Interesting......

looks...boring.
MutantEquality - 8/31/2012, 6:49 AM
Looks ok
Wingding - 8/31/2012, 6:51 AM
Huh? I never picked up any Superman title because I read they weren't good, so Idk if it's explained, but WHY THE HECK IS HE WEARING JEANS AND A TEE SHIRT? They basically took Superboy's awesome look, gave it to SuperMAN, added a dinky cape, and in the process made Superboy and Superman look dumb now. Lol. They didn't help themselves. Honestly I'm hoping so much that Scott Snyder and Jim Lee start a Man Of Steel series. I will pick that up in a HEART BEAT.
RedeyeJedi - 8/31/2012, 6:52 AM
I truly love the artwork and truly loathe the costume.

Grant Plzz do another Superman story that has nothing to do with the New 52

@Wingding: it's a story about his origins, his power are stil undeveloped and still hasn't found out everything about his true origins, that's why his costume is homemade, only the cape is actually the sheet in which he was wrapped inside the spaceship tha brought him on Earth and it's indestructible.

@monkeyballs3: same thing they say about his X-men, don't believe it, the truth is Grant Morrison's style is so peculiar people get a bit disoriented by it.

As a Comic Book-Artist (still In-Training) I have to say I love this art I love when art has a mix of reality and cartoony styles its awesome I really love this style, the style on the ongoing super-man books is something to cry about if Superman is the icon of DC comics then I feel dc have done a terrible job launching the character everytime I pick the book it has this mediocre writing that tends to just put me off as for Action Comics with Grant Morrison the Original Art by Rags Morales is good and he's great at anatomy and facial expressions and really knows how to tell a story plus Grant Morrison is a good writer only someone with the mind of a writer,educated person with an open mind and not a 8 year-old will understand Grant Morrison's writing I oblige fans to really get behind morrison's writing and really delve and think what he is trying to convey, But the Art on this book is grand also the coloring brings out more action on the books I may have to pick this up because I would love to study the Art but as for the Original Superman Title it happens to be bad judging that this is a reboot considering the mindset that Superman is a boy-scout we need to see a super-man book which has new scope and decisons
ShadowOfTheWeb - 8/31/2012, 8:02 AM
meh. Why would Supes wear rolled up jeans and boots with no socks? Surely he could look a little cooler
RorMachine - 8/31/2012, 8:02 AM
Yoss, no more than the article, but here it is..

http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/rorschachsrants/news/?a=63497

The link at the end goes back to ESPN, but I don't think it links to where you can buy the stuff.
ShadowOfTheWeb - 8/31/2012, 8:03 AM
srsly where does he get his clothes from?
lokibane2012 - 8/31/2012, 8:25 AM
This comic looks [frick]ing stupid.

Why does anybody care about how he slowly progressed to the final costume he has? This isn't movies, it's comic books. Yeah, his final iconic costume's kinda dumb in real life terms, but we don't care, we just accept it because that's just how it's always been in the comics. As a matter of fact, trying to explain how he got that costume may make the whole thing seem even stupider.

And the storyline is "The Boy who Stole Supes' Cape"? The crappiness is leaking out of my screen.

PS. The artist deserves props though.

I'll skip this.
Tomontherun99 - 8/31/2012, 8:26 AM
@Redhood85 I can understand hating Liefeld as he is truly dire but Quietly? There are much, much worse artists like Jim Balent, Eric Canete, Cameron Stewart and Ed McGuinness to name but a few
JULEZ13 - 8/31/2012, 8:26 AM
The penciling is nice but the coloring has thrown me off... I don't know, its like in between realism and cartoony, gotta pick one. I'm not feeling the airbrush look.

So... this is supposed to be Superboy in Metropolis? Cuz I'm not getting Superman at all. Don't really know how to feel about this comic, these two pages didn't seem like enough to predict its outcome.

A kid stealing his cape kinda through me off a little though. Seemed a bit juvenile unless it'll lead him to a villain... which at this point I'm really hoping is the case.
lokibane2012 - 8/31/2012, 8:26 AM
@Redhood85

Jesus [frick] dude. Leave the guy alone. Even if the dude likes Liefeld's work.
marvel72 - 8/31/2012, 8:53 AM
lovely artwork,but will the story be any good.
Knightstalker - 8/31/2012, 8:58 AM
Not impressed at all. Jeans, farm boots, a t-shirt, and a cape? I wore the same thing when I was 6 years old. Then I grew up and got some real clothes
Wingding - 8/31/2012, 9:07 AM
@Just1Superguy
I wasn't judging the comic. I also wasn't judging the costume, I was stating that the costume looks retarded and a rip off of Superboy's best look (IMO). Lol :P

@lokibane2012
Thank you! I hate the costume. Why do the have to frick up Superman's origins? I thought it was fine the way it was. He didn't go through a "prototype" suit, like some Smallville bull crap. When he finally decided to be the hero everyone believed he could be, he put on then iconic suit. I just think it was poor on DC's part to make Superboy look dumb, then mess up Superman by combining their look instead just using the awesome re-imagined Superman suit Jim Lee did for JL.

