Robert Rodriguez has just finished Predators and is now busy promoting Machete which stars Danny Trejo. MTV caught up with him to see where his involvement is in Deadpool.

"They sent me a script to read, [but] I've been really swamped with this other stuff," Rodriguez said. "I've not decided whether ... anything I do would be after 'Spy Kids' — that gives some breathing room. So whether or not I would help develop or not is the question right now."

The script is still being worked on but Rodriguez likes the early version that he has seen. "It was really good. It wasn't supposed to be sent out, it was one of those early drafts, they were probably like 'Robert just finished 'Predators,' let's see what he thinks at this early stage' ... I got an early sneak peek at it."

The director is a big fan of Ryan Reynolds being heavily involved with the writers and confirms Reynolds' Deadpool will break the fourth wall and talk to the audience.

It would appear that all the stars would have to align just right for Rodriguez to helm this movie if it is to stay on course for a possible 2012 debut.

sweetre15 - 7/22/2010, 10:04 PM
Awesome find and just the fact that they are looking at him as a possible director choice is proof that they are going in the right direction

On a side note, this looks like a good choice Deadpool
sweetre15 - 7/22/2010, 10:19 PM
Since I liked Predators and Sin City (in which Rodriguez did alot of the heavy lifting) and Planet Terror,I think he's a good combination to go with a Zombieland writers' script. But this is a step in the right direction IMO
RockNRollCC - 7/22/2010, 10:21 PM
PLEASE Rob Rod, dont do another Spy Kids!!! It's not needed! PLEASE DO DEADPOOL!!!
Ironbat95 - 7/22/2010, 10:30 PM
@rocknroll if u watched the full live interview that was online earlier, he says that between his action films like sin city and Machete, he likes to do a family film in between because its like him going on a family vacation. I understand why he does that and once he finishes that, he will go straight to work on his next adult oriented project like Deadpool
TANKGIRL - 7/22/2010, 10:33 PM

@MarsAmbassador: Predators
RedDevil - 7/22/2010, 10:58 PM
Deadpool would be so risky and tough to bring to film. Ryan is great for Deadpool but it's just the concept that kinda bothers me. Some audiences might find the Fourth Wall confusing, and I know it is meant to be a comedic substance for Deadpool cus he basically epidomizes fun and jokes but there are just so many audiences who will find it wierd and so many audiences who will love it.
spiderman620 - 7/22/2010, 11:22 PM

marvel72 - 7/22/2010, 11:52 PM
@ dogsofwar cool bit of info, but he should [frick] spy kids off.
if not give it to any of these fine directors matthew vaughn, quentin tarantino or jj abrams.
LEEE777 - 7/23/2010, 3:09 AM
As long as its not a BORIGINS spin off and the REAL DEADPOOL, I ain't bothered too much, oh and I think REYNOLDS needs another cbm coz CHRIS EVANS has taken the lead! : D

marvel72 - 7/23/2010, 3:35 AM
@ leee777 never seen that picture before,[frick]ing cool.
i've just purchased the deadpool corps just waiting for them to be delivered.
RorMachine - 7/23/2010, 3:38 AM
Sweetre15, RR didn't direct Predators, and anyway, in no way did that exceed expectations!

Like I'v always said, until this tool directs a proper movie(aside from Sin City) he's a hack to me.
LEEE777 - 7/23/2010, 4:14 AM
deadpool72 @ Yeah I just drew it (jk) heh heh, yeah I've never seen it either (just found it) gotta agree with ya dude!

Cool, gotta get the DEADPOOL CORPS myself!
CorndogBurglar - 7/23/2010, 4:19 AM
Spy Kids seems like the logical choice to me...
Shaman - 7/23/2010, 4:45 AM
I can totally understand why people want him for this particular film. I hate his directing very much but i'll admit, it could fit this character's style. Thing is, a handful of tremendously more talented directors that would also be a lot less busy than him could do a great job. Probably even better. Well i say get better. Fox needs to get back in the game with great CBMs here, not Baysplosions.
LEEE777 - 7/23/2010, 5:11 AM
SHAMAN @ Well said buddy, totally right!

Can't wait to see MACHETE!
antz1104 - 7/23/2010, 5:41 AM
I'll be onboard w/ him doing Deadpool after I see Machete. Def agree his style fits the character.
agentofshield - 7/23/2010, 5:47 AM
haha Machete..thats going to be a great damn movie!!

Im really hoping deadpool comes out in 2012!! CANT WAIT!!
ElBicho - 7/23/2010, 5:50 AM
@LEEE777

Deadpool Corps is freakin' awesome!
Destroyer14 - 7/23/2010, 6:04 AM
Personally, I am not a huge fan of Deadpool. I would rather they work on X-Men 4.
BmanHall - 7/23/2010, 6:11 AM
Spy Kids over Deadpool? Whatever, he's not the only director out there. We could always get Bret Ratner...

Jojo- X1 and X2 were great to me. Hell i even liked Daredevil. If it hadn't been for that playground scene, the whole film would have been as good as the X-films. So judging that Fox hasn't made anything "great" since X2 then yes they should work at getting back in the game to win.
sweetre15 - 7/23/2010, 7:43 AM
@MarsAmbassadors:Well,I really think Rodriguez is as good as the scripts he's given and I'd give him the benefit of the doubt with this simply because who can go wrong on a Deadpool script written by the Zombieland writers, lol?

