COMICS: Mysterious XX Teaser Is For All Female X-MEN Relaunch

The series is set to feature Storm, Rogue, Jubilee, Rachel Grey, Psylocke Kitty Pryde and more dealing with everything from the villainous Sublime to interstellar life forms and even Sentinels. Continue on for details on the new series from Brian Wood and Olivier Coipel.

According to Wood in an interview with USA Today, the series puts Jubilee in the lead but each of the femme fatales will get their chance to shine. Wood said he's using the first few issues of Grant Morrison's New X-Men run from 2001 as a template for his storytelling. Hence the use of Sublime, one of Morrison's creations. The author promises the book will also delve into the relationships, sexual encounters and love that occurs between the various X-team members. Wood says he plans to challenge the notion of female promiscuity, that is the double standard that Wolverine can sleep with as many females as he likes but if Storm or Rogue sleep with more than one man then they're labeled promiscuous.

Sounds like intriguing stuff and I'll definitely be picking up the first issue at least. The book is set to be released sometime in April.

• Wood broke on the scene in 1997 with Channel Zero and has gone on to write some notable titles including DMZ, Ultimate X-Men and Wolverine and the X-Men: Alpha & Omega (2012). Recently he relaunched Star Wars for Dark Horse Comics which sold out in only one day.

• Oliver Copiel is a French comic book artist known for his Marvel work although he got his start with DnA on Legion of Superheroes. He's provided art for Thor, X-Men, New Avengers, Avengers vs X-Men and much more.

Is Wood giving us the X-girls ... Or is the X-chicks giving us wood???
jimoakley666 - 1/14/2013, 7:35 AM
So. X-(Wo)Men? Loving Coipel's art but any book that has Jubilee should feature her next to Wolverine. Classic team up, them two. I'd love to see her as a regular in his solo book.
marvel72 - 1/14/2013, 7:36 AM

jimoakley666 - 1/14/2013, 7:37 AM
On a side note, I must admit that that is the best costume Storm has had in way too long. Probably since the original. Or at the very least the 90's white uniform.
ATrueHero1987 - 1/14/2013, 7:45 AM
Someone guessed right before saying that this was an all women X book. I think there are too many X titles(same with The Avengers). That being said, I'm going to check this out. Coipel is doing the art and it has characters I really like(Psylocke), it's a must.
GUNSMITH - 1/14/2013, 8:05 AM
IS JUBILEE A VAMPIRE MUTANT WITH SUPER FIREWORK STUFF POWERS STILL?
ATrueHero1987 - 1/14/2013, 8:08 AM
Frenzy should be on the team.
Temple - 1/14/2013, 8:10 AM
Nice, love coipels art. For a french dude, his art is very manga like.

@Sidekick I hear that, lol. It's like, thats what we have girlfriends...or porn for, haha.

@marvel72 Agreed, I'm starting to get that old x men feel back.
AlcoholicA - 1/14/2013, 8:24 AM
This should be a, uh......MAX line of comics (wink wink)

And Damn! Storm is all over the place now...

•X-Men
•Uncanny X-Force
•teaching in Wolverine & the X-Men
•XX (or whatever they are going to call this book)
ATrueHero1987 - 1/14/2013, 8:35 AM
@thenerdicon Not really. Yes, new mutants are popping up now but the # is still under 200.
Bandido - 1/14/2013, 8:37 AM
@marvel72: yeah xmen side of the universe is pretty great and this new book has my interest...and my wallet is probably gonna cry haha
Shamo - 1/14/2013, 8:40 AM
storm? tired of her.
kitty? meh.
Rachel? hell yeah.
Psylocke? been around since what? late 80's? yet i feel like i didnt really get to know her untill Uncanny X-force, so i like seeing her pop up now.
Jubilee? hell yeah.
Rogue? tired of her.
KarlRobinofEarth2 - 1/14/2013, 8:55 AM
a million teens fapping, and then, silence.
marvel72 - 1/14/2013, 9:03 AM
@ Temple

been a fan of the x-men since the claremont/john byrne era(reading my dads)& the first comic i brought was uncanny x-men 205.

