Wachowskis' JUPITER ASCENDING Delayed Until Early 2015

With less than two months before the film was originally scheduled to arrive, Warner Brothers has recently announced that Jupiter Ascending is making the jump from its intended release date of July 18th, 2014 all the way to February 6th, 2015. The reason for the delay has been confirmed by Variety to be extensive post-production work necessary to complete the over 2000 visual effects shots to satisfaction.

Dan Fellman, who is attached to the project as the domestic distribution chief, commented on the delay by saying that "With the July release date, they were just not going to make it on time. A lot of the issue for us was getting it ready for the international release, since the foreign territories need additional time."

However, the delay will not come as much of a shock to people who have been following the production, since reshoots have been occurring in Spain, as evidenced here:

Jupiter Ascending is now scheduled to arrive on February 6th, 2015.

Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis star in "Jupiter Ascending," an original science fiction epic adventure from filmmakers Lana and Andy Wachowski. Jupiter Jones (Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people's houses and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along—her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos. From the streets of Chicago to far flung galaxies whirling through space, "Jupiter Ascending" is written and directed by the Wachowskis.

This looks great. A real article instead of being lazy like some people and just putting one sentence.

Now Marvel, move GOTG up a week or two. August is too far away.

The Wrap also reported that the VFX still isn't finished.

OH WELL, I will get my TATUM fix in 22 Jump Street and Foxcatcher this year. The latter film getting a lot of good buzz due to his subtle performance (along with Ruffalo and Steve Carell's).
Reasonnnn - 6/3/2014, 9:06 PM
EDIT: Didn't notice that the VFX statement was already reported. My bad.

Can't say that I'm dissapointed, and it being moved to February says a lot about the quality of this film.

way to go, Doomy

Jollem - 6/3/2014, 9:39 PM
very much looking forward to this. it looks nuts
Pending - 6/3/2014, 9:41 PM
Most likely WB doesn't have faith in this doing well against so much competition, probably why they pushed it so far.

I was looking forward to this so much, damn.

Shots fired by Nails

Somebody bring a stretcher "The Journalist" has been hit !!!
Jcool - 6/3/2014, 9:43 PM
This is a 150 million dollar movie that was slated to open to 20 million. I think that is the reason for the movie not "we need more time for the visual effects" which seems to be the default response when they change a release date this late.
Jollem - 6/3/2014, 9:45 PM
i know. it's not a marvel studios property. just try to have an open mind

Jollem - 6/3/2014, 10:03 PM
i see no difference between this and gotg as far as the general audience is concerned
KidGoku - 6/3/2014, 10:10 PM
Well. It's officially mediocre now its in February
MrFridayNights - 6/3/2014, 10:15 PM
This shit looks like a scifi Twilight
BlackBolt72 - 6/3/2014, 10:16 PM
The movie looks very good but heard the acting was spotted. Probably the reason for all the retakes. They don't want any real competition going in February. Unless Disney paid them off. Meh
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 6/3/2014, 10:21 PM
I agree with @KidGoku.If they decided to move this to February 2015 it has to be mediocre,or terrible.February is a month with bad movies.
drunkenjunk - 6/3/2014, 10:22 PM
probably didn't want to get slaughtered this summer.
MrFridayNights - 6/3/2014, 10:27 PM

Highest opening weekend for Feb was Passion of the Christ with almost 84 million, second was this years Lego movie at 70 million. Seems like they are wanting that kind of success. This movie is the largest release in February since The Wolfman which was a flop.
Timerider84 - 6/3/2014, 11:30 PM
This is a rip off of The Terminator, cleaning lady/waitress, soldier from the future/Kyle Reese. Get out of here. Except she's gets to go to the future.
MakluIV - 6/4/2014, 12:33 AM
lol what's with Warner pushing their comicbook movies back?
LittleDanglyThing - 6/4/2014, 12:46 AM
Man, I've been looking forward to this shit since 2010.
I'm one of the few that love the Wachowski's work.
Except Cloud Atlas wtf was that
BrokenMachines - 6/4/2014, 12:48 AM
I think the wachkowskis have turned into hacks years ago.
Wilmot - 6/4/2014, 1:10 AM
Warner pussies...
BlindJustice - 6/4/2014, 1:10 AM
WB pushed a movie back???

You don't say.

MightyZeus - 6/4/2014, 1:19 AM
I think it's a smart move. Those two directors don't want to make the same mistake when they released Cloud Atlas. Cloud Atlas looked amazing from the trailers but in the end it was just a confusing mess.
BlindJustice - 6/4/2014, 1:41 AM
What other movies come out around then? I'm thinking WB is just afraid of competition and not making any money off of this movie.

Anyway, it looks really good (my wife is pretty upset about it being moved back) and hopefully this was a move due to the effects just not being polished enough.

Channing Tatum looks like he's lost some weight. Maybe he might not make such a bad Gambit after all. How tall is he again? Oh nevermind... Singer doesn't care about height... Isn't that right, Hugh?
GUNSMITH - 6/4/2014, 1:54 AM
ANYWAYS....
lightningfilms - 6/4/2014, 2:39 AM
i have friends who work at WB, they saw a screening of it on the WB lot to get reactions and most said the movie was Trash. i was told by a Ex Warner Bros Excec. that the movie is all over the place and needs so much work and right now its just trash.

i have another friend in the editing suites and a Security Guard that all said "Jupiter Ascending" was crap. So this doesnt surprise me.
ArmGunar - 6/4/2014, 3:03 AM
Just like 300: Rise of a new Empire, a year ago
