Simon Kinberg Teases Big Action Sequences In X-MEN: DOFP; More On Future Sentinels.
In the latest issue of Empire magazine, writer and producer Simon Kinberg reveals what to expect from Days of Future past in terms of action. The production Designer also gives us more info on the future sentinels. Read on for more...
When Fox labelled this as their second biggest movie after Avatar, they weren't kidding. In the latest issuse, both Kinberg and Singer tease the action sequences we are going to see in the film. Kinberg talked about the huge 3rd act battle which involves,"spaceships exploding as the surviving X-men, holed up in a monastery in Mongolia, try to stave off an assualt by the future sentinels, unstoppable, energy-draining robo-bastards" which Singer calls,"qualities of adaptability.
Amist all this there will also be a "rip-roaring humdinger of a final showdown in 1973 too, as Magneto- in many ways the film's true villain-makes a play for power." Seems like during the 3rd act the film will be jumping back and fourth between the future and the past. Empire toured the art department and they caught,"tantalising glimpses of concept drawings showing Fassbender's Magneto levitating an entire football stadium" amongst other things.
John Myhre, The production designer for the film goes on to talk about the suture sentinels, 'They're Bio-mechanical weapons, these future sentinels." John reveals more saying," they're [sentinels] able now to read a mutant's power and find a way of deflecting or using that power against them." He adds,"When they take off, and they see or hear or detect a mutant, their own job is to get there as quickly as they can and kill it." This goes in line with the leaked excerpt from the film which Colussus engages into combat with a sentinel before it adapts his powers and uses them against him..WARNING SPOILERS!"The largest mutant soldier steps up, his skin turns to STEEL. This is Peter “Colossus” Rasputin. He tries to fight the Sentinel, but– The Sentinel TRANSFORMS, its long arms turn into STEEL like Colossus, grabbing him, HAMMERING him with a massive steel fist. As Colossus falls–” It seems like the future sentinels are going to be a big problem for the mutants especially for heavy hitters like Magneto and Storm.
