@Starsapphire, It helps to shape their personalities. They feel responsible for not being able to save their loved ones so they try to save others. It's carthetic. In addition the lack of social ties makes it easier to put oneself in harms way. That is why I became CAPATAIN SWEEEAAAT PAAAAANTSSSS! (yes that was a hiss at the end, lol)

Actually, you would be surprised as to why so many super-heroes have the origins they do.

Take Superman for example. Superman in a nutshell, is an illegal immigrant (from another planet) trying to fit into an adopted culture. He lost his father (twice; Jor-El then Jonathan Kent) and is bulletproof.

Both Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster were the sons of immigrants, and Jerry Siegel lost his father to a heart attack while he was being robbed. This was about a year before the creation of Superman, who was invulnerable and could not be harmed. You could see how the events of their lives influenced their creations. So much did loosing his father affect him, that Siegel's Superman lost TWO fathers.

Both Siegel and Shuster are Jewish. The name Kal-El is a loose translation of the hebrew "Voice of God"

@InstigatorGIRL - Going back to the Disney thing...as the story goes, Walt Disney felt responsible for the death of his mother. He bought her a new home in north Hollywood which apparently had a faulty furnace. She died of carbon monoxide poisoning. Therefore the absence of one parent was his way of providing empathy for children who had lost a parent.

I've Been a Green Lan' fan for years now - and if they'd made this film any earlier It could have been a real mess.
But it all looks Fab, and I'm totally buzzed for this movie
