Now folks, as per usual, take this rumour with a grain of salt. According to Unleash the Fanboy's source, Robert Redford's character Alexander Pierce is actually a Red Skull possessed Aleksander Lukin. This is something a lot of us have speculated ever since Robert Redford revealed that he was playing a villain, “I like the idea of playing a villain. I did that just because it’s a different thing for me to do.” This make sense since it's known that Shield in the film has been infiltrated by Hydra and the fact Cross bones is in the film going after Cap.

The last time we saw the Redskull was in the first Captain America film. He was transported somewhere else by the cosmic cube. His where abouts were unknown. If this is true it will be interesting to see if it'll be explained how he got back to earth. He was portrayed by Hugo Weaving in the first film and the actor came out in an interview and said he had no interest in returning as the character, ""I'm glad I did it. I did sign up for a number of pictures and I suppose, contractually, I would be obliged to, if they forced me to, but they wouldn't want to force someone to do it, if they didn't want to. I think I've done my dash with that sort of film. It was good to do it and try it out, but to be honest, it's not the sort of film I seek out and really am excited by." It seems like Marvel moved on and recast the role and Weaving will not be returning again if this rumour is true.

Phase two so far has been filled with some twists and turns. They have ranged from Loki 'cutting' off Thor's hand to Loki faking his own death only to turn up at the end of the film disguised as Odin in Thor: The Dark World. The biggest twist being that Killian was the man behind the creation of the Mandarin persona in Iron man 3. So what do you guys think? Could you see this happening? Leave your thoughts down below.

"After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy — the Winter Soldier. Starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Georges St-Pierre, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp and Maximiliano Hernández with Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Redford, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is directed by the team of Anthony & Joe Russo from a screenplay written by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1941. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing the film. Executive producers on the project include Alan Fine, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee. The creative production team on the film includes director of photography Trent Opaloch, production designer Peter Wenham, editors Jeffrey Ford, A.C.E. and Mary Jo Markey, A.C.E. and three time Oscar®-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is set for release on April 4, 2014."

"Robert Redford's character Alexander Pierce is actually a Red Skull possessed Aleksander Lukin. " That's fricking brilliant! That way you can bring back the Red Skull without having to bring back Hugo Weaving, or having to figure out a way to physically bring him back in the first place!
TheFirstAvenger97 - 2/11/2014, 2:43 PM
Wait, can't you just tell us?
SilenceIKillYou - 2/11/2014, 2:44 PM
Cool cool cool. I would be fine if they did that. Even though it seems kinda out there. It could just be Red Skull in another mask like he had in the first movie(That was Hugo Weavings real face).
Starkasm - 2/11/2014, 2:44 PM
Damn you @mc

SaintCrow - 2/11/2014, 2:46 PM

JoeMomma29 - 2/11/2014, 2:55 PM
HUH! You would think that Mcny is being the ultimate troll right now.............
McNyagano - 2/11/2014, 2:57 PM
What are you guys talking about? I think this could be awesome if he's the Redskull. Come on guys, Crossbones is in the film, Hydra has infiltrated Shield. the clues are there. I think this might end up being true but I will take this with a grain of salt.
Halflucan - 2/11/2014, 2:57 PM
Marvel needs to stop doing "twists" - I guess for Iron Man, the giveaway should have been "why does Aldrich Killian get a poster and the MANDARIN doesn't"
Likewise Pierce gets a poster and The Winter Soldier doesn't...

In interviews, they talked extensively about "The Mandarin" and next to nothing about Killian, they seem to be very quick to reveal the identity of The Winter Soldier

So yeah... Its a redirect, but im looking forward to it, i think the biggest mystery is what role will van camps character play? is she a love interest of cap? - but the pictures of cap and widow kissing kinda negates this
kinghulk - 2/11/2014, 2:59 PM
mcnyango- you are either telling the truth or you are trying to put us off the scent i just dont know which one lol
JoJo1982 - 2/11/2014, 3:00 PM

Lol I see what u did there

Leave McN alone! The Marvel Mafia is watching him. If he reveals something they'll kill him.

So right now he is probably just trying to mislead us... Or he is trying to tell us something and he uses another source so that he can have an excuse for the Marvel Mafia :P
nowtheresaBATman - 2/11/2014, 3:12 PM
Ironic if true. Atleast to me, since I've always imagined a young Robert Redford as the ideal Captain America.
nowtheresaBATman - 2/11/2014, 3:15 PM
Hey! Howard the Duck is a f**king classic!

"If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!!" :]
cosmicman - 2/11/2014, 3:16 PM
Hope it aint true. Sounds dumb.
cosmicman - 2/11/2014, 3:21 PM
This news doesnt even come from UF but some Avengers blog no one reads. lol.
MrNiklander - 2/11/2014, 3:25 PM
Redford aint Red Skull
Destined - 2/11/2014, 3:32 PM
It's going to be a lot twists in this movie; I'm preparing myself.
NovaCorpsFan - 2/11/2014, 3:35 PM

You know this is basically what happened in Brubaker's Winter Soldier arc, right? Aleksander Lukin had Red Skull's consciousness in his mind.
Destined - 2/11/2014, 3:37 PM
@Halflucan I hope she ends up being more. We need a solid female villain in MCU and Van Camp could handle that, especially since Sharon is so wack, her arc needs to be tweaked. I would love it.
NovaCorpsFan - 2/11/2014, 3:41 PM
I'm betting Sharon is a triple agent. Infiltrated HYDRA then S.H.I.E.L.D. but works for S.H.I.E.L.D.
Grendel1 - 2/11/2014, 3:41 PM
Isn't Toby Jones in this thing too as Arnim Zola? Sure would make sense as he put his consciousness into a robot. If they used the cube power to actually make that work I guess its possible for it to push RS into another body. The reveal may not even be the twist. Maybe this also has something to do with how Ultron gains his "consiousness".
mvnwalks421 - 2/11/2014, 3:45 PM
I certainly hope that the humor in this film is FAR less than it was in Iron Man 3