Oh well. I'm still going to hope for that Man Of steel series.
docgl - 8/31/2012, 9:07 AM
They have destroyed the Superman I grew up with and have loved reading for many years. This looks dumber than dirt.
Wingding - 8/31/2012, 9:08 AM
@Just1Superguy
...Superboy's best look, MINUS the awkward blanket cape. Haha.
angus666 - 8/31/2012, 9:09 AM
@docgl I agree with that, but I Love the art, it looks really awesome.
RSDhillon - 8/31/2012, 9:28 AM
I, for one, love and accept our new DC Comics overlords!
RobLiefeldFan - 8/31/2012, 9:30 AM
@RedHood85 I understand the hate on Liefeld infact I understand all Liefeld haters but think Sir Robert Liefeld is a Master of Art, He's ability to defy Physics in the aspect of Anatomy is Breathtaking the way he exaggerates he's anatomy of the Body is Mindblowing and very wonderful to watch he also gives his characters Life with the wonderful facial expressions I consider him one of the very best at potraying emotion, humanity and passion, I oblige Rob Liefeld haters to come out and appreciate him in terms of an Artist... I as a comic-book Artist in- training think he is a very good artist and also alongside Jim Lee and Todd Mcfarlane defined a look that has been at stable for artist to follow
nhalden - 8/31/2012, 9:36 AM
For all bitching about the costume: He's a bumphuck teenaged hick from Kansas. Farm boots tee-shirt (which he probably got from Zazzle) and jeans. Makes more sense than spandex or miraculesly knowing how to make an outfit.
I will say it does look a little "Bibbo-ish"
DarthTesla - 8/31/2012, 9:37 AM
Beautiful cover/interior art.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 8/31/2012, 9:46 AM

OH MY MOTHER LORD!!!!
ALL I CAN SAY IS THANK YOU SWEET BABY JESUS THAT THIS...PERSON/THING WILL BE AWAY FROM THIS CHARACTER.

What is his fetish with animals? I mean come on...not one person finds it a little weird? Really??

"He's wrote[sic] an entertaining Superman." ENTERTAINING? compared to what? some other conglomeration of personalities that we've seen in this rookie year of 52? INAction Comics has the WORST representation of Big Blue..PERIOD...Perez tried, Jurgens should have had it down...Lobell who knows where that cats going with things...He's either an emotional hothead P**ck, an emotionless alien with zero personal skills, or J.A.S.G (Just Another Strong Guy) as in Justice League's STELLAR storylines...

All in all I hope that this comic picks up under the new creative team..and someone reigns in the awkwardness that has been developed and starts correcting it! Because, I'm sorry DC...you may be happy with the cash cow Batman is for you, but come the Eff on! It's Superman...Make him something!!!

Thus endth the lesson

Go on...Shoot...WOW....just wow.
ellispart3 - 8/31/2012, 10:04 AM
i actually dig morrison as a writer. ben oliver is phenomenal and it's great to see him on another book.

@lokibane2012 @wingding
no love for the early superman costume lol. it's honestly not bad imo. the progression of power pretty much encompasses the golden age of superman's career into a short series of stories.

@robliefeldfan
as another comic book artist, i will big ups to see another aspiring artist out there, good luck. i can't really tell if you're being sarcastic, because everything you described is the exact opposite of what he's actually produced. i would say start looking at more of their inspirations like barry windsor smith and neil adams and progress. do you have work posted anywhere?

@Tomontherun99
frank quitely and cameron stewart are some of the best storytellers in the biz, the definetly don't deserve to be in the absolute worst category.
superfan30 - 8/31/2012, 10:14 AM
the simple fact is DC has fricked him up!!! He is no longer the "Superman" we loved. I mean I don't love Superman for his powers, it's his character that matters to me. That's what makes him "Super"
SteveRogersSon - 8/31/2012, 10:15 AM
BRAVO Superfan30! BRAVO
Mechagino - 8/31/2012, 10:24 AM
@Wingding: where the hell did you read that? There are PLENTY of good superman stories to read.
Shadowelfz - 8/31/2012, 10:27 AM
There we go. See the writing there is not that bad. As long as Morrision doesn't start introducing some ridiculous time travel/parallel universe/fringe science B.S. and keeps the writing solid than he wouldnt be so bad.

