When Bruce Wayne returns from being trapped in the past this fall, the Caped Crusader will be brought back into the spotlight by writer Grant Morrison. In Batman, Inc. we'll see the "franchising" of the Dark Knight who will train and command a team of heroes including Dick Grayson, Knight and Squire, El Gaucho and eight others who'll then also wear his colours.

The LA Times quizzed Morrison about the upcoming series (all of which you can find by clicking the link at the bottom of the article) but perhaps most interesting was the two exclusive pieces of art they had, including the one above, which feature the return of the classic yellow symbol on the costume.

Here's what Grant Morrison had to say about Bruce Wayne's new costume as well as what he thinks of some of the live action interpretations: "All the costumes have been in constant change...You look at the difference between the costume tights that Adam West wore and the gay disco armor that was in "Batman Forever" compared to the modern, militaristic thing that Christopher Nolan does. They are all completely different but they are all instantly recognizable as Batman."

What do you think about the new costume and direction of the Batman comic books? Would you like to see a suit more like this one in Batman 3? Share your thoughts in the usual place!

Great find Josh!

I dunno about the yellow symbol coming back. I really like the big black bat better.
ThaMessenger07 - 8/10/2010, 11:21 AM
I love this Costume. I always thought that the suit should have been Charcole Grey in Nolans Batman movies. With Black Cape/Cowl, Gloves, Boots, Bat Symbol, and Utility Belt.
TheBlacksmith - 8/10/2010, 11:22 AM
@Grif, yeah something along the lines of the Arkham Asylum game would be cool.

gandalf550 - 8/10/2010, 11:23 AM
Okay I guess.
Rango - 8/10/2010, 11:24 AM
@Grif n TheBlackSmith

the grey and Black suit wud require a bulky mascular pumped up body like wwe's batista!!!
peralta - 8/10/2010, 11:26 AM
when i read the headline i had to check it out, it looks cool i like the black and yellow symbol, 5 bucks says someone wont like it AND say frick this or what ever it is you dudes say around here
SHAZAM171 - 8/10/2010, 11:28 AM
@Eviltwin - Agreed... 100%.
Shaman - 8/10/2010, 11:29 AM
I actually LOVE it!!! Very reminiscent of Tim Burton's first design, only grey! Like it should be! I will agree that so far, the best suit ever IS the Arkham Asylum one. But i really enjoy the dark yellow in the oval insignia :)
bababoozer - 8/10/2010, 11:30 AM
There's nothing creative about it. It's not bad, but to call it "new"? How about "re-imagined"? lol
JoshWilding - 8/10/2010, 11:31 AM
I've enjoyed most of Grant Morrison's Batman work so far (Batman And Robin has been excellent apart from the Jason Todd arc) but I'm not sure about this whole "franchising" idea! So, there'll be more than one Batman!?! Hmmm...

Either way, I think this new costume looks great! It's nice to see the yellow symbol back for a change although I was perfectly fine with the black one that's been around for a few years now! Would it work in Chris Nolan's movies? I doubt it!
FoxForce5 - 8/10/2010, 11:32 AM
I would LOVE to see something more along these lines for a movie but I won't be holding my breath anytime soon.
sagekilz - 8/10/2010, 11:34 AM
just stop
rodsvilaca - 8/10/2010, 11:36 AM
But he's WITH or WITHOUT the Trunk/Short????
naterator - 8/10/2010, 11:37 AM
i give it two thumbs up!!!... i like it...and think it would be awesome to see this in the next movie.....but perhaps have the new bat design encased in a oval with gray instead of yellow.
batmbl - 8/10/2010, 11:37 AM
I prefer the no yellow symbol accents...when he has the yellow accents it takes away some of the stealth that he has naturally otherwise during the night...I'm in agreement the Arkham Asylum costume is the best so far...it's nolenesque only with the grey bodysuit like the comic books...
shawnb - 8/10/2010, 11:38 AM
I don't know... I always liked the 80's Batman suit. Old school classic blue and grey!
StuckInPanels - 8/10/2010, 11:40 AM
so is this Bruce or Dick's new Batman outfit?
Stumblin - 8/10/2010, 11:41 AM
New? How is this new?
villain001 - 8/10/2010, 11:42 AM
whats up with the symbol in front? is he a damn bmw? symbol is too pretty... needs to be rough and rugged and combat ready like in Dark Knight, it was suttle and not LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME!
Shaman - 8/10/2010, 11:42 AM
Yeah, if it works in Arkham Asylum, it can work on screen. I really don't see why pitch black is manditory. The Batman vs Alien short & the latest one which i can't remember the title, proved it perfectly. The suit can still be made of a metal aloy, it doesn't need to be spandex.
ROMACK - 8/10/2010, 11:43 AM
I like it. It makes sense. The yellow symbol on his chest is there to draw fire away from his face which is exposed and vulnerable.
OdinsBeard - 8/10/2010, 11:43 AM
grif@ totally!
ROMACK - 8/10/2010, 11:46 AM
Yeah an alloy mesh and kevlar in charcoal would work well. I am very happy to see the Yellow Bat symbol back where it belongs.
GreenIronBatdude - 8/10/2010, 11:52 AM
It looks cool. I don't really think it would work in the Nolan movies though, mabye if it looked more armoured and stuff. I never really liked the yellow oval, I guess it works if it draws fire away from his face etc. but he's Batman, he shouldn't be drawing fire because he is so stealthy.
LEEE777 - 8/10/2010, 11:52 AM
WTF, its weird you doing DC man!

