DC Entertainment Bringing Starman To The Screen?

According to Pajiba they are. They claim to have inside info that we will be seeing the intergalactic DC comics character in his own movie at some point..

But which one! Starman has gone through numerous incarnations over the years. He's been the gravity rod wielding Ted Knight, a mutant alien bisexual prince, Knight's sons Jack AND David among others. The current Starman is a member of the JLU and a complete nut job. To relate his history in my own words would give me a headache so I'm enlisting good ol Wikipedia's help on this one..

Hailing from the original Legion of Super-Heroes universe, where he was known as Star Boy , he receives by the combined Brainiac 5 of the Three Worlds a complete map of the Multiverse, printed to his star-clad suit, to use in a mission meant to save the entire space-time continuum. It's implied his mind-addled status was actually a deciding factor in his choosing, since his borderline insanity was meant to prevent telepath or skilled interrogators to gain any information from him. However he got stranded on Earth-22, the Kingdom Come universe, thus witnessing the dramatic events on that Earth, and receiving an added damage to his frail mind, proved by the lack of the advanced medication he had access to in his own time.

DC eh? Its never simple! Anyway here is a snippet of the report from Pajiba..

In any event, according to an inside source, Warner Brother, in partnership with Lin Productions and DC Comics, is bringing Starman to the big screen. Which version is sort of unknown — he’ll wield a gravity rod, have energy powers, and likely be able to fly. One of the more recent Starman characters could also manipulate mass, but not word on whether that power will be present.

Apparently the movie is being produced by Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes and Terminator Salvation) and Gregory Noveck (Jonah Hex ). No writer or director is attached yet, as the film is in very early development. Depending on which version of the character they use it could be pretty cool. With Green Lantern pioneering the move into the more intergalactic characters in the DC Universe, Warner Bros may be looking to keep the space faring going with this.

thwhtGuardian - 4/28/2010, 6:27 PM
I'd like to see Jack Knight, I really dug that he didn't dress like a super hero, he just wore a bad ass jacket and some flight goggles.
THEPHOENIX - 4/28/2010, 6:31 PM
I want the Ted Knight version. Maybe a bit more grounded though.

Isn't Gregory Noveck the same guy who produce the Losers and Jonah Hex?
jazzman - 4/28/2010, 6:42 PM
@THEPHOENIX

Gregory Noveck only produce Jonah Hex and his executive producer to up and coming Red.
dellamorte1872 - 4/28/2010, 6:43 PM
eh. ANIMAL MAN! if we're giving random DC characters films. or shit, make BOOSTER GOLD then spin-off STARMEN (since he has the whole LEGION thing)
OmegaBlack13 - 4/28/2010, 6:47 PM
@Anil
Yea I agree but still I think if DC cant be tha 1st to do tha big team movie thing then they need to get on tha space stuff!
dellamorte1872 - 4/28/2010, 6:51 PM
"NON-BIG NAME" DC CHARACTERS THAT NEED A FILM BEFORE STARMAN (PERSONALLY)

SWAMP THING (DC VERTIGO SAME THING LOL)
A "FACTUAL TAKE" ON HELLBLAZER
ANIMAL MAN
BOOSTER GOLD
LOBO
PREACHER (V)
SANDMAN )V)
QUESTION (SINCE THEY OWN THE PROPERTY)

superdog - 4/28/2010, 7:03 PM
I don't know who this is.
longbowhunter - 4/28/2010, 7:07 PM
Lets see Jack Knight. James Robinson's Starman was AMAZING!
RedDevil - 4/28/2010, 7:10 PM
Hmm I'm not really familiar with Starman. To be honest the only intergalactic hero that I am willing to watch is Green Lantern because his story is very compelling. Reading this guy's bio, I find Starman ok. DC really needs to pick up pace with their popular heroes like GL, SUPES, FLASH, BATS, and WONDERWOMAN.
jusme6 - 4/28/2010, 7:18 PM
Seriously DC? Seriously? There is no legitimate reason why you shouldn't be kicking Marvel's ass in the live-action-movie business.