But that's like asking Charlie Sheen to stay sane.
RobLiefeldFan - 8/31/2012, 10:35 AM
@ellispart I'm practicing my art but haven't had time to post on any site but I will start working on it when I finish my training my mentors/role models are Alex Ross, Ross Andru, Dave Gibbons and Jim Lee but I have to say I have a soft spot for rob liefeld I look at the positives even though the negatives are still ther
Wingding - 8/31/2012, 10:41 AM
@Mechagino
LOL. What I was saying was I haven't picked up any NEW 52 Superman titles, because I heard and read they weren't good. I also flipped through a couple and I thought they were ridiculous. I just feel like they aren't doing Superman justice IMO.
ellispart3 - 8/31/2012, 10:46 AM
@robliefeldfan
becareful with that dude, the negatives are pretty heavy. take a look at the old school badasses (amazing artists by the way, ross andru and dave gibbons) but i would still suggest looking at barry windsor smith, neil adams, dave ross, kevin nowlan, frank frazetta, and illustrators like andrew loomis. whenever you get a chance, start posting your stuff up..i'm still trying to break in but i have a site over at http://ellispart3.tumblr.com and http://ellisthree.deviantart.com. tumblr and deviantart are both free and pretty awesome.
Wingding - 8/31/2012, 10:47 AM
Of course I've read Superman stories or I wouldn't like Superman, and be batchin' about the New 52 Superman being bad.
hope420 - 8/31/2012, 10:59 AM
Superman wearing rolled up high water jeans? Awesome art just not a fan of the redneck Superman.
RobLiefeldFan - 8/31/2012, 11:14 AM
@ellispart3 just checked out barry windsor
smith out he has some amazing stuff I've been amazingly impressed
even your stuff is might impressive I would like to ask I'm having some problems do I practice from life or just try improving on my storytelling and sequential pages I just started getting training at an art studio, I have to say your work is really impressive you should print out the Downpour Comic and take it to comic conventions and you really have good facial expressions and know how to portray body language you have a style just like a chris samnee with a pint of sara pichelli

Tomontherun99 - 8/31/2012, 11:16 AM
@ellispart3 I don't think Stewart is bad as such, I was over-exaggerating a bit and was just thinking of names off the top of my head. I've just never really liked his artwork that much but yeah, there are a LOT worse artists then Stewart
SteveRogersSon - 8/31/2012, 11:29 AM
monkeyballs3

@SteveRogersSon Nah, I don't report people.

Na I wasn't saying that you were..I just didn't delete the HTML portion of the cut/paste.

There's nothing impressive about his work...random ideas and animal fetishes leave little to be desired IMHO.
ellispart3 - 8/31/2012, 11:31 AM
@tomontherunn99
no no to each his own brotha, i meant no disrespect. everyone has their own tastes. i was just commenting on their storytelling ability.

@robliefeldfan
definitely learn to draw from life. sequential art would be the next thing to learn (there's a lot of great books out there but i would recommend the one by will eisner, he has a series of them). thanks for the praise, and yea we're going to be selling downpour pretty soon actually. you can check out http://e2comics.com for more info.
YoMAMAwearsARMYboots - 8/31/2012, 11:39 AM
@SteveRogersSon no keep Morrison on Supes, he's done enough on batman.
darkmetal - 8/31/2012, 11:40 AM
Can't believe people actually like the "artwork".
I think its horrible. Starting with the cover. Terrible foreshortening on Fake Supes right leg. Its maybe a foot and a half longer than his left leg.
His arms are not anatomically correct. His triceps, biceps, shoulder muscles are just misplaced lumps. I would expect those errors from a 10 year old kid.
Its obvious that this "artist" can't draw anything. And the only parts that look presentable, hands, a some faces are merely done with Photoshop style assistance.
These are bad sketches with PC colors and some attached body parts from photos of real people.
So I have to rate it as merely a computer program job and its really very poor at that.
But I've seen very little good art from the big 2 for the past couple years which is why I check out their stuff online if I must but I won't spend a dime on something like this.
Oxbow - 8/31/2012, 11:46 AM
@robliefeldfan: in your avatar, cap's chest looks like its on hinges and it's opening towards you. That is probably the worst pic in recent comic book history! If you are being sarcastic, then bravo sir! If you are serious, consider checking out "dynamic anatomy" or a similar art book that shows how proportions and movement _should_ look on paper.

@steverogerson: have you read We3? Joe the barbarian, or all-star superman? I would be interested what you think...Ya Morrison can piss me off too but by the same token, when he gets it right, he can hit it straight out the ballpark! We3 is particularly inspired IMO...You could tell he actually had something to say there

This looks kinda dumb but I usually like grant morrison. I dont know what your guys's beef is with him.

Is that a question or a statement? I am just curious to know if I need to allocate time to go over the disparaging litany of reasons why this Hack should never be allowed into Mainstream comics writing ever again.