I still feel like I'm in the TWILIGHT ZONE lol! ; P

skidz - 8/10/2010, 11:58 AM
Other than the belt, what's so 'new' about it? If DC wanted a new look for Batman, they should've talked to the costume designer for Nolan's films.
ShadowMan - 8/10/2010, 12:03 PM
So Batman's new costume is his old costume, lame.
superman7 - 8/10/2010, 12:05 PM
I F*CKING HATE THE YELLOW CIRCLE! It's counter to Batman hiding in the shadows!
meeseface - 8/10/2010, 12:10 PM
Although the yellow symbol would look great(in a nostalgic way), they should stick with the black symbol
AsianAvenger - 8/10/2010, 12:15 PM
It looks amazing!!!
JoshWilding - 8/10/2010, 12:19 PM
LEE: Lol, it's crazy isnt it? I know I used to report on the odd bit of DC news here and there but it feels weird to now actually know what I'm talking about! :D I plan on reading the first volume of "The Sinestro Corps War" tonight...oh, and I'm reading most of the Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman titles on a regular basis via weekly issues as well!
jbender - 8/10/2010, 12:22 PM
Wearing a target on your chest makes alot of sense...
113 - 8/10/2010, 12:24 PM
It looks great...Although I like Nolan's Batsuit the most..I like the more realistic military looking costume that Nolan created..But for the comics, I love the above costume.
Protonite - 8/10/2010, 12:30 PM
@superman7 - I somewhat agree. Whoever thought it'd be a good idea to put a bright yellow symbol dead-center on the chest of a man who's supposed to be 'not seen'? And the "drawing fire away from his face" argument is a bit strange. This is Batman. Kevlar or not, he shouldn't be drawing any kind of fire anywhere on his body, that's part of his whole ninja training, isn't it? Otherwise, he'd be just like The Shield from Impact Comics.

"Shoot me here. There's a big bright target on my chest."

But of course, my first Batman comics had the yellow symbol, so to me, it's really not that big of a deal.
thedon786 - 8/10/2010, 12:31 PM
anything to do with batman im there
superdog - 8/10/2010, 12:37 PM
i like it
CalendarMan - 8/10/2010, 12:43 PM
pretty [frick]in sweet.
Bandrews1 - 8/10/2010, 12:45 PM
I'm digging it.
jjmeylar - 8/10/2010, 12:49 PM
"Where's the Batman? I don't see him. Maybe we don't have to be scared, right now, man?"

"Are you kidding me? Look at the bright yellow oval with the shape of a bat on it in black! He's right there! Let's shoot him!"

Yeah..........bright yellow is NOT the best thing for stealth. Just sayin'.
skullboy - 8/10/2010, 12:53 PM
I've always liked the yellow-oval symbol better. I'm guessing that's Bruce Wayne. Final Crisis was the reason why I quit comics.
Durango95 - 8/10/2010, 1:02 PM
yeah never was a big fan of the yellow oval...like painting a bullseye on your chest.
NERO - 8/10/2010, 1:04 PM
Not digging the return of the oval.
marvel72 - 8/10/2010, 1:09 PM
@ joshw nice, hope after nolans done with batman.

zack snyder makes frank millers the dark knight returns
TheCapelessCrusader - 8/10/2010, 1:19 PM
For all the dweebs commenting along the lines of "meeeh... the oval emblem's like a bulls-eye... myeh..." YES. IT IS. That's the point, nerds. He paints a bullseye on his chest so that criminals shoot him there, where the suit has reinforced kevlar, rather than, oh, say, HIS HEAD.

Seriously, people... you're giving nerds a bad name... you're supposed to know these things.
LucasMend - 8/10/2010, 1:22 PM
I always hated the yellow circle, but I always loved the grey and black outfit
longbowhunter - 8/10/2010, 1:28 PM
Despite what anyone else thinks I've always loved the yellow egg shaped bat symbol.
Verdugo - 8/10/2010, 1:32 PM
I love it! I like the yellow OVAL; I know it doesn’t make any sense, but neither does a big cape that hinders movement and nobody seems to mind about it.

golden123 - 8/10/2010, 1:44 PM
I absoulutly LOVE this costume I can't find anything that I don't like about it, I can only hope they use this in Batman 3.
@Itcdrshiznit: I know sometimes I think I'm in a strange world.
