COMICS: DC Tease The Return Of THE JOKER

We haven't the iconic villain in the pages of the New 52 since he went all "face-off", but now The Joker is set to be the focal point of a new storyline beginning in Batman #13. Check out a cool teaser..

Says Scott Snyder of the character..

"Joker is my favorite villain of all time. Not just in comics. In everything - film, books, TV. He's the greatest, hands down. So this story is something extremely important and personal to me - something I've been building in my head ever since I started working in Gotham. Basically, this is my big exploration of the Joker, my ARKHAM ASYLUM or THE KILLING JOKE, only bigger in scope. Bottom line: it's the biggest, baddest, most shocking Joker story I could tell. This is Joker completely unleashed. He has been away for a full year planning this revenge, watching, plotting, setting things up. And now he's back. He has his traps set, his knives sharpened... And wait 'til you see him. Greg's sketches literally gave me chills. Point blank: This is Joker like you've never seen him before. He has a mission. He has a secret. And he has a serious axe to grind with Batman. It isn't going to be pretty, but it's going to be a wild ride. Thanks for taking it with us."

Snyder and Capullo are doing the Joker, head has just exploded. Arguably best team at the moment in comics.
alphadog - 7/2/2012, 1:30 PM
Second... and it's about time he returns, i was really mising him
StarSpangledBruce - 7/2/2012, 1:30 PM
YES!!!

DukeAcureds - 7/2/2012, 1:31 PM
Wow what a long awaited return. Didn't he just die, like two seconds ago. Come on.
StarSpangledBruce - 7/2/2012, 1:32 PM
@DukeAcureds I don't think he died, his face was cut off though.
Knightrider - 7/2/2012, 1:33 PM
Na I didn't think he died either
DukeAcureds - 7/2/2012, 1:43 PM
Don't you die if you have you're face cut off? You know, in the real world?
Quinn heard that he was dead, in Suicide Squad, which is why she escaped the Squad and returned to Gotham to see Joker's body. Dead, right?
RunDTC - 7/2/2012, 1:44 PM
how is he alive with no face?
SuperDan89 - 7/2/2012, 1:44 PM
Cool art
GoILL - 7/2/2012, 1:46 PM
Real excited for this.
PaulRom - 7/2/2012, 1:46 PM
So awesome. Can't wait.
siddhant1138 - 7/2/2012, 1:47 PM
Oh no.

Sorry, but I'm not happy about this.

I don't like what Snyder has been doing with Batman, and I don't think he's a good choice to write The Joker.

I could be wrong, but this looks like a bad move on DC's part.
CBArtist - 7/2/2012, 1:48 PM
The Dollman removed his face and grafted a different one on him. That was the whole premiss to Detective #1. They just haven't followed up on that until now.
Knightrider - 7/2/2012, 1:49 PM
@RunDTC Its a comicbook, which have never been the staple for realism.

@Siddhant1138 I have to disagree with you, but respect your opinion, but just wondering who would you have write Batman?
TheAmaazingSpiderman - 7/2/2012, 1:51 PM
Can't wait!! Snyder and Capullo's run has been mindblowing
Tomontherun99 - 7/2/2012, 1:59 PM
@DukeAcureds I know what you mean, aliens from crystalline planets, imps from the 5th dimension, a city full of hyper-intelligent gorillas, a ring that makes the wearer's imagination reality, men that can run faster than light, legion of near-immortal owl men and an amazon warrior molded from clay and given life by the gods are fine. But someone surviving from having their face cut off? That's just silly.
DeadHubris - 7/2/2012, 1:59 PM
JOKERBERRG!

Cant Wait.
TrueRedBlue - 7/2/2012, 2:03 PM
Whoa. Hopefully we get a risky, ballsy new approach and look to the character like they did in Dark Knight.
coolguy - 7/2/2012, 2:03 PM
This will be awesome. Oh and he didn't die because he is a comic character.
DukeAcureds - 7/2/2012, 2:03 PM
Tomontherun@ Point.
Toasty - 7/2/2012, 2:04 PM
Slightly annoyed that they always resort to the Joker at some point or another sure he's an awesome villain, but i wish they'd push other villains into the focus and try out new idea's instead of recycling the same old.
siddhant1138 - 7/2/2012, 2:05 PM
@Knightrider I know this is going to sound whiny, but at this point, I'm sort of sick of what both DC and Marvel are doing with their all long running series. Hear me out, until six months ago, I was an avid reader, as I have been for a long time. Now, continuity was always an issue, but I managed to work through it. I thought the DC relaunch would be a good thing, and it was initially. But after a few issues of each Batman line, I realized that while the continuity of Batman was supposedly unchanged, their was a disconnect between each title. Batman & Robin was forgiven of course, since it seemed to take place much later, but Batman, Detective and TDK seemed like Batman was three different people, in three different continuities (not to mention the Batman in JL, Batman Inc. and JLI). And with all the games the two big companies are playing to rope in the untapped market that's now gained an interest thanks to the boom in comicbook movies, I honestly couldn't care less about who writes Batman in the long run, because the publishers will still have control, and their motive seems to be largely monetary at the moment, so for a while, it's all going to be about how can we draw in readers to make IMMEDIATE profit, without caring too much about it making sense.

