The change will go into effect on December 26th with the fifteenth isssue of Justice League. Jim Lee is reportedly stepping down to shift his attention to another DC title which will be announced at New York Comic-Con 2012.

Justice League #15 and #16 covers

Justice League #11 cover by Jim Lee (for comparison)

Writer Geoff Johns on the switch-
Johns:“There is no other choice for the next A-Star art team on JUSTICE LEAGUE. Ivan Reis and Joe Prado bring power, grace, emotion and epic storytelling worthy of the world’s greatest super heroes. From GREEN LANTERN to BLACKEST NIGHT to AQUAMAN, I couldn’t ask for better collaborators. The second year of JUSTICE LEAGUE will begin an adventurous, mysterious and heroic storyline focusing on our members as their greatest secrets are revealed...and the repercussions change the world. Ivan and Joe begin with a story they were born to draw — THRONE OF ATLANTIS — a story between JUSTICE LEAGUE and AQUAMAN that will have the League experiencing what Aquaman does — they’ll be caught between land and sea. With new relationships developing – like Wonder Woman and Superman – new members coming on – like Shazam! and the all-new Atom — and new threats rising — like Ocean Master & Atlantis — the Justice League will grow and change as we march towards the impending TRINITY WAR.”

As you can see, there isn't exactly a huge drop-off in talent here, by any stretch of the imagination. Reis has been tearing it up over on Aquaman and I'm sure he'll do the same for Justice League, which is starting to pick up steam with Issue #12.

*Tip of the hat is in order to BleedingCool who called this a while back.

Ivan Reis is a new fave of mine. The way he draws Superman makes me love the character even more. I love that he's on JL now. It means Lee can move on to Man of Steel :D
BigDamnHero - 9/12/2012, 2:50 PM
Sweet!!

Honestly these days, colorist are the make or break members of the comic book art team. They can make great pencils look horrid and horrid pencils look great.
SageMode - 9/12/2012, 3:01 PM
Even if you take away the coloring I think Reis is a better artist IMO.
GuardianAngel - 9/12/2012, 3:07 PM
I havent been following JLA but what happened to Flash?
Mechagino - 9/12/2012, 3:07 PM
Hmm... I think Lee might do a new wildcats book.
kackbratze - 9/12/2012, 3:14 PM
Nice news.

Anyway, DC seem to be pulling a Marvel and letting their heroes fight each other more often. (Baz against Justice League, now Aquaman against Justice League, then Trinity War...)
MJPETTY7 - 9/12/2012, 3:14 PM
I know what happened to Green Lantern, but where did Flash go?!?!?!
AtomicChipmunk - 9/12/2012, 3:18 PM
Aww yeah!!!!!!!!!!

Reis is a great cb artist.

ItsATrap - 9/12/2012, 3:25 PM
big fan of jim lee. that being said, i love what reis has done on Aquaman.
also find it kind of funny how aquaman is front and center in all those justice league covers
KrazyForKomix - 9/12/2012, 3:39 PM
better. now, if only Johns would stop messing around with characterization.
jimpinto24 - 9/12/2012, 3:43 PM
I'm cool with the creative change. I'll miss Jim Lee as the artist for the JL comics.
jumpingJellybeans - 9/12/2012, 3:45 PM
Art looks good, costumes look hilarious.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 9/12/2012, 3:51 PM
I'm gonna miss Lee
Wingding - 9/12/2012, 3:56 PM
This. Looks. Freaking. AWESOME!

It's perfect! Jim Lee going to do a Superman comic (one hopefully better then the crap we have from Superman in the new 52), and Ivan stepping in for him! Man, I am a lot more excited for the coming issues of JL then I was before. Plus, Shazam joining the team will hopefully be awesome. Then there's the unanswered stuff of course like, where's Flash? Why are they fighting Aquaman? What went down with the fight with Baz since he isn't with the team and Hal is still gone? AARG, I want to know! Lol.
HelaGood - 9/12/2012, 4:10 PM
waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better artist!
AtomicChipmunk - 9/12/2012, 4:20 PM
@LEVITIKUZ

There was a fight between members of the JL (a little dispute actually that went public). Green Lantern decided to take the blame and leave the JL. Also he had other duties.
Anyway, in GL#1 he was no longer a GL member (see War of the Green Lanterns/Aftermath), but Sinestro needed his help. Thaal created a ring for Hal, they fought against the Sinestro Corps, Indigo Tribe and Black Hand (Black Lantern).
The duo is now trapped in some kind of other dimension linked to the Black Lantern Corps.

