I don't understand why some people believe creativity and originality are the same thing.Just because something isn't original, that doesn't mean it's not creative.Same as just because something is original, it doesn't means it's actually creative.

Look at the Star Trek movie. That was a reboot of an old concept.Did that make the movie any less creative?Rise of the Planet of the Apes was also a reboot of an old concept.Did that make it any less creative?

Like Hellsing pointed out, Moore has used established literary characters in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen for over a decade. That's one of his most notable works. He found news ways to use those characters. Is that not creative?

As far as comics, yes their a business. What do you expect? For the fans, it's about the characters and I for one am glad to see those characters finally getting there own one-shots:) My question to Alan Moore is, besides commenting about it, what do you plan to do to fill the vacuum of talent? I can say I don't see how you can stand up to it or prove the establishment wrong by just being interviewed. I would like to see Alan Moore put his money where his mouth is and I'd like to Help:) I'm an Illustrator and Writer, and I'm about to start doing just that.

As far his comments about the entertainment industry, It's about speed and figuring out ways to pay people as little as possible. Look at reality shows, you don't have to pay writers wages, or actors wages, the cameras are cheap and there is no talent just people making fools of themselves, but it doesn't cost that much to keep it on the air, so it stays whether anyone watches it or not.

Call me crazy, but I agree with him. I think that Moore's point it's expressed here: "It’s a finite series". At least for me it is, I really don't care for prequels or sequels. I cared for the characters in the frame of the Watchmen arc story and I doubt I'll care for them in this prequels and less alone with different writers. But that's just my opinion.

The man is continuously and predictably ridiculous. I enjoy a lot of his stories, but there's always the misogynous undertones - and he really seems to enjoy writing violence against women. Notice as well how the women in his stories are depicted as clueless, unintelligent, and victimized.

I have in my collection, a trade printing of a dozen stories he contributed to DC back in the 80s.
In Superman (a what-if story) - he kills Lana.
In Green Arrow - he has Black Canary shot and badly hurt.
In Green Lantern - he has Katma Tui waste time and Arisia is more or less told a bedtime story by Tomar Re.
In Omega Men - he has a female scientist mistakenly agree to what she thinks is sex with another species, but is really killed as a part of this species rite of passage.
In Vigilante - a mother is beaten and stabbed to death, and a prostitute is butchered.
In Batman - Clayface goes batty over a mannequin who he imagines is unfaithful to him, and of course, the Joker paralyzes Barbara with a gunshot before beating her in the nude.

Look at V For Vendetta - Evey is a moron, and in Watchmen Laurie is kind of short on intellect herself. From Hell's FOCUS is on "Jack the Ripper" and the brutal murders of prostitutes.

Just some observations. I think he's too proud of himself.

When the basics of a story gets used to create something new I call that 'the natural evolution of material'.

You can see it in everything. It's the way it works. That's why when something completely original pops up, it's magical.

He right in domes cases. But bitter in the majority

As Moore says Watchmen was a 'finite story'. Before Watchmen attempts to expand and explain the characters further.

A bad idea that is totally unnecessary.

Calling Moore a hypocrite because he worked on other long running titles or The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen has missed the point.

The long running titles have always existed as ever spiralling periodical titles where every writer and artist has 'had a go'. That is how they were designed and thats how they are meant to be.

The TLOEG is a title that took a multitude of literary characters and shoe-horned them into a distinct universe that previously didn't exist. An original tale with pre-existing characters with a 'what-if' scenario.

Before Watchmen isn't part of a long running series, nor is it a 'what-if' scenario. It takes Moores original characters and does what the hell it wants with them without his imput.

Moore is such a [frick]ing hypocrite. What characters of his are original? Each character from Watchmen were originally going to be based off of older comics. Dr. Manhatten was origianlly supposed to be Captain Atom, Nite-Owl was Blue Beetle, and so forth..... Moore you are such a joke. You have been given your dream job of writing comics for a living something thousands of others would kill for a chance at (including myself) and you complain because the publisher likes your stories and wants to make more of them?????? What an asshole. Seriously.

damn alan moore is awesome!

Capt. Crunch is ANOTHER Johnny Depp movie I will never ever pay to see...
Although I might pay to see Andy Serkis Mo-Cap the Dig 'Em frog from Sugar Smacks...

but, the guy's got a point... come on, Battleship?

When's that Johnny Depp movie coming out?

But really, the reason people are up in arms over this is because to those people Watchmen is a sacred topic. It would have been like telling a 9/11 joke on 9/12. Even today, some people would find such a joke deplorable, but the number of those diminishes as time passes. After a certain amount of time Watchmen will enter the public canon of stories. If this series was being made then, not many people would have cared, as evidenced by the fact that no one was concerned over the use of characters in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, or novelist Gregory Maguire's take on the Wizard of Oz, Wicked.

As for myself, I'm not particularly interested in this new series. But instead of complaining, I'm going to vote with my wallet and just not buy it.