@Kes: My thoughts exactly.
jazzman - 4/28/2010, 7:31 PM
@dellamorte1872

Sony Pictures own the rights to "Preacher".

DC/WB need to focus on doing The Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Arrow, etc
canadianbacon - 4/28/2010, 7:31 PM
really dc/warner bros?
i am so very dissapointed their even talking about this before doing some other key dc characters
marvel is reading this and laughing
odie00 - 4/28/2010, 7:43 PM
well i agree they need to make the other hero movies first i mean green lantern is just starting and we still need the flash wonder woman, i'd say aquaman but he kind of blows lol. lobo is raw but i think they would do other ones before him he isnt even a hero really. and green arrows movie instead of an orgin film they are doing the supermax which sounds cool but dumb at the same time. come on martain manhunter hes the man. a star man movie would be cool i actually like the recent incarnation of him being a nut job but we need the first heroes and dc is way behind. marvel is kicking ass when it comes to releasing and making the movies tho some ended up sucking but it didnt take them long to remake the hulk or punisher so lets get to it dc
jrocka - 4/28/2010, 7:47 PM
i don't understand why DC would make a movie of such a charatcher who i have never heard of but not wonder woman or any important characters in Justice league?
r0r5ch4ch84 - 4/28/2010, 7:53 PM
Starman, really? Holy shit that's going to be tough. And didn't they already make a movie about starman? And a TV series?
yttox - 4/28/2010, 8:30 PM
They should do a Legion movie and then spin-off Starman (maybe into a JLA movie)!
I´m not a big Legion fan, but I absolutly would watch a Legion movie!!!
Hey, I´m no Marvel fan either, but I watched every movie they made about their characters in the last years!!!
ghostpudding - 4/28/2010, 8:35 PM
i feel as thought this movie wouldn't make a lot of money because:
1.not many non-comic readers know about star-man
2.marvels putting out major characters and pretty good movies lately.
3.dc movies haven't been great except dark knight and some animated.

@dellamorte1872 question sounds like a cool animated movie not live yet. major characters first
ghostpudding - 4/28/2010, 8:45 PM
@anil sounds like a good idea if dc can find a good director and writer.that knows the character.
OptimusPrime114 - 4/28/2010, 9:07 PM
Milo Ventimiglia for Jack Knight!
Ranger14 - 4/28/2010, 10:42 PM
Pretty much my thoughts are what a lot of others are expressing. Why aren't they making Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Arrow and more recognized A-list hero movies? Market movies the general public are more familiar with to build your credibility, then introduce some of the other characters.
JLanphear - 4/28/2010, 11:06 PM
PLEASE let it be an incarnation of the CURRENT Starman. His ridiculous and insane rambling is some of the most brilliant jarble in comic books.
OmegaBlack13 - 4/28/2010, 11:15 PM
When you think about it, the "get known properties out first" doesnt have a complete basis. I mean, does the average movie goer really know of Thor--or know that superheroes dont all inhabit the same universe?
luffycapri - 4/28/2010, 11:38 PM
this dude looks a little lame oh well.
Cook - 4/29/2010, 2:12 AM
It doesn't matter what any of you say. The only Starman
that should have any movie made is Jack Knight. If you disagree then you're wrong. The story of Jack Knight is the greatest DC story ever Written in the past 20 YEARS. If you disagree then you are wrong.
LEEE777 - 4/29/2010, 3:13 AM
COOK @I agree!!!

And clearly people that dish this havn't even read a STARMAN comic!!

Years ago we was getting a STARMAN TV series, never happened though!

Fingers crossed this will, STARMAN has a very rich and interesting history, perfect for the big screen!
LEEE777 - 4/29/2010, 3:15 AM
P.S. Stuff like BLADE etc was second ringer characters and look how they turned out!

This is fantastic news!