over the years the x-men has had its ups & downs but i agree with you this is the best the x-men have been since whedon's astonishing x-men.
RexDartEskimoSpy - 1/14/2013, 9:19 AM
Ditch Psylocke and Jubilee, replace them with Armor and Pixie.
punkstealingluggage - 1/14/2013, 9:24 AM
1) Wasn't Jubilee depowered?
and
2) Even though i'm sure it will only be 4 or 5 issues, Coipel draws extremely attractive women (and men for that matter)

The mohawk stays...Storm has NEVER looked better
Kingcollieo08 - 1/14/2013, 10:07 AM
I love Coipel's work!! i met him in person in Orlando, swell guy. He's my fav. comic book artist. I study his art, im trying to become a comic book artist as well. But I think Storm should stick to her original hairstyle & PLEASE REPLACE KITTY PRYDE with someone else. Im tired of seeing her, I never really saw why ppl were so fascinated with ther. Replace her with X-23, or better yet Jean Grey. Hell Jean Grey & X-23 & have her & Storm lead the team, just NO Kitty.
ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 1/14/2013, 10:20 AM
xx-women

so jubilee still a vampire?
StarkAnthony - 1/14/2013, 10:29 AM
Change concepts of female promiscuity = 0 discussion on the matter, but lots of sex scenes. Not sure that helps too much, but I'm sure fanboys will like it
MatioShack - 1/14/2013, 10:31 AM
Why is Jubilee the leader when Storm's on the team? She led the X-Men for a minute after she beat Cyclops (and she didn't have powers at the time). Storm's a queen, she shouldn't be taking orders from kid.
jimoakley666 - 1/14/2013, 11:06 AM
monkeyballs3 - You're obviously too young to know why you should love the mohawk. I pity you, bud, ha ha.
whytry2hard - 1/14/2013, 11:30 AM
replace Storm with just about anyone else and I'd be happy.
DukeAcureds - 1/14/2013, 11:45 AM
Did I call it or did I call it or did I call it. All-female X-Men. Chromosones. Obvious really. Stupid too. They never had an all-male X-Men book. That would be just as stupid, if they did. But wha're you gonna d, right? Marketing people.
Shadowmaster35 - 1/14/2013, 12:28 PM
Really looking forward to this series!!
dabo - 1/14/2013, 12:33 PM
Yay for Jubilee, boo if she is still a vampire, c'mon marvel retcon that crap. If deadpool can suddenly have his healing factor back sans explanation for marvel now, then Jubilee acn be a mutant again and not a stupid vampire!
BlueDemon - 1/14/2013, 2:13 PM
Wood...that is all
KeefNCookies - 1/14/2013, 3:32 PM
I'm sick to death of most of these characters. Overused much? Had to bear with Rogue taking over X-Men Legacy, Psylocke has been jumping around multiple books, Storm has been used much lately too and what the hell haircut? Talk about taking steps backwards... Rachael Grey is the only character there I really want to read more of (and I loveee Psylocke but damn, time and place I tell you!).
KeefNCookies - 1/14/2013, 3:33 PM
oh yeah Kitty Pride hasnt been overused necesarrily (used a lot though) but I dont really care. Jubilee will be interesting to see whats good with her vampire affliction but yeah. Fail IMO
jimoakley666 - 1/14/2013, 3:40 PM
MARVELPSYCHO79 - Yeah. That was the point I was making.
redsonjustin - 1/14/2013, 3:52 PM
I think Jubilee needs to be used more.
bgharcourt - 1/14/2013, 10:48 PM
Issues with lots of sex? There will be a backlash like the one with Starfire. I find it funny that the industry definition for strong, independent woman is whore. I know its a double standard,(I don't think its right one way or the other)but you could make the same point by just having the XX team win battles and be bad ass.
