Kevin Smith Comments On Jasom Momoa AQUAMAN Casting For BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

Over the last few months, one of the most trusted and vocal sources about Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice news has been, interestingly, Kevin Smith. Now he weighs in on Jason Momoa's Aquaman casting.

Oddly enough, one of the most trusted (and vocal) sources for information about Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice has been filmmaker/podcaster/comicbook writer Kevin Smith. While he's not at all involved in the film's productiuon, his long standing friendship with Ben Affleck and intimate ties with Warner Brothers and DC have allowed him unprecedented access to the top-secret blockbuster.

This time, Smith speaks out about Jason Momoa's casting as Aquaman, the Atlantean and often underestimated member of the Justice League. While Smith didn't know about Momoa's casting, he does offer his opinion:

Well, I think most people of course when they think of f****** Aquaman, they think of the traditional cartoon version, but the current version or incarnation is he's a badass king of the seven seas, a warlord to some degree. So I could see where they would get away with casting this dude.

[After looking at a phoot of Momoa and Aquaman side by side] Yeah I'll buy it. Will they blonde his hair, you think? It's awesome. Think about it dude, they used to make fun of Aquaman all the time. Aquaman, he only talks to f****** fishes. F****** say that to that dude's face.

Smith has a valid point, and one that a majority of comic book fans share. While Momoa may not have been everyone's choice for the role, he does give the character a sense of badassery and intimidation that is needed to show general audiences that he's a viable and valuable character of the JLA, and one that definitely does more than just "F****** talk to fishes."

I really hope Aquaman steals the show in JL. Just like Quicksilver did in DoFP

0megaDaGod - 6/24/2014, 10:07 AM
Yea he's totally Aquaman, except he's not. But at least we're getting Aquaman

Just started watching GOT - the guys a badass. Haven't seen Conan - but he is pretty good in GOT.
BatManiac - 6/24/2014, 10:10 AM
Momoa looks just like Peter David's Aquaman, minus the blonde hair of course.

DeusExSponge - 6/24/2014, 10:11 AM

I don't have a problem with any of this. That's just me, though.

Maybe I'm just an idiot of the highest order.
MrNiklander - 6/24/2014, 10:13 AM
Kevin Smith you gotta love the guy.But Jollem has a point they asked Momoa after the announcement came and he denied it so I will wait for Comic-Con.Who knows we might the Justice League movie line up ever thought about that?
TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM - 6/24/2014, 10:13 AM
I highly doubt he'll be in the movie longer than 20 seconds. If WB is smart, they'll just tease the whole team at the end.
Jollem - 6/24/2014, 10:14 AM
@KevinSmith - tim burton says "hi"

MightOfMagneto - 6/24/2014, 10:15 AM
I don't have a problem with this casting... It's like Chris Hemsworth/Thor casting except Jason Momoa's acting is far more superior than Chris Hemsworth.
cipher - 6/24/2014, 10:15 AM
But, yeah.. this hasn't actually been confirmed yet, has it?
BatManiac - 6/24/2014, 10:15 AM
Momoa never denied anything after the announcement. He said we'll have to wait and see.
captainireland - 6/24/2014, 10:15 AM
I love that Momoa has been cast. The dude's awesome. Ronon Dex was the man!

Ha, wait.. that wasn't my phone. I actually am just hearing shit for once.

I gotta lay off the caffeine.

Jollem - 6/24/2014, 10:17 AM
@MrNiklander - well, i think he was being coy and playful in the interview. it was played so well he could or could not be? either way, the dude has a cool personality. i think he'd make a great arthur. armie hammer's still my pick, tho ;P

It's so funny how Momoa said he doesn't want to do angry characters anymore and the first project he picks is an Angry Aquaman. Lmao. Get that $$$ boy!

There be a difference between angry and scary, bro.
Doopie - 6/24/2014, 10:28 AM
people were saying the Rock would be too big for GL...this guy is pretty huge too. Will he dwarf Cavill?
JorL5150 - 6/24/2014, 10:29 AM
I'm getting pretty ok cool about it - I'd love to see AQUAMAN the way grant Morrison wrote him in JLA

Serious- mean and powerful
ThePowerCosmic - 6/24/2014, 10:29 AM
I think he was a great choice. I think a darker presentation of this character will work.

But I also don't think you need to change a character just because some if the media has made fun of him. Aquaman has always been a cool character. I like Namor better though...he's always been a badass!
Pasto - 6/24/2014, 10:31 AM
YES! I made it in before the haters!

ALegendaryPanda - 6/24/2014, 10:35 AM
He's gonna make a badass Aquaman! We're most likely gonna have to wait until JL to really see him in action but I hope his cameo is awesome.