Talking SUPERHERO movies, : P

Cheers! ; D
CorndogBurglar - 4/29/2010, 6:26 AM
good job DC. keep making movies people don't care about. keep pushing your main franchises to the back burner...keep telling yourselves that what Marvel is doing "sucks". meanwhile, they're "sucky" movies are kicking your asses...
longbowhunter - 4/29/2010, 6:39 AM
I cant believe so many of you are scoffing at the idea of a Starman movie.

I'm in LEEE & Cook's corner on this one!
Ryan - 4/29/2010, 7:11 AM
Thom Kallor! Oh please. Oh please. Find some way to make this work. Look at that kick ass costume. If it's going to be a Jack Knight movie they can still end the movie the same way they ended the series (not counting that Blackest Night tie in) with Thom visiting Jack.
rsalas - 4/29/2010, 8:03 AM
Starman would be cool but there other other DC characters I would like to see on the big screen first.
thegreek - 4/29/2010, 8:42 AM
Well i never read a Starman comic... But i have seen the newest Star man in the Kingdom Come Series and Superman Series when he brings back Conner... Still don't know much about his powers except he is def crazy as hell..

That being said i am with most of you ... like WTF... why not LOBO ... Green Arrow... FLASH .... WW.... Properties that will def bring in money ... I think it will be confusing to people to see a character they never heard of before and it will flop because of it ... just Tie him into another movie
bropous - 4/29/2010, 9:33 AM
Oh my GOD!

Just tell me, one time, let me hear it, I want ONE name at DC/WB I can track down, and kick square-on in the nuts. Dammit, I will Rochambeau the CEO of WB for the right to be the CEO of DC Films!

WHY IN THE FECK WOULD YOU DO THIS?????????

WHY?????

I am a HUGE Legion fan, but get your damn heads out of your collective arses and WAKE UP!! Marvel is cleaning your CLOCK, and you reach into your rich stable of comic book characters, all of those A-list heroes ready willing and able to make you millions upon millions of dollars and you come up with...STARMAN???

DC, go ahead and just bend over and kiss your rear end good bye, because if someone does not remove that gang of IDIOTS at DC Films and replace them with people who know something about the DC universe and has the BALLS to push for it making its way to the big screen, DC Films will be an even bigger JOKE than it is today.

DOES ANYONE AT DC FILMS GIVE A FLYING F*CK AT A ROLLING DONUT ABOUT PROFIT?

Get your damn A-List characters on film FIRST, Dildoes!

From now on, DC for me is nothing but Dildo Comics until they show they can get past these ridiculous selections and give us the core of the JLA on the big screen.
thatiscrazy - 4/29/2010, 9:36 AM
DCs Character are gay except for batman
bropous - 4/29/2010, 9:44 AM
And DC, you better hear this and hear it well:

You set yourself up for FAILURE listening to Nolan on the concept of the DC Universe. He did a pretty damn good job with Batman, but he just doesn't GET it.

Batman-Superman friendship/animosity: BEAUTIFUL opportunity for deep character development: MISSED.

Trying to keep the DC Universe characters walled off from each other is disastrous if you are trying to build up a new fan base for your MOVIES. What a perfect opportunity to introduce "new" characters, a little cameo or mention here or there in this movie, as an appetizer to the uninitated to get them hungry for the next movie!

WHY is this so dang hard to comprehend for the DC/WB suits?

You weave common threads into the DC movies, uniting the DC universe, and it's not just fanboys who are getting excited about an upcoming Flash or Wonder Woman film (and I have no clue at all where some of you folks are getting the opinion a WW movie is not makeable).

Time for some replacements at the conference table at WB/DC Film HQ. And time to get some FANS of the characters involved in the movies.
bropous - 4/29/2010, 9:45 AM
thatiscrazy, your name fits.

DC is different from Marvel, sure, but has some VERY great characters, and only a couple of them are gay.

Guy Gardener, anyone?

