The Man From U.N.C.L.E has been knocking around at Warner Bros. for a long time now, and was originally set to star George Clooney and be directed by Steven Soderbergh until the actor was forced to drop out because of neck surgery. But now according to Deadline Sherlock Holmes helmer Guy Ritchie is on board to direct, and Tom Cruise in in talks to star. The original TV series ran from 1964-68, and starred Robert Vaughan and David McCallum as agents of the United Network Command for Law Enforcement, Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin as they battled the evil forces of "Thrush" (sounds nasty). If the deal goes through, this would mark yet another potential action franchise for Cruise on top of Mission Impossible - also a reboot of an old tv series - and apparently he is also expected to reprise the role of Jack Reacher at some point.

Tom Cruise is a good actor, but am I the only one that feels like he's becoming a white Samuel L Jackson?
dellamorte1872 - 3/18/2013, 4:39 PM

Another 60's spy show?

What's next, Tom Cruise as John Steed?

Give someone else a chance!
fettastic - 3/18/2013, 5:00 PM
Well I'm glad Cruise is deciding to branch out and do things outside his comfort zone. *eyeroll*

What's the update on Sherlock Holmes 3 & MI5?
UltimaRex - 3/18/2013, 5:21 PM
I'll say this, Cruise knows his audience and his limitations.

After Rock of Ages, he'd better.

Man from UNCLE was the premier spy show of the sixties never missed an episode. Would love to see a modern take on it.

I'm so sick of Tom Cruise. Jeez, why can't he just go away?
InfiniteMonkey - 3/18/2013, 7:25 PM
This sounds like a slutty flop.

Ritchie is Cool. But Cruise just irritates me. Besides he has played a similar character before - yawn
FlixMentallo21 - 3/18/2013, 9:18 PM
Drop Cruise, this would be redundant. Get someone who isn't Mark Wahlberg, someone new or a face we haven't seen in a while.

He is a creepy guy, but a great actor.

Anyone who denies that needs to stop being obsessed with the personal lives of celebrities. They're all creeps in Hollywood, public image is just a matter of who's good at hiding it and who's not.
AlexDeLarge87 - 3/19/2013, 1:15 AM
Good actor but i think he should slow down a little bit. He fits in the role of Solo thou. Better than Reacher.
But i really would like to see someone fresh in the role. Cruise has Mission Impossible.
AlexDeLarge87 - 3/19/2013, 1:18 AM
I hope the movie is based on the 60s. That would be cool. Then it wouldnt loose that nostalgia feeling the series has.

LOVE The Man From U.N.C.L.E.... get David McCallum to be in it and I'm in!
MiracleMe - 3/19/2013, 3:32 AM
Damn! I was really hoping Tarantino would have a go at Man from U.N.C.L.E..
Set in the 60's THAT would've been something.
SpideyQuad - 3/19/2013, 6:27 AM
Sorry, but I always thought the man from uncle socked!
Nadj76 - 3/19/2013, 6:37 AM
Depends on which Guy Ritchie we get - Rocknrolla/Snatch/Lock Stock or the other boring guy from the other hack movies.....
r1g0r - 3/19/2013, 7:05 AM
Man From U.N.C.L.E. ?
YAY!

guy Ritchie ?
very promising!

tom (i'm just a bipedal version of most people's @$$h0l3$) ?
hmmm... let me think about this
comicb00kguy - 3/19/2013, 10:21 AM
Please, God! No!!!! It's not enough for Cruise to ruin Mission Impossible, now he may ruin Man from U.N.C.L.E. too? It's between him and Depp who is the bigger blight or testicular cancer on quality moviemaking.

I'd sure rather see Tarantino direct this movie. He has that certain style about his films that would really mesh well with the characters and the basic premise of the show, ESPECIALLY if it was played as a '60s period piece, which would really be cool.
kirbyfan - 3/19/2013, 5:38 PM
Please God Yes!!!!

I think this is absolutely perfect for Tom Cruise!

I don't get the hate for this man, he makes great movies, of course no one is perfect, but overall Mr. Cruise has done some fantastic work.

I'd love to see him as The Man From U.N.C.L.E.!
