TMNT News Round Up: August 14th, 2013
Production on TMNT has wrapped! and with it comes a bunch of news, including early details on the film's marketing, some very interesting developments regarding the titular characters' new look, as well as the appearance of an iconic female character from TMNT lore. Check it out!
Now thanks to various reports from extras on the film, we can confirm that production on the Jonathan Liebesman directed reboot has wrapped. Under the shooting title "Foursquare", the film began production back on April 4th (after a lengthy delay due to script issues) and wrapped on August 3rd.
Also out of the TMNT news pipeline are early details on Paramount's plans for the films marketing. An early report from a Brazilian news site reveals that Paramount plans to bring the marketing for the film to Brazil, with Megan Fox mind to head the campaign. Presumably, Brazil isn't the only country, outside of the U.S., they plan to visit as Brazil is said to be just one of the five "most profitable" markets for Paramount. Whether or not Megan Fox's recently announced pregnancy will be an issue is unknown.
Okay. Now on to the good stuff.
First off, sources have come forward with minor details on the Turtles' new look in the upcoming reboot. Their new look is said to be noticeably different, however, still recognizable from what has come before. A notable difference is that the new turtles are considerably more humanoid than previous incarnations. This is in line with what was described in the original script of the film (which also described a more humanoid appearance for the turtles, including a considerably taller height than usual), as well as early set reports from members of the press back in June. Of course, take this with a grain of salt for now.
Lastly, an iconic female character looks poised to make an appearance in the film.
Details on the film's plot are scarce. This lack of info has led many to speculate whether or not there are more characters featured in the film than set photos and reports have let on. Well none other than Karai looks set to make an appearance in the film.
Karai is best known for being The Shredder's second-in-command, as well as his stepdaughter in her most popular incarnations. Now, the identity of who will be portraying her in the film is still unknown. However, actress/stuntwoman Hyejin J. has been listed on IMDB as the stunt woman for character. Also, thanks to some vigilante eyes over on the Technodrome forums, a few pics of what appears to be the character on set have surfaced.
The set looks to be the same one we saw the Turtles being held captive on back in May. Whether or not this is the actual actress who will be portraying her, her stunt woman, or just lone female foot ninja unknown. Of course, take this with a grain of salt until some concrete info comes along.
NINJA TURTLES will be directed by Jonathan Liebesman ("Wrath of the Titans"), and produced by Michael Bay ("The Rock"). The script was written by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec, based on characters created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. The cast includes: Megan Fox as April O'Neil, Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Noel Fisher as Michelangelo, Danny Woodburn as Splinter, Jeremy Howard as Donatello, Pete Ploszek as Leonardo, and Will Arnett as April's cameraman. It lands in theaters June 6th, 2014.