I know how sour I must sound, but don't get me wrong, Batman: Noel was fantastic, and I'll be first in line to buy Earth One, and I think those sort of stories have a distinct advantage (Earth One especially) because they aren't bound by cumbersome continuity issues and rigid publisher control. So to answer your question, I'm not sure who I'd like to see write any of the current titles, but if they were to give Morrison the chance to do something out of continuity, or perhaps Brubaker now that he's done with Cap, or any top notch writer really, I'd be happy. I love seeing new takes on the characters, heck I even loved what Kevin Smith did, so if anybody wrote a stand alone, I'd pick it up.

Except Frank Miller, [frick] that guy.

@Knightrider: thanks Captain Obvious. but having a non-powered character surviving without a face is still pushing it. what next? Iron Man gets decapited and builds himself a robotic head?
2ndSun47 - 7/2/2012, 2:11 PM
Just ask those guys in Florida. You can have your face cut-off and live...
longbowhunter - 7/2/2012, 2:13 PM
I appreciate DC taking the Joker off the table for the first year of the relaunch. He's one of those characters that need to be used sparingly.
dnno1 - 7/2/2012, 2:15 PM
The Clown Prince of Crime.
justified1 - 7/2/2012, 2:20 PM
Wow, Creepy
justified1 - 7/2/2012, 2:21 PM
Monkeyballs - How old are you?
newmutants - 7/2/2012, 2:27 PM
I find it so funny that the marvel kool aid drinkers dont even comment on anything batman comic related as we all know Synder and crew presently write the best comic in the industry...no one is even close lol..
marvel72 - 7/2/2012, 2:30 PM
this is gonna be good, can't wait.
justified1 - 7/2/2012, 2:52 PM
Monkeyballs. I only ask becasue who would say pick up a newspaper and stop playing video games? And who says 'shit' like that anymore?

TheAmaazingSpiderman - 7/2/2012, 2:57 PM
@just1superguy So we got a Superman fan talking about Overrated,Overpowered and unrealistic....right
TheAmaazingSpiderman - 7/2/2012, 3:00 PM
Don't be mad just because Superman is lame and boring
REDSTORM - 7/2/2012, 3:00 PM
@Toasty, Joker hasn't done much at all since the reboot.
Bandrews1 - 7/2/2012, 3:03 PM
Cool. Cool, Cool, Cool.
logicoflame - 7/2/2012, 3:06 PM
@ TheAmaazingSpiderman
good eye on him being a superman fan. FYI BATMAN Is AMAZBALLS
ACira - 7/2/2012, 3:11 PM
@DukeAcureds plenty of people have survived the loss of their face, so it's perfectly feasible that Joker could too... assuming he had some kind of surgery afterward...

I have no idea how they'll explain him reattaching his face after a year though, assuming he does actually reattach it. Ah well.
Deadpool101 - 7/2/2012, 3:13 PM
stoked
marvel72 - 7/2/2012, 3:25 PM
@ im53

july is spidey month so spidey avatar.
DanteSparda - 7/2/2012, 3:56 PM
Looks really cool, can't wait to see the new Joker, tought I hope they doesn't change his appearance that much, he is perfect just as it is; I wouln't mind if they put him the TDK scars but I hope they don't cover all his face with scars ala Jigsaw (Not that is anything wrong with Jigsaw but the Joker has to be different).

JediJoker515 - 7/2/2012, 3:58 PM
People are complaining about things being unrealistic in a comic book? Really? I mean really? Seriously? I don't want to live on this planet anymore.
Minghagz - 7/2/2012, 4:22 PM
Really excited for this! I love what Snyder has done with Batman.
Wildaniel - 7/2/2012, 4:41 PM
If you didnt know Nightwing was undercover as the Joker in Batman #1.

Snyder and Capullo, best team ever!
Wildaniel - 7/2/2012, 4:45 PM

ThatOneDude - 7/2/2012, 5:01 PM
This is very good news... Gonna copy what happened in Miami Snyder?
MJPETTY7 - 7/2/2012, 5:22 PM
Cannot wait. Love the title too, great Batman Beyond reference...
newmutants - 7/2/2012, 5:56 PM
@just1superguy...im one of the biggest superman fans there is (pre-crisis, when he really was a GOD), but lets face it..with the exception of doomsday, zod (Bizarro is just handles too lame by the writers), Supes is just too boring and really has no one that can put him in any real danger..only reason Bats ever defeated supes is cause he cheated or supes was mind controlled...that fight is a no contest..
DTor91 - 7/2/2012, 6:02 PM
@Just1Superguy "Superman can't be overrated, he's the original superhero."
How in any way does that even make sense? Because you're the first you can't be overrated? And being overrated is based on opinion, it's not definitive. Anybody can say anything is overrated, just like anybody can say anything is underrated. Look, i respect your opinion and I honestly don't care how anyone feels about any character really, to each their own, but there was zero logic present in that statement.

One thing that is bothering me with this thread though, is people are complaining about unrealistic things that happen in fictional comic books. The fact that I had to type that out is just wrong. I swear with you people, realism this, realism that, unrealistic movies, unrealistic comics......wow you all must want everything to be exactly as mundane as real life is. So much for creativity and being let loose in a world left up to imagination from the writers and artists behind beloved characters.

But back to what the article is about, I cannot wait. I've called this from the beginning. Snyder's and Capullo's take on the Joker will likely be a definitive one.
hope420 - 7/2/2012, 8:29 PM
If they reboot the Batman franchise I'd love to see someone like Willam Defoe or Crispen Glover play the Joker.
