Superman is back on top again, at least as far as record breaking comic book sales go. This from the L.A. Times.......

A copy of the 1938 edition of Action Comics No. 1, featuring the first appearance of Superman, sold Monday for $1.5 million on the auction website ComicConnect.com. The issue, originally sold for 10 cents, is widely considered the Holy Grail of comic books.

The same issue sold in February for $1 million, though that copy wasn't in as good condition as the issue that sold Monday. That number was bested just days later when a 1939 comic book featuring Batman's debut sold for $75,000 more at an auction in Dallas.

The buyer is described as an unknown comic book fanatic. I would say so if he's going to spend that kind of coin on a comic book.

So I guess the debate is over, Superman beats Batman.........well, at least when it comes to sales of their first ever adventures.

Not if the batman buyer had a kryptonite ring in his toolbelt.
MovieTheaterLad - 3/30/2010, 10:14 AM
I always loved Superman more than Batman.

This news makes me happy.
Bamf7 - 3/30/2010, 10:22 AM
Man, Superman could rule the world if he really wanted to, but he chooses to be a hero. That, and the fact that he inspired all the other hero comics afterwards, is why he will always be my favorite superhero.
BmanHall - 3/30/2010, 10:25 AM
No way... Bats would totally whoop Supes. Batman always has some Kryptonite on him in fear of Superman going ape shit.
brilee2 - 3/30/2010, 10:28 AM
First time poster, and im pretty sure I agree with bman.. batman would dominate =)
Bamf7 - 3/30/2010, 10:34 AM
Nah, cuz think about it...if Superman was REALLY looking to kill Batman, he could. Heat vision, telescopic vision, speed. All he would have to do is plan it when Batman didn't know it was coming. Could Batman plan out and execute Superman on his own? Absolutely. But you put them one on one, and it's Supes all the way.

That being said, I DO love Batman too...just the facts!
BmanHall - 3/30/2010, 10:37 AM
@ brilee: Right on, and Welcome. =D

it would be a dream to own the likes of these comics, the most expensive comic i own is the first elektra than probably first deadpool & first cable are next.
none of my collection will ever reach the dizzy heights of these classics.
FistsOfJustice - 3/30/2010, 11:00 AM
Bats is by far my favorite between the two, but I have to keep it real when I say that Bats is no match. Sups could fry Bats with his heat vision a gahzillion miles away.

Batman rules Superman drools
DogsOfWar - 3/30/2010, 11:14 AM

superdog - 3/30/2010, 11:19 AM
superman would win. but i dont like one more than the other. they are equally cool in my eyes for obviously completely different reasons. no need to debate. its like having a wife and a mistress, just enjoy them both for different reasons. :)
supermarioworldE - 3/30/2010, 11:27 AM
It's only fair. Action Comics#1 started the "superhero" comics genre and shot it forward.
InstigatorGIRL - 3/30/2010, 11:36 AM
lol. I have a reprint of this. Got it at a yard sale. Stupid guy tried to pass it off as the first print and was trying to sell it for 500 dollars. I ended up getting it for 5 dollars because I pointed out all the things that proved it was a reprint. lol. I WIN.
InstigatorGIRL - 3/30/2010, 11:37 AM
@Bman What happened to those pictures? LMAO ^_^ jk.
JoshWilding - 3/30/2010, 11:40 AM
Give me a copy of Avengers #1 any day over either of these! :P

OZY: Dude, why are you spamming that on every article? So you can get free points? You know stuff like that is usually a con right and I doubt people are going to be too happy with you if that site is going to give them a virus!
superdog - 3/30/2010, 11:54 AM
josh@ good point. just go buy your points like everyone else. bought some today and will be downloading my modern warfare 2 update soon.

IGIRL@ Wow, what a dumbass! Guess you owned that guy. He shouldn't have even wasted his time trying to put one over on a comic book geek. Albeit a lovely undercover geek;) F*ckin' amatuer! YOU WIN.
BmanHall - 3/30/2010, 12:04 PM
@ InstigatorGIRL: I... Uh... Hey, look in the sky! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's... *Runs away*

Haha, I kid I kid. I ended up leaving from work late and it looked like nobody had posted on the article in a while. I didn't think you'd see the pics if I posted them. XD
brilee2 - 3/30/2010, 12:11 PM
I think Bman needs to own up and post some pictures.. slacker!
verbicide - 3/30/2010, 1:08 PM
So this is why Nic Cage is perpetually broke ;)
InstigatorGIRL - 3/30/2010, 2:33 PM
@Bman LMAO. Thats funny but still excuses, excuses. You tease. lol. ;)
@Matches Luv your screen name BTW, yeah the look on his face was just epic. lol. Especially when I looked up at him and said "this isn't an original."
He looked at me and was like, "all right sunshine, I'll humor you, why do you think that?"
I laughed and said, "well for starters cupcake the orginal sold for 10 cents not a dollar..."
The comic had $1 on it in the place of the ten cents. Idjit..
Checkmate - 3/30/2010, 3:04 PM
Lol, thats SUPER expensive. I'll just stick with my first issue of The Doom Patrol.
spectre1983 - 3/30/2010, 3:13 PM
I'll take Detective #27 any day. Speaking of early editions... is it sad that I want Stan the Man to pass away in hopes of my X-Men #5 to increase in value? I thought so...
EpicMan - 3/31/2010, 9:04 AM
Ohhh snap. he said sunshine! It was on, huh? jk
Brezovsky - 4/22/2010, 6:52 PM
1)Batman already wooped superman in the comics. 2) how come joker can beat superman twice and had batman save superman's a** 3) batman is already prepared and has suits to counter superman's powers
