM
@Marvel72 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA well done sir.