;- )
Nightwing09 - 4/29/2010, 10:41 AM
THANK GOD!!!!!
ROMACK - 4/29/2010, 11:34 AM
Of all the characters in the vast and rich DC universe .... we get Starman? WTF!? I know some people love this character, but this will be doomed to fail. Especially if they handle like Superman Returns. There is no mainstream recognition for this character. Maybe if he were to cameo in GL it could work....but I am steadily losing faith in WBs ability to make any decent decisions.
JayTopStix - 4/29/2010, 12:44 PM
Who the [frick] is starman? Really this is just stupid
skullboy - 4/29/2010, 2:04 PM
Huh. Well that's gonna be a really tough sell among movie goers. We really would prefer to see Flash, Wonde Woman, Green Arrow, and the JLA to get films instead.
lc - 4/29/2010, 2:27 PM
not sure about this one but well done :)
Aiiwolf - 4/29/2010, 9:27 PM
@ Magic8

Hell yeah man...well said about the marvel characters being gayer. lol

DC Rocks Marvel's socks! The only 2 DC movies that reeked of terrible-ness are catwoman and Batman and Robin. How many Marvel movies sucked? lol

Second, Dc animated movies are far better than Marvel. I've always been a Big DC fan...even though I started of reading comics like superman, and alot of marvel comics....Minute I read Batman/Superman....my god Dc is awesome!
Goggles - 4/29/2010, 10:57 PM
How is it that some of you don't know who Starman is, yet you are on Comic Book Movie.com? Sigh, I guess good comics always manage to slip past people's radars. Because, James Robinson's run with Starman (Jack Knight) was absolutely fantastic.

I also like how people manage to include Lobo in the list of DC's "a-list" names. Cause if I went out on the town asking people what they think of Lobo, I'd probably get the same answer if I asked the same question, but replaced Lobo with Starman.

@magic8, very good point. Warners/DC just might be awaiting the perfect script/director to land in their palms that wants to take on Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Arrow, etc., and has the intent of making a great movie that doesn't spit in the face of the source material.
thegreek - 4/30/2010, 9:49 AM
Magic - You are correct sir... About DC and Marvel ..

Aiiwolf - I agree i was actually a Marvel fan when i was a kid ... Obviously i like Bat-man and Superman but that was it... But ever since i read the VS comic ... DC just drew me in

Goggles - I only know very little of Starman ... Seems like an interesting character... But I would think LOBO would be a more fun movie and movie goers would probably enjoy of course that is my opinion.
redrum010 - 4/30/2010, 2:05 PM
A Jack Knight story would be awesome! Start the movie off just like the series that ran back in the nineties. David getting sniped on top of the building just before taking off into the night and Jack being forced to take on the mantle he so reluctant about carrying on.
juggy4711 - 4/30/2010, 4:56 PM
I hope this isn't true but if so the folks at WB either A)Don't know what the hell they are doing, B) Don't believe in the material and look for projects that won't instantly be associated with comics like Jonah and Loosers, C) A and B.
jshark - 5/1/2010, 3:16 AM
I think everyone's missing the big picture. Most film companies are looking to do something new, and introducing a character that most people have never heard of is a way to do that. If you see a preview for something that looks badass and have no idea what it is you're more likely to go see it cause you have the tendacy to be like 'I want to learn more.' Plus you interest people who don't read comics. Oh and if you screw it up most people won't know, but if you do it right you'll know how to do something else right too, like WW, Flash, etc.
Cook - 5/1/2010, 11:20 AM
I've said it once and I will say it again:
It doesn't matter what any of you say. The only Starman
that should have any movie made is Jack Knight. If you disagree then you're wrong. The story of Jack Knight is the greatest DC story written in the past 20 YEARS. There isn't a better Super hero story around that invokes so much emotion. If you disagree then you are wrong.

The story arc that needs to be on film is Called "Sins of the Father" and it consists of the first 10 issues James Robinson's run of Starman. If done right they could do every story arc from this 80 issue run and it would include every Starman and all the wonderful characters created by Robinson. But this also does frighten me a little. This the one title I am most passionate about and I would be crushed if they do it wrong.
ClaireLannister2016 - 5/10/2010, 8:49 PM
Bring on the Wonder woman movie! :)