Also because his other movies seem to fit the style required for Deadpool.
rolanddeschain - 7/23/2010, 7:56 AM
I was fired up about this from reading the title, but after seeing what he said.....I mean, c'mon, you'd rather bring out another fuggin' spy kids movie, b4 making DEADPOOL!!!??? you gotta be fuggin' kiddin' me!! shouldn't the spy 'kids' be adults by now?! & how many of those were already made?! this jackass knows how long the people have been waiting for deadpool, it makes perfect sense $ wise to make that b4 another damn spykids(who nobody was even thinking about) movie. Dude just lost major points with me.
MatchesMalone - 7/23/2010, 8:20 AM
Deadpool is soooo overrated, imo. Give me my damn Madman movie already, Rodriguez!
Weeton - 7/23/2010, 9:29 AM
if this movie just had to be made...i guess "that'll do pig, that'll do."
LEEE777 - 7/23/2010, 9:30 AM
EL @ Wicked! ; )

SHAMAN @ I totally agree, after X3 and BORIGINS we need amazing MARVEL movies from FOX!
Shaman - 7/23/2010, 9:41 AM
LEEE777- Tell you the truth bud, i just saw Wolverine for the first time last week. I thought you were just over-reacting all this time for nothing but man... it was complete SHYTE!!! And i'm not even talking about the liberties taken. The film making looked amature!!! Pacing was way off, dialog sucked ass and the plot... gawd it all looked thrown in like someone was making a freakin' salad!!! It was really one of the worse movies i have seen so far. Ratner's X-film was a masterpiece next to Gavin's fart!!!
MatchesMalone - 7/23/2010, 9:43 AM
@Shaman- Not to mention the super dodgy cgi. I really hope you didn't pay any money to see it.
jjmeylar - 7/23/2010, 9:51 AM
He's got a new film with Danny Trejo and a new "Spy Kids". Odd.
Superman4 - 7/23/2010, 11:44 AM
NJdevil12 - 7/23/2010, 12:07 PM
so if the Deadpool rights ever went back to Marvel they wouldnt be able to use Reynolds? though i guess by the time it did he'd be to old huh..
bababoozer - 7/23/2010, 2:54 PM
If he does direct it will be shocking if Rose McGowan is cast.......as someone.....
Bandrews1 - 7/23/2010, 3:03 PM
I really hope he considers this, I think he's a good choice for this. I'm sure no one gives a [frick] about another Spy Kids movie.
AsianAvenger - 7/23/2010, 3:08 PM
I think he should direct it. His movies (Predators, Sin City, From Dusk Til Dawn, etc.) have that feel that make me think he could make Deadpool epic.
Bandrews1 - 7/23/2010, 3:08 PM
@AsianAvenger I agree.
AlexDeLarge87 - 7/23/2010, 4:32 PM
NO SPY SH*TS!!! BRING ON DEADPOOL!! Dont let us down like Del Toro did when he said he is going to direct Disney´s produced horror movie named Haunted Mansion before Dr. Strange, Deadman or Hellboy 3!!
13Deadpool13 - 7/23/2010, 5:22 PM
well leee77 let's not forget that ryan reynolds also has the Hannibal king under his belt from Blade trinity. which a long time ago he was interested in doing a spin off for that character too, obviously it never happened though. lol. plus they made a comic about smokin aces. So he's not too far behind
Ryguy88 - 7/24/2010, 11:40 AM
Desperado and Once Apon a Time in Mexico were good movies and better than Sin City imo, so he's directed at least 3 good movies and in no way a "hack." If you don't like his directing style that's cool, but come on.
vxMaverickxv - 7/24/2010, 10:34 PM
Plz plz sign on Rob. We need you!!!
theaceofknaves - 7/25/2010, 2:49 AM
wow some of the comments on here are funny.

So Rodriguez is a poor director because he doesn't have financially or critically amazing movies in his locker?

Oh ok... so John Carpenter is a hack too yea? lol

Seriously, Robert Rodrigeuz is like the modern day John Carpenter. He makes movies that don't appeal to mainstream audiences and "high brow" film critics. And that is fine by me. He makes the films he wants to make. He doesn't make films to recieve awards or garner massive critical praise.

The guy deserves a lot of respect. Whether you like his style or not is irrelevent. The guy made El Mariachi for 7 grand. He made the opening scene of Sin City with his own money to try and get Frank Miller, Bruce Willis and Mickey Rourke on board... and they accepted... and have worked with him multiple times ever since.

That's what we need for Deadpool. A director who has the balls to go "out there". And also someone who can manage a budget. Rodriguez is an expert at that. You give him 40-50 million dollars and he'll make you a great Deadpool movie. He wouldn't need hundres of millions like some other directors.

Rodriguez is the modern day master of big(ish) budget B-Movies.

And about the Spy Kids stuff? Let the guy do what he wants. He has always said he likes to do a kids film in between all the gory action movies he does.
