Original THUNDERCATS Concept Art Surfaces

Some original never before seen concept art for the first run of Thundercats surfaces. Hit the jump for a look!

About 50 pieces of concept art were posted on a Thundercats board by a poster called LiarDice Films, who got hold of some art from the Original Thundercats Cartoon Series. The art was created by Jim Meskimen, a voice actor who has appeared in numerous projects such as G.I. Joe Renegades, Avatar: The Last Air Bender, and Justice League as well as numerous video games. Jim is also known as a fantastic illustrator. According to the original poster, Jim was the sole U.S. artist working with Rankin Bass. Some of his work made it into the television show as well as other media. Some of the ideas were never used.

ThunderCats is an animated television series that was produced by Rankin/Bass Productions debuting in 1984, based on the characters created by Tobin "Ted" Wolf. The series follows the adventures of a group of cat-like humanoid aliens lead by Lion-O (voiced by Larry Kenney).

Not to be cruel but they all seem so amateur and poor...i hope nothing gets made with these images, seem soo much better works done in 3D from fans

@Juwon---Did you read the headline? CONCEPT ART for the ORIGINAL Thundercats. Concept art is usually crude because ITS A CONCEPT.

Aside from that, Some of these characters did get used.
Captain Cracker, Pumm ra(Mumm-ra turned into a Thundercat one ep), Cladus, Nemex,Wizz Ra and there is a character that looks like Inflammer but he had a different name.

Would have liked to have seen what could be done with that "Nemex" character.
