Disney Moving Forward With ALICE IN WONDERLAND Sequel

The Tim Burton-directed CG animated/live action fantasy film released in 2010 was a huge hit for Walt Disney Pictures, and it seems they are eager for a follow-up, as they hired a writer of the first film to pen the script. More after the jump.

Back in 2010, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland was a huge hit for the studio, making more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office. It also won Oscars for art direction and costume design. So, of course, they are hoping to make a follow-up and they hired Linda Woolverton to write the script. Woolverton wrote the first film, and she also worked on classic animated film like Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King.

Disney has a couple of big budget fanatasy films coming up, including Sam Raimi's Oz the Great and Powerful (which visually looks a lot like Alice in Wonderland) in 2013, Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie in 2014, and they are also devolping projects like Cinderella and Magic Kingdom.

There is no word on whether Tim Burton will return to direct the sequel.

Thta is so [frick]ing stupid. What the [frick] would the plot be? And there's no way it's gonna be Burton again. It better not be, anyway. With Dark Shadows and Frankenweenie, he's just starting to rediscover himself and as such redeem himself again.
Depp will probably be back, though. He did do all those Pirates sequels and is still on board Lone Ranger despite not being happy the lack of Verbinski.

me and my bro sat back and watched this with a nice fat bowl packed.

we really started to enjoy it and thought " hey tim burton may be back in his groove"

then the depp started dancing i screamed "THATS IT I'M OUT" stood up and said "tim burton, YOU ARE OUTTA HERE!"

I'll wait and see how Oz and the others you mentioned are first. Would the movie be pretty well received if it didn't have that dancing scene? Way too many people bitch about that 5 seconds that I always forget about.

Yes, Alice in Wonderland was the first book and Alice Through the Looking Glass was the sequel. But Burton's film was actually based more on Looking Glass than Wonderland.
Not sure about a sequel, didn't mind the first film, though.

I'm a huge Burton fan, but no! What are they gonna do? Burton made his semi-comeback with Frankenweenie, which was really good.

No thank you. As with most of Burtons films from the last decade it was a wase of my life. Love the original Disney film but will almost certainly be skipping this

Hollywood has become obsessed with finding ways to make unnecessary sequels and prequels to movies that don't require them or for idiots who just don't know when to stop paying to see slight variations of the same damn movie.

A lesson in integrity is needed badly.

The last movie was nonsensical tripe, even for an adaptation of "Alice in Wonderland".

And you just know that they're just gonna milk Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter to hell and back.

I am still waiting for a Tim Burton movie aside from Batman that doesn't make me want to projectile vomit in disgust. The movies are all the same. Goth or steam punk look, white face paint makeup, Helena Bonham Carter, Johnny Depp and a Danny Elfman score

I liked that weird ass movie. Got it for 4.99 when blockbuster was going out. I love the girl who plays Alice. I'm down to watch a new one in theaters.

I'm already willing to give them my money. Loved the first one and I don't see why this one wouldn't be just as good.
