THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Was The Most Popular Movie Trailer On YouTube In 2012

There are many Top 10 lists released at this time of year, and now YouTube have unveiled their "Top Trailers on YouTube for 2012" list. While Call of Duty: Black Ops II dominates, The Dark Knight Rises is the most popular trailer of 2012 with Skyfall not too far behind.

This isn't your typical Top 10 list in the respect that it features someone's favourite trailers; the data was instead compiled with the use of actual statistics. According to Collider, YouTube have looked at the view count, view rate (how much of the trailer people actually sit through) and organic views of each of the videos below in order to compile this list. As you can see, the latest instalment in the Call of Duty franchise dominates, but Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises is seemingly the most watched (or at least popular) movie trailer of 2012. Surprisingly, Sam Mendes' Skyfall also features heavily in this list, although shockingly there's no sign of such big releases as Marvel's The Avengers and The Amazing Spider-Man! What are your thoughts on these results?

it would be a totally different trailer list if you removed video games & just did movies.

youtube the avengers had 38,582,802 views so why ain't it on the list,i think someone is telling porky pies.

I noticed the same thing IronFan93! I can only assume that YouTube have combined every single view of each version of the video, although I'm not entirely sure! All it says is, "The 2012 YouTube Top Trailers Leaderboard celebrates the movie, TV, and gaming trailers that most moved audiences through a winning combination of promotion (paid ads) and popularity (organic views)." I mean, some of the trailers in this list have less than 10M views!

@prototype87: It might even be the most reuploaded trailer, yet that should've splitted the views on all those, but still the official one managed to have the greater number, as IronFan said.

Not false at all. This is the OFFICIAL YouTube list which has also been posted by several other site (such as Collider who we link to in the main body of the article).

The 48 million views for ironman3 is just marvel channel upload so there are other channels which have uploaded certain trailers so read the article again it's totals and so all channels and who have watched a certain amount are yous honestly going to argue with YouTube because you preferred one movie over another grow up and lets stop this marvel vs dc crap.

yeah,the trailer was good. the movie not so much. another Prometheus.

still, cant wait for Wilding's editorial on TDKR merchandise selling more keychains and mousepads than any other movie this year... and why it should get an oscar for that.

Regardless of what trailer had more views, TDKR takes the cake for top CBM film with Avengers following it.

@Nomis I really enjoyed TDKR, but it felt very rushed and convoluted in some spots. I was expecting a bit more with the last movie tbh.

The Avengers was a huge risk that payed off. No other CBM has ever done a team-up ensemble film like that. And it was greatly executed IMO. That's why The Avenger is my #1 CBM to date.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. :)
