BOX OFFICE: TDKR $67.4M Worldwide: $27+M Midnights Shatter AVENGERS Record

Coming off the reports that TDKR has had a very good start on foreign soil, Deadline now confirm that the additional $27+M domestic means it will top Marvel's The Avengers' $18.4M in midnight showings earlier this Summer..

It seems the decision to open with 3,700 Thursday midnight showings has paid off for Warner Bros., as The Dark Knight Rises' 2D midnights number shatters the $18.4M generated by Marvel’s 3D epic The Avengers earlier this summer. Joss Whedon's film had held the record for midnight gross set by a superhero movie (the overall record is still held by the final Harry Potter flick). “The West Coast is still selling tickets with some theaters adding 3 AM shows, this is effing huge!” a Warner Bros exec tells Deadline. Reported pre-sales of $30M and international grosses from 9 countries totalling $10.4M, means that’s already $67.4M worldwide for Christopher Nolan's Batman swan-song before it's even in wide release.

Well, Avengers made "only" $18.5m in midnights. They usually don't mean much. Waiting for Friday numbers. It also needs to big Saturday/Sunday for OW record.

It doesn't mean much for the long all, but interesting nonetheless. I don't think it will out-perform the Avengers overall though.

it only beat the avengers midnight showing because of the fans that cannot wait to watch the film in the daytime,it will die down & i honestly can't see repeat veiwings happening not when the movie is just under three hours.

i'll watch once next week & probably again on blu-ray.

man of steel trailer was abit of a letdown, him flying through the clouds looked nice but i thought the comic con footage was better.

Well played TDKR. I think it will start strong but I don't see it beating the Avengers at the box office. I doubt people will see this movie six or seven times.

If you see it eight times, that's nearly a day of your life gone! Lol

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, and family of the victims effected by the late night shooting.

Annnnnd....

That's nice. It'll be tough to make $1.5billion though.

But it's weird how these past two Nolan Batman films always have some outside hype connected to them. TDK was Ledgers death, and accusations of it being Pro Bush propaganda.

This has the Rush L. thing about Bane. And more accusations of hidden political messages. There are politics in these films(Nolan's full of it if he completely denies that), but I've seen this movie all over the news. The death threats from angry fans even made the news. Never will you see that surround a Marvel film, at least not yet.

Good for them though, I hope Man of Steel takes the helm for DC next year and beyond. Superman and his fans deserve it(they're much classier than most Batman fans lol). Great to see my to favorite Marvel(Spidey) and DC(The Bat) characters have blockbuster hits come out during my birth month :-).

Just read that some sick-ass in Colorado opened fire on a crowd waiting to see last night's midnight premiere. Killed 14, injured about 50 others.

Sad, sad.

The air conditioning went out at my theatre. If you were at the midnight show at Pacific theatre Northridge fashion center you know what i mean. Regardless by the time the credits came up everyone was so blown away that they all forgot about it. I happend to see a manager on my way out and confronted her about the lack of cool air and she gave be a pass to come back. The point is that the ending of TDKR was so amazing that they forgot all about it....except me that is.

seems this movie should donate to those who were murdered waiting at the cinima, sad how things come to pass, the second movie struggles then heath ledger dies and it makes a fortune now for the third to ensure its high sucsess something was bound to happen this is movie and comic book fanatics going to the extreem and its at the directors door i post the blame.

@LoudLon very sad news indeed. mt deepest condolences to the familes whom have lost their loved ones in that shooting.

Maybe CBM.com can do something to honor those that were lost in the shooting, just a thought.

Wow. That was some of the greatest action scenes I've ever seen on film. IMAX makes this a truly unforgettable experience (albeit unpoetic dialogue, weak character development, and passable editing). What a satisfying conclusion. And, you fans, Christopher Nolan does care about you, tons of nods to the comic books. There are very funny moments where it makes fun of itself (ridiculousness of Batman never using a gun). All of that reminds of Marvel Studios, strange enough. While humor made it fun, it also hurt the film, Christopher Nolan's worst script, by far. I am thoroughly pleased with four-year hype and this wonderful product. Bane was amusing. Hope this makes a lot of money. I'll contribute with a second showing with a couple more people. Wow, still mindblown.

A mass murderer dressed like Bane entered a theatre in Denver Colorado during the TDKR premiere and made 15 dead and 50 injured and you are still talking about seeing this movie?
