The Man From U.N.C.L.E has been knocking around at Warner Bros. for a long time now, and was originally set to star George Clooney and be directed by Steven Soderbergh until the actor was forced to drop out because of neck surgery. But now according to Deadline Sherlock Holmes helmer Guy Ritchie is on board to direct, and Tom Cruise in in talks to star. The original TV series ran from 1964-68, and starred Robert Vaughan and David McCallum as agents of the United Network Command for Law Enforcement, Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin as they battled the evil forces of "Thrush" (sounds nasty). If the deal goes through, this would mark yet another potential action franchise for Cruise on top of Mission Impossible - also a reboot of an old tv series - and apparently he is also expected to reprise the role of Jack Reacher at some point.