Hal left the JL, then was kicked out of the GL Corps and is now MIA.
EarOne - 9/12/2012, 4:21 PM
i like Ivan Reis' art better.
KingG - 9/12/2012, 4:24 PM
I've heard of Ivan Reis, and I have seen his artwork and he's pretty good. I need to take some tips from him on drawing and all that jazz. Oh and looking foward to BILLY, havent seen him in a while.
jjk2814 - 9/12/2012, 4:27 PM
Awesome news! At least it will look better. Nothing against Jim Lee, the guy is a modern legend in my eyes, but his work on JL has been lacking. Everyone looks the same and action scenes are just confusing. Reis is a master of creating huge, complicated scenes and making them coherent.
thunderforce - 9/12/2012, 4:29 PM
Movie please .
AtomicChipmunk - 9/12/2012, 4:36 PM
@LEVITIKUZ

That would be more Wally West's job, but he has not appeared yet in the DCnU.
Hal is supposed to be the cocky arrogant guy. Wally is the one who makes jokes.

The JL don't know about the latest events regarding Hal Jordan. Only Carol Ferris is aware that he was fighting alongside Sinestro.

Baz will be in JLA, starting next year (there are two JL titles, JL and JLA).

Fastestmanalive - 9/12/2012, 4:36 PM
WOW!!! Those are beautiful, good job Ivan Reis.
HeadPool420 - 9/12/2012, 4:51 PM
Nice! I love Jim Lees art but hes done the same style of shading since he started. It works for him but I kinda get tired of seeing all the lines in his work.
MutantEquality - 9/12/2012, 4:53 PM
Amazing artist. Aquaman being dead middle though threw me off at first. Anyone think they'll actually let him lead? THAT will be different.
AraxisHT - 9/12/2012, 4:58 PM
Crap, I just subbed for Lee's art too. I'll really miss the hatch shading. The new art just doesn't feel like a comic.
Highball - 9/12/2012, 5:15 PM
Oh yes! This is great news! My favorite artist! Couldn't ask for a better replacement!
johnnymarr - 9/12/2012, 5:37 PM
I just want to know who will replace Geoff Johns... soon, I hope. ;)
Wingding - 9/12/2012, 5:50 PM
So, I would really like to know who is replacing Johns and Reis on Aquaman. They CANNOT let that series go to the crapper. Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo? They do great on Batman. Maybe. For the art I like: Doug Mahnke, Nicola Scott, Eddy Barrows ain't bad either. They just need a writer as good as Johns. Suggestions?
Fastestmanalive - 9/12/2012, 6:19 PM
@Wingding
Whoever it is they wont be as good as Johns and Reis, especially since Johns has just started building Aquaman's mythology.

I'm still hoping its not true, why would DC ruin the greatest thing they got going for them?
Fastestmanalive - 9/12/2012, 6:24 PM
@LEVITIKUZ
I hope they bring Wally back soon too, we do need a light hearted, fun loving guy on the team.

And Hal better not be gone for too long either, Hal is awesome and he does make the team more fun in a group of mostly square dudes, but I'm not so worried, Hal is too popular for DC to let him be gone for too long.
DarthTesla - 9/12/2012, 6:52 PM
[frick]. YES.

Ivan Reis is producing THE best art in DC comics right now. Aquaman has been my favorite title because of his work.
Hate to see Jim Lee go, but Ivan will tear shit up.
DCjohnny - 9/12/2012, 7:10 PM
so if the above pics are the cover of upcoming jl comic then it means captain marvel is gong to a member of jl..... cool....
PsyGuy - 9/12/2012, 7:36 PM
AWESOME!
amazing artist as well.
Definitely in the top 10 current in my opinion
Wingding - 9/12/2012, 7:37 PM
@Fastestmanalive

Well, I understand that for sure. But, it's not like we can do anything about them leaving. I just would like the next best. Anyone almost to par with them. I think Scott Snyder would be good on writing. I like Green Lantern's art as well as Earth 2's. That's why I suggested Doug and Nicola. And Earth 2's art to me looks similar to Aquaman's art right now. Obviously not as good as Ivan's, but still close. And good art nonetheless. We need to brainstorm.
Intothepoop - 9/12/2012, 8:59 PM
in my dreams I've wanted this. HELL YEAH.
JayJayCAW - 9/12/2012, 9:17 PM
love both Reis' & Lee's work, hate Lee's New 52 designs but still a great artist, cant wait for the new Justice League art work and the new "Man Of Steel" title :)
Bandido - 9/12/2012, 9:42 PM
What happened to Batman's eyes?? 0_o
Barajasster - 9/12/2012, 10:40 PM
My favorite artist by far! So glad they made this change.
